Speculation is mounting that Holden has brought an end to its historic relationship with ad agency McCann.
The iconic carmaker, known globally as General Motors, has awarded all of its Australian business to Melbourne-based indie Ajf Partnership after an advertising review that began in October, according to rumours circulating the industry.
To date, Holden has been handing its advertising work to roster agencies, which also includes Melbourne-based agency The Bridge, on a campaign by campaign basis.
A final decision has yet to be announced, and Holden declined to comment on which agencies had made the shortlist of the review.
Ajf – which is already on the roster – and McCann both said that they had not heard a final decision from Holden. Mumbrella understands that other agencies involved in the pitch have learned they were unsuccessful.

Holden’s new marketing chief Philip Brook
John Elsworth, the sales and marketing honcho at Holden, has switched to rival Hyundai, taking on the role of chief operating officer.
The move sees Holden replace Elsworth with the company’s head of sales Philip Brook.
Holden said in a statement: “Effective immediately, John will be replaced in his sales and marketing responsibilities by Philip Brook, currently director of sales. Phil brings a great wealth of experience to the job having spent over two decades in leadership roles throughout the Australian automotive Industry.”
Elsworth’s role at the Korean carmaker been defined as chief operating officer, overseeing sales, marketing and aftersales. The current marketing director of Hyundai Australia is Oliver Mann, who has been with the company for a seven-year spell. He will report into to Elsworth.
Hyundai’s ad agency is the globally aligned network Innocean.
