Lily Gladstone is opening up about the reaction to her Oscars loss once she went back home to the Blackfeet Nation following her busy awards season with Killers of the Flower Moon.
The actress was nominated for best actress during the March ceremony, but the Academy Award ultimately went to Emma Stone for Poor Things. However, Gladstone recently told Esquire that “nobody was upset” that she didn’t win.
The Under the Bridge star recalled her “beautiful trip home,” and how her tribe’s “whole confederacy came together for a Lily Gladstone Day. It was the biggest honor anybody could get. The confederacy decided together that they wanted to do it. It was a beautiful homecoming.”
She added, “Two thousand people showed up, from every corner of the US. It was absolutely one of the most moving things that has ever happened in my life.”

On Monday evening, Lily Gladstone expressed her gratitude for fans’ support following the 2024 Oscars.
“Feeling the love big time today, especially from Indian Country. The Killers of the Flower Moon star, who was up for best actress, was believed to be a frontrunner for the Academy Award. However, it ended up going to Emma Stone for her role in Poor Things.

Despite not winning the best lead actress category at the 2024 Oscars Sunday, Lily Gladstone says she is “feeling the love big time” following the ceremony. Gladstone was neck-and-neck throughout awards season for the honor in a race that was too close to call with Emma Stone, who eventually won the statuette for her amazing performance in Poor Things, and many expressed disappointment over her loss.
Gladstone, nominated for her starring role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, would have become the first Native American in the history of the Oscars to win the best actress award. But shed no tears for Gladstone, who is feeling much love, “especially from Indian country,” she wrote on X/Twitter. “Better believe when I was leaving the Dolby Theater and walked passed the big Oscar statue I gave that golden booty a little Coup tap,” she added.

As a celebration of a cracking year of cinema, the Academy scarcely put a foot wrong in a safe but spectacular Oscars 2024 ceremony. Our review:
Watching the Oscars live for the last few years hasn’t been without its risks. Grappling with pandemic fallout, declining viewing figures and some bizarre format experiments, the biggest night in showbiz has, for some time now, often failed to live up to its reputation.
The unmitigated disaster of the 2022 ceremony, though, seems to have given the Academy a kick up the backside. With last year successfully reducing the number of televised slaps back to the more conventional zero, the 96th awards ceremony seemingly built on the happily uneventful proof of concept to deliver a slick, confident broadcast that finally made a town full of storytellers look like they knew what they were doing.

Billie Eilish, 22, and her brother Finneas O’Connell, 26, became the youngest two-time Oscar winners with their best original song Oscar win Sunday night.
The sibling collaborators’ “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie won at the 2024 Oscars. This marks the pair’s second Oscar win in the category, as they took home the award for “No Time to Die” in 2022.
When Eilish took the stage, she burst out laughing from excitement. “I had a nightmare about this last night,” joked the pop star. She admitted that she was “not expecting” to win again, but feels “so incredibly lucky and honored.”
She continued, “I’m grateful for this song and for this movie and the way that it made me feel. And, this goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is.”
Besides thanking Barbie director and co-screenwriter Gerwig, Eilish thanked her best friend Zoe Donahue...

Lily Gladstone got teary eyed watching Scott George and the Osage Singers’ powerful performance of “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon at the 2024 Oscars.

George previously shared how special the nomination was with The Hollywood Reporter. “With Lily, it’s not surprising to me that she’s been nominated. She’s great. With us, if you really wanted to look at it, our music is probably thousands of years old. For it to be recognized maybe for the first time ever, it’s overwhelming in that sense,” the drummer, singer and composer said.

Ryan Gosling isn’t just Ken anymore.
The Oscar nominee was up for Best Supporting Actor for his turn in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” and also belted his “I’m Just Ken” ballad onstage during the 2024 Academy Awards.
Gosling, who moonlights as the Dead Man’s Bones frontman, rocked out to the Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt-penned song which became one of the many breakout anthems of the history-making blockbuster movie. Guitarist Slash from Guns N Roses accompanied Gosling for the live performance of the beloved “Barbie” track, along with fellow Ken “Barbie” actors Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and more, for a “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”-inspired musical moment.
Fellow “Barbie” song “What Was I Made For?,” written by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, was also performed during the ceremony. “What Was I Made For?” went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song.

Despite two historic strikes, shifting release schedules, and the ongoing risk of coronavirus, Hollywood had a lot to celebrate at tonight’s 96th Academy Awards. If there was a message to take away from this year’s awards season, it’s that 2023 was a very good year for movies.

Another awards season comes to an end, as the 2024 Oscars named Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer as Best Picture, beating out contenders like Killers of the Flower Moon, Barbie, and Poor Things. Nolan also won for directing, while Cillian Murphy beat out The Holdovers‘s Paul Giamatti for Lead Actor and Robert Downey Jr. received the win for Supporting Actor.
But Poor Things didn’t fare too badly, taking home four awards including a surprise win for Emma Stone, who was widely considered the underdog given Lily Gladstone’s heavily favored performance in Flower Moon. American Fiction also took home a well-deserved adapted screenplay nomination, while Anatomy of a Fall won for original screenplay.

