On Tuesday night, Columbia University president Nemat Shafik called upon the Strategic Response Group of the New York Police Department (NYPD) to clear protesters who had occupied a campus building.
The action followed New York Mayor Eric Adams‘ assertion that the protests had been “co-opted” and his warning to Columbia students to leave “before the situation escalates.” Subsequently, over 100 police officers swept the campus and arrested nonviolent student protesters for the second time in as many weeks.
The officers forcibly dragged students from Hamilton Hall, the briefly occupied building and witnesses said that the officers entered the premises with drawn guns and deployed tear gas in the raid, which resulted in at least one student’s loss of consciousness. Shafik has also requested that the NYPD maintain a presence on campus until at least May 17, two days after this year’s commencement ceremony.

The Berlin Film Festival’s parent org the Kbb, which oversees state-backed cultural events in the German capital, has posted job ads for four key executive roles ahead of the arrival of the event’s new director Tricia Tuttle in April.
They include a new Chief of Staff role which is described as a key management level position within the Berlinale leadership team.
The appointee will give close support to Tuttle, who will be Berlinale’s sole director after the ditching of the dual directorship structure tried out with departed Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian and MD Mariette Rissenbeek.
As per the ad, the Chief of Staff’s duties will include “proactive and effective selection, prioritization and control of all communication from the festival management to ensure a smooth exchange of information.”
Getting the Berlinale’s communication strategy on track will be a priority for the new management team, after a difficult 74th edition.

20th century McDonald's restaurants were the coolest. Aside from the general retro vibes and greasy french fry smell, they often possessed strangely unique features that made them feel like proper tourist destinations. When I was growing up, one of the McDonald's closest to me inexplicably had giant dinosaur statues outside; unsurprisingly, everyone in town called it "the dinosaur McDonald's." Old McDonald's (excuse the pun) are both a consumerist time capsule and a sort of nostalgic liminal space; if you don't know what I mean, check out "nonstandard mcdonald's," the Twitter account that spent years cataloging the wide variety of weird and wacky McDonald's locations that could be found in the wild.
The 1982 McDonald's in which we find Loki variant Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) in season 2 of Marvel's "Loki" is definitely a retro standout. With a glowing menu board, red and yellow wall tiles, strange McDonald's-themed decor, a lodge-like exterior,...

In a lively morning of executive shuffles, AMC Networks said Sean Sullivan, chief financial officer, will be jumping to SiriusXM in mid-October, as the satellite broadcaster announced that its CEO Jim Meyer and its CFO David Frear are both stepping down.
AMC Networks said it will appoint an interim CFO or successor prior to Sullivan’s departure.
SiriusXM said Meyer will retire on December 31 and Jennifer Witz, president, Sales, Marketing and Operations, will take the reins as chief executive.
One of Meyer’s major tasks in recent months has been negotiating to keep star host Howard Stern in the house as his contract expires at year end. At a conference last week, Meyer said he’s “optimistic” about striking a new deal with Stern, whose renewal has been a focus of Wall Street and the press for months as the deadline approaches.
“I am personally deeply engaged in conversations with Howard’s team.
