In preparation for the release of the "Godzilla" reboot this summer, the Smithsonian's Air & Space magazine wondered: How would the U.S. military respond to a real-life attack by the lizard monster?
It turns out that at least a couple members of the U.S. Air Force have thought about just such a scenario, though how serious they are about the execution of their defense plans is up for debate. Air & Space asked Senior Airman Mark Hermann and Master Sgt. Jason Edwards, stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, for their thoughts on a hypothetical Godzilla invasion, and both had some pretty inspired responses.
Hermann took the bit slightly more seriously than Edwards, speculating that the base would need all its F-15 planes and at least 600 rounds of ammunition per person to take down the beast. Godzilla's atomic breath would be a concern for troops, Hermann said, but if...

This may be pure hype, but I have to say it brings a smile to my face to see the U.S. Air Force brush off a giant monster attack like it's nothing. Don't mess with the Us military. In promotion of the new Godzilla, the Air & Space Magazine reached out to the Usaf to ask them realistically about how they could handle/if they could handle an attack from the infamous giant radioactive lizard monster. The calm, cool responses from one Master Sergeant Jason Edwards of the Usaf 18th Wing at Kadena Air Base are genius. The 18th Wing is the special mission group actually seen in the Godzilla movie, and it opens with their introduction. Here's the full segment with clips from a couple of Us Air Force reps addressing a potential Godzilla attack: Thank you to AirSpaceMag.com for researching this and conducting the interviews - nice work!

Despite not being nominated for Best Director, Louise Archambault’s Gabrielle managed to pull off what we thought was the impossible (our Leora Heilbronn has pegged the drama as the film that should win, but favored Denis Villeneuve’s Enemy as the best bet) winning Best Motion Picture at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards (a.k.a Canadian Oscars). If the out of synch supposed “live” telecast wasn’t bad enough (all awards including the winning film were announced almost one hour prior to on twittersphere), the show’s producers gave Gabrielle winning producers Luc Déry and Kim McCraw the equivalent of end of toilette paper roll in terms of time.
The voters also choose Gabrielle‘s Gabrielle Marion-Rivard as Best Actress in a Leading Role, while the heavily favored Enemy grabbed five awards, Best Direction for Villeneuve, Best Original Score for the excellent Danny Bensi/Saunder Jurriaans pairing , Best Editing,...

Publisher Phil Kim, FM magazine editor Jessie Lilley, editor-in-chief Michael Heisler, and a host of staff members begin their day before 7:00 a.m. to make the final preparations for the first time convention of the new FM. They are all aware that they have high expectations to meet. A large and successful horror convention had been held in Indianapolis in March, and they will be compared to a wide variety of horror-related conventions held around the country, as well as being judged against memories of previous Famous Monsters conventions in past decades by earlier owners of the famous name.