The 2024 Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel returns as host for the fourth time, joined onstage by an all-star list of presenters.
Kimmel previously said he returned to emcee the show partly because he had a feeling a popular movie might be nominated, arguing that it’s easier to joke about something the audience has seen.
“I am sitting in a movie theater watching Barbie and thinking, ‘Well, maybe I’ll do this again, because at least I have a point of reference with everyone,’” he said.
He said he also felt that with Top Gun: Maverick, which landed six Oscar nominations, including a nod for best picture, at the 2023 Oscars: “I knew there was a movie that people had seen, and it just makes the job easier.”
Oscars executive producer Molly McNearney echoed this appreciation for...

Hollywood’s award season will finally come to an end with the 96th Oscars being presented at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, on Sunday, March 10. With fans expecting Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer to be the night’s big winner, other films and artists are also waiting in line for their surprises.
Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer (2023)
However, while Cillian Murphy’s film was appreciated by the Academy Awards committee, the actor got shockingly sidelined from the list of presenters. As the Oscars released their official list of award presenters for the night, they overlooked big A-listers Murphy, Kate Winslet, and more.

The songs in the running for the 2024 Best Original Song Oscar are “It Never Went Away” (“American Symphony”), “I’m Just Ken” (“Barbie”), “What Was I Made For?” (“Barbie”), “The Fire Inside” (“Flamin’ Hot”), and “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” (“Killers of the Flower Moon”). Our current odds show that “What Was I Made For?” (31/10)) is favored to win, followed in order by “I’m Just Ken” (37/10), “It Never Went Away” (9/2), “The Fire Inside” (9/2), and “Wahzhazhe” (9/2).
This year’s roster of eight individual songwriters includes two pairs of former winners, each of which is associated with a “Barbie” song. Those who prevailed most recently are sibling duo Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, whose bid for “What Was I Made For?” comes two years after they took the gold for the title tune from the “James Bond” movie “No Time to Die” (2022). They are now set to battle “I’m...

Indigenous stories aren’t always told with the care, nuance and authenticity they deserve in Hollywood, and, more often than not, their stories aren’t told at all.
While “Killers of the Flower Moon” has certainly prompted discourse within indigenous communities about who should tell what stories, the Osage Nation Congress has unanimously endorsed the creative contributions that Lily Gladstone and Scott George made to the film. The tribal governing body recently passed bills expressing support for their roles in Martin Scorsese’s historical epic. Signed by all 12 members of the legislative branch, the bills became law on Feb. 2.
Scorsese’s film is based on the murdering spree that targeted Oklahoma’s Osage Nation in the early 20th century, which was executed with the intention of stealing the community’s oil wealth. Gladstone and George are nominated for Academy Awards for best actress and best original song, respectively. Starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio,...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed audiences will be treated to a live performance of “I’m Just Ken” by Barbie‘s top Ken, Ryan Gosling, during the 2024 Oscars. While Greta Gerwig was snubbed in the Best Director category and the film’s titular Barbie, Margot Robbie, wasn’t recognized with a nomination, Gosling and America Ferrera did earn acting nominations. Altogether, box office superstar Barbie picked up eight nominations, two of which came in the Best Original Song category.
Jon Batiste, Becky G, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, and Scott George and the Osage Singers will also take the stage and perform the 96th Oscars original songs nominees. The Academy released the following list of songs and performers:

Oscar-nominated artisans landed historical firsts in numerous categories in this year’s race. After decades in the industry, costume designer Ellen Mirojnick earned her first nod for “Oppenheimer.” Scott George became the first Osage Nation songwriter to be nominated for his song in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” while Diane Warren scored a record 15th nod. John Williams bested his record-breaking achievement when he was recognized for original score.
When they’re not making history, what makes these artisans special is their storytelling through their craft. Building worlds and environments with rich, lush textures to immerse audiences into their scapes.
Here, Variety takes a look at the nominated artisans across all the crafts ahead of the guild awards and Oscars on March 10.

Women dominate the category, snagging all five slots. Ellen Mirojnick nabbed her first costume design nomination for “Oppenheimer.” With credits that include “Basic Instinct,” “Showgirls” and “Bridgerton,...

The Oscar-nominated song “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” by Scott George has a deep meaning. The lyrics, sung in Osage, invite listeners to stand up, be tall and be proud. “We’re still here after all of that,” George says.
What George is referring to is the true story of the Osage murders and tragedy that is the basis of Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated film “Killers of the Flower Moon.” George made history when he became the first Osage writer to be nominated for an Academy Award, finding himself being recognized alongside Billie Eilish, Mark Ronson, Diane Warren and Jon Batiste in the original song category.
George knew the “Moon” story when he received the call to write a song for the film. “Some of my relatives were involved in it, and it was difficult to watch,” he admits. But the story was an important one that needed to be told.

Joining me in the Apple Original Films portion of Deadline’s Contenders Film: The Nominees were several Oscar nominees for Martin Scorsese’s epic Western Killers of the Flower Moon, and since the film has been nominated for a whopping 10 Academy Awards it was a good cross-section of artisans who made this very big film come to life.
The panelists included cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, production designer Jack Fisk, set decorator Adam Willis, producer Daniel Lupi and Original Song nominee for “Wahzhazhe ( A Song for My People)” Scott George.
Lupi, a multiple past Oscar nominee, was tasked with helping bring the production the kind of authenticity that can only happen if it is shot where the true story really happened. “When I got involved, the film was always going to be shot in the Osage Nation. There was never a doubt that that’s where we were going to go,” he said.
