Jimi Hendrix famously covered Bob Dylan’s song “All Along the Watchtower” and spoke openly about how much he admired the other musician. Despite this, Hendrix said he didn’t take any inspiration from Dylan’s music. He explained why he felt this way despite holding Dylan in such high regard.

In 1968, Hendrix began to record a cover of Dylan’s song “All Along the Watchtower.” He had previously covered “Like a Rolling Stone,” but “All Along the Watchtower” would become his most well-known Dylan cover. Dylan’s manager, Albert Grossman, provided other artists with Dylan tapes to encourage them to cover the songs.
Dylan liked the cover so much that he amended his version of the song to sound more like Hendrix’s. He explained that after Hendrix’s death, the song felt like a tribute to him.

Post-apocalyptic zombie movies are ten-a-penny these days, it often seem like we get a new one every month, thankfully The Rezort (also known as Generation Z) gives us a new spin on the familiar story… Following a near-apocalyptic zombie outbreak, humans are once again in control. If an occasional rogue zombie finds its way into everyday life, it is quickly disposed of by the authorities. In this day and age, people know how to handle “Zee’s”, so much so that it has become big business to hunt the undead.
The latest craze is the Zafari. Part blood sport, part therapeutic revenge following the losses suffered during the outbreak, the zombie safari is a chance to shoot and kill the un-dead out in the wild on an island resort.

In the aftermath of a brutal war between the living dead and the strictly living, a zombie safari offers a unique type of therapy and closure for traumatized survivors, but as our exclusive clip from the new horror film The ReZort shows, a new battle may just be beginning within the shores of the eerie island attraction.
Today, Content Media released The ReZort on digital platforms in the Us, and as a special treat for Daily Dead readers, they provided us with the exclusive clip below. (Fear The Walking Dead fans will especially want to keep an eye out for Dougray Scott as Archer.)

The Rezort feels like a Saturday Night SyFy Special with actual funding, which is a compliment in my book. As most good zombie flicks do, horror is used as a means for social commentary. Kills and gore chew through fleshy characters, but writer Paul Gerstenberger’s survival scenario speaks to human instincts through genre exploitation. You’ll get an open-world safari element that’s all about hunting preserved dead-heads, along with powerful quips meant to explore dealings with grief, guilt and post-war desensitization. It’s nothing Earth-shattering, but director Steve Barker’s zom-dram is vicious enough to support astute observations about zombies and humans being equally despicable creatures. Even with a cheesy “Z” title insertion.
In a post-outbreak world where almost 2 billion people were killed, containment is key. When citizens turned into zombies, a war broke out, but somehow man won. Now, with airtight regulations in place, zombies are a...

Depending on how you look at it, director Steve Barker's The Rezort can be deemed pretty cool or somewhat disappointing, but I'm here to tell you that it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. Being a huge fan of Barker's Nazi zombie flick Outpost and its sequel Outpost: Black Sun, I had high hopes for this one, and I wasn’t let down...too much.
The Rezort has a very promising premise, but it’s never used to its full potential, and the film quickly devolves into your run-of-the-mill – albeit hugely entertaining - zombie/action thriller.

I've always said that there simply aren't enough zombie movies in this world. It's such an untapped sub-genre, which is why it's always so exciting when someone comes along and decides to make a movie about those undead biters who just don't get enough love here in the horror genre.
Okay, so I'm of course being completely sarcastic, but if zombies are your thing and you can't get enough of them, read on for details about a new film that looks to put the bite back into Romero's creations!
Per Screen Daily, principal photography has just begun on the zombie thriller Generation Z with an attached cast that includes Dougray Scott (pictured), Jessica de Gouw, Martin McCann, Claire Goose, Jassa Ahluwalia, and Elen Rhys.

Matador Pictures, Captain Starlight Company and Umedia have announced that pre-production has commenced on feature film Zafari, shooting on location in the UK and Spain from July 2014. Casting is still to be announced, however the film comes from writer Paul Gerstenberger (All Stars) and is helmed by Outpost 1 and II director Steve Barker (pictured above).
Zafari is a slick and contemporary cutting edge story of survival in a post-apocalyptic world. Following a major zombie outbreak, humans once again have the upper hand and life has returned to relative normality with only an occasional reminder of recent horrific events. A rogue zombie or two might find their way into everyday life but they are quickly ‘disposed’ of by the authorities.
That is, all except the ones at Zafari – a zombie safari park where people can pay to go out to hunt and shoot the undead. It is the ultimate blood-sport experience.

Back in February, we introduced you to a film called Zombie Safari. Produced by Mark Burman, the film took its cue from Jurassic Park and concerned a post-apocalyptic theme park where people can kill zombies. However, when the power goes down, all hell breaks loose. Now, it appears that film - if it ever gets off of the ground - has a bit of competition in Zafari. Zafari is spearheaded by a completely different set of producers and was written by Paul Gerstenberger. Steve Barker, of the Outpost series, is set to direct, says Screen Daily.

