Inducted into the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 1999 (inaugural class).
At the age of 54, he became the oldest jockey to win the Kentucky Derby.
Won: Kentucky Derby: 1955, 1959, 1965, 1986
Inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1958.
Led all American jockeys in wins five times: 1950, 1953, 1954, 1958, 1959.
Inducted in the United States' National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1958.
