In the eulogy at his brother's funeral, he stated Joe had everything "except the right woman to share his life with", a remark seen by many as proof the DiMaggio family disapproved of Joe's second wife, Marilyn Monroe.

Brothers, Joe DiMaggio, Vince DiMaggio and Dom DiMaggio, went on to play center field in the major leagues. It was said Joe was the best hitter, Dom had the best arm, and Vince, who had aspirations to become an opera singer, had the best voice.
Father of Dominic DiMaggio Jr. of Atkinson, New Hampshire; Peter DiMaggio of Westford, Massachusetts; and Emily DiMaggio of Wayland, Massachusetts. He is survived by six grandchildren.