A movie about Nazi zombies – why am I not more excited? The Outpost franchise started some years ago with a Ray Stevenson led action thriller about German WWII bastards looking for that war defining game-changer – but this isn’t Call of Duty. Outpost was fun, don’t get me wrong, but we’re now three films into a franchise that most horror fans didn’t even know existed, and that’s the disheartening vibe our most recent film embodies. Doing nothing to expand upon the idea of shambling undead German soldiers, Outpost: Rise Of The Spetsnaz re-introduces the idea of Nazi zombies and does absolutely nothing worth noting. More tired franchise ideas and generic genre play with a dash of gooey, gory distractions – did you expect anything else?
During battle, a group of Russian Spetsnaz soldiers are taken captive by German forces looking to test their new breed of soldier.

As we often do, especially when dealing with Part 3s that originate from outside of North America, we'll open with a recap. Outpost (2007) gave us some modern-day mercenaries who stumble across an undead creature that's been waiting for victims since WWII. Outpost 2: Black Sun (2012) focused on a platoon of Nato experts who respond to the previous carnage -- which leads to even more carnage. The second chapter gave us a few glimpses of the WWII origins of the Nazi Zombie Stormtrooper Monsters...
... but it's Outpost 3: Rise of the Spetsnaz (2014) that takes us back to 1945 and offers a fitfully amusing prequel to this progressively sillier indie horror franchise. As a horror junkie who sort of enjoyed the first two Outpost flicks, even I'll have to admit that Part 3 is probably the weakest of the lot, but screenwriter Rae Brunton, who co-wrote the previous chapters, has just enough ideas to...

You may have overlooked the 2008 Scottish offering known as Outpost, but seeing as it played multiple genre-friendly film festivals, stars Ray Stevenson, and earned some decent praise from the horror press (myself included), I'm going to assume that FEARnet readers have seen it by now. (It's about a group of soldiers who discover a nasty old Nazi experiment and do not live to regret it.) Those who enjoyed that flick will be pleased to know that not only is there an Outpost 2 available now, but there will soon be a third chapter. For the sake of this review, we'll focus on Steve Barker's Outpost: Black Sun.
Right off the bat I'm tempted to give Outpost: Black Sun a break because of one simple reason: it offers a potentially ridiculous premise, but it does so with a grim tone and an admirably straight face. A sequel that deals with "Nazi...

You probably don’t remember Outpost from a few years back and there isn’t really any reason why you should. It was the very definition of average and told the tale of a gang of mercenary’s in a war-torn European country coming up against undead hordes of Nazis.
Despite the premise and the popularity of Nazi Zombies (probably because we get to kill them again) the film never came alive the way it should have done and was overshadowed by the much better Dead Snow around the same time. So understandably hopes were not high for a straight to DVD sequel to a film that was average at best and got a limited release in the first place. Even more ominous was the fact that the film has retained the original writer and director Steve Barker. Surprisingly Outpost: Black Sun manages to be a far better film than...

Premiering at Film4’s FrightFest festival on 25th August, we’ve been given three copies of Nazi zombie film Outpost II: Black Sun to give away on Blu-ray for the release on 27th August.
Following on from the original Nazi Zombie movie Outpost, Director and Writer Steve Barker and Rae Brunton return to resurrect the un-dead Nazi army from their bunkers once more as they attempt to dominate and paint/splatter the world red.
Outpost II: Black Sun follows investigative Lena (Catherine Steadman, Salmon Fishing In Yemen, The Inbetweeners) on a trail to find notorious war-criminal Klausener, a German scientist who in the closing stages of WW2 was working on a frightening new technology with the power to create an immortal Nazi Army. Her trail leads her to a war zone in Eastern Europe where a Nato task force has been deployed to stop the merciless and brutal killings from an unknown sinister enemy.

I can't lie, I never got around to checking out Steve Barker's Outpost, but after getting a look at the brand new trailer for the follow up (which has been sitting in limbo for some time now), Outpost II: Black Sun, I can guarantee I'll be seeking this one out immediately: The sequel looks absolutely vicious! Barker returns to write (alongside of Rae Brunton) and direct this immediate follow up, which features the talents of thespians Richard Coyle (Grabbers), Clive Russell (Sherlock Holmes), Michael Byrne (Braveheart), Catherine Steadman (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) and Paul Birchard (The Dark Knight).

Richard Coyle is currently the hardest working actor in the UK. The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time star has made four movies back-to-back beginning with the Madonna directed two-tiered time shift romance W.E. , rumored to be opening the Venice Film Festival. Then came the monster movie comedy Grabbers , and now he's just completed the British Pusher remake playing the central drug-dealer character trying to escape East End London gangsters. Between Grabbers and Pushers he starred in Steve Barker's Outpost: Black Sun , the sequel to the same director's 2008 Outpost . "There were three things I always wanted to do when I was a kid," says Coyle from the Pusher set. "Play a spaceman, make a zombie movie, and kill some Nazis. So far no...
