She was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2018 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to the Arts and People with Disabilities. She was the first woman with Down syndrome to receive an MBE.
Sarah is one of the principal dancers for Culture Device Dance Project, an experimental dance company for professional dancers with Down's Syndrome. She's performed in Germany, Macedonia, UK and Ireland.
In 2013 Sarah became Mencap's first celebrity ambassador with a learning disability. She has worked with Mencap since 2010 to raise awareness and campaign for fairness and inclusion.
Sarah has given talks in schools and gave a talk called "Escape from labels. Be free, be different" at TedX in Hackney, London.
In 2018 Sarah Gordy received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Nottingham, becoming the first person with Down syndrome to be awarded an honorary degree by a British university.
