FBI True docuseries not only offers a unique perspective of how FBI agents solve true crime cases, but it has also become a connective gateway for the law enforcement community that producers hope to continue to nurture.
From executive producers Craig Turk’s Thinking Hat Productions, Anne Beagan’s Anne Beagan Productions, and Shawn Efran’s Efran Films Canada, FBI True peels back the layers of notorious and gritty cases from the eyes and hearts of the agents who worked them.
Through interviews and features on the show, the series has spun a community of connectivity that was a happy surprise for producers.
“One thousand percent with the agent community itself and beyond,” Beagan told Showbiz Cheat Sheet about how the series is connecting agents.

Yellowstone is set to make its broadcast debut as part of CBS’ fall schedule, which now includes a slew of reality series as well as a number of Paramount+ series such as Seal Team and the original UK incarnation of Ghosts.
The launch of Taylor Sheridan’s Kevin Costner-fronted drama, which is coming to an end with its fifth season, as revealed by Deadline, on Paramount Network, is the headline of CBS’ reworked schedule, which has been impacted by both the writers strike and, now, actors strike.
It’s not entirely clear how CBS managed to find a way for the Montana-set series, which streams on Peacock, to air on its network, but insiders said that given it comes from sister company MTV Entertainment Studios, which produces with 101 Studios, it was able to be worked out.

Dick Wolf’s vision for FBI as a franchise continues to come together with a potential third series on CBS.
I hear the network is eying FBI: International (working title), which would focus on the FBI’s international operations. The project, which is still in the dealmaking stages, is being written by one of the top showrunners in the Wolf universe, Derek Haas, who is expected to serve as showrunner. CBS declined comment.
Haas would executive produce the series with Wolf Entertainment’s Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Arthur Forney. Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, produces in association with Wolf Entertainment and CBS Studios.
FBI: International joins two other offshoots of formidable CBS procedural franchises targeted for next season, NCIS: Hawaii, a spinoff, and CSI: Vegas, a revival featuring original and new cast members, led by William Petersen and Jorja Fox.

John McCain will be the subject of an upcoming biopic about his life and decades-long career in politics. Stampede Ventures has optioned rights to “The Luckiest Man: Life With John McCain,” a biography written by the late Arizona senator’s political adviser and friend Mark Salter, and plans to adapt it into a feature film.
Salter is co-writing the script with television producer Craig Turk. The film is being made with support from McCain’s family. His widow, Cindy McCain, will serve as an executive producer.
“John’s story is one of incredible heroism, of serving causes greater than his own self-interest,” Cindy McCain said in a statement. “There is no better time to tell it. I’m excited to share his life and legacy, and know this film will be a tremendous inspiration to people all over the world.”

At a moment when the difference in values between Senator John McCain and outgoing President Donald Trump could not be in sharper contrast, Stampede Ventures plans to turn the Arizona Senator’s sprawling life story into a feature film. They optioned rights to three books by McCain biographer Mark Salter: The Luckiest Man: Life With John McCain, Faith of My Fathers and Worth the Fighting For. Salter will write the script with Craig Turk, whose credits include FBI, The Good Wife and The Code and who served as Chief Legal Counsel to McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign. The film project has the support of the late Senator’s widow Cindy McCain — she will be exec producer — and the McCain family. Led by former Warner Bros production chief Greg Silverman, Stampede Ventures optioned the books and will finance development of the script.

There has been a change at the top of CBS’ “FBI” spinoff.
The network has tapped “Friday Night Lights” alumnus David Hudgins as the showrunner for the upcoming second season of “FBI: Most Wanted,” Variety has confirmed. Hudgins has also signed an overall deal with the show’s producer Universal Television.
He takes over from René Balcer who ran the first season of “Most Wanted,” which ended in May.
News of the change doesn’t come as a great surprise, given that the original “FBI” has bounced between multiple showrunners through its two seasons so far. Back in Oct. 2018, Rick Eid and Derek Haas took over to split showrunning duties, following the exit of Greg Plageman. Plageman himself took over as showrunner after original showrunner and series co-creator Craig Turk left the series in July of that year.

Dick Wolf has always envisioned FBI as a franchise and pitched the original series to CBS that way from the start.
The success of the original series and FBI: Most Wanted has increased chatter of a second spinoff.
CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl didn’t dampen these hopes in an interview with Deadline. “We are always talking to Dick [Wolf] and Dick is always bouncing ideas off of us and I can’t rule anything out,” he said.
There were suggestions that Wolf, who co-created mothership FBI with Craig Turk, would launch another spinoff in the upcoming broadcast season, having focused on launching FBI: Most Wanted, created by René Balcer, this season. Both shows were renewed for new seasons earlier this month.
Wolf, who is behind the formidable Law & Order and Chicago franchises, hinted at this year’s winter TCA that the franchise offers an “endless trove of stories”.

Only one Big 4 broadcast series actually grew its TV ratings from the first week of the 2019-20 television season to the second. Congratulations to CBS drama “FBI” — at least one branch of the federal government is actually improving these days.
Counting a week of delayed viewing, the CBS procedural grew from a 1.56 premiere-week rating in the important adults 18-49 demographic to a 1.58 on the following Tuesday night, according to Nielsen. That represents an enormous increase of — wait for it — 1.2821%.

And that's a wrap.
The Code, which just concluded its freshman season on CBS, has been canceled.
The midseason hiatus should have been a clue, but darn it, we enjoyed that!
The Code was a unique take on the military and the law, offering fans of both genres something to dig into.
It followed some of the greatest military's brightest legal minds while they practiced law and also highlighted their personal lives.
The marines were trained to fight on all sides of the law -- as investigators, prosecutors and defense attorneys.
Dana Delaney took to Twitter this afternoon to share her farewell.
Thank you to all you wonderful people who watched @TheCodeCBS. Last night was our finale and sadly, no more. I’ll never make General. But I loved this cast of stellar actors & know we’ll meet again. Semper Fidelis.

Years ago, Jag was cancelled by NBC after one season, but then CBS picked it up, and it ran for an additional nine seasons, before ending in 2005. The Tiffany Network's NCIS franchise spun off from Jag and is still serving them well. Now they're trying a different take on the format with The Code TV show. Can it too pass muster with the CBS audience and Nielsen households? Will The Code be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A CBS military legal drama from creators Craig Sweeny and Craig Turk, The Code stars Luke Mitchell, Anna Wood, Ato Essandoh, Phillipa Soo, Dana Delany, and Raffi Barsoumian. The story unfolds at the Judge Advocate General Headquarters in Quantico, Virginia and centers on the prosecutors, defense lawyers, and investigators who work on the legal challenges facing the U.S. Marine Corps.

CBS’s latest procedural stays in what’s become the network’s very particular comfort zone: The world of military court. In the wake of the naval-justice franchise “NCIS” (itself a spinoff of long-ago CBS standby “Jag”), the network perhaps most closely adherent to formula has put together “The Code,” a deeply familiar-feeling product.
On “The Code,” lawyers within the Marine Corps take on cases — giddily trading off, from case to case and episode to episode — the roles of prosecutor and defender. This structure tends to give their work a fairly airless quality: Perhaps more like real lawyers than TV is used to depicting, these attorneys are motivated more by the desire to close out cases quickly and efficiently than by passionate advocacy for their clients. One episode sees a sentencing request agreed upon by “prosecutor” and “defender” over beers; they clink bottles after agreeing they’ll ask the judge for eight years.

Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki, stars of CBS drama FBI, have called the recent government shutdown “disappointing” but added it showed how the Federal Bureau of Investigation doesn’t stop at anything to protect the country. They also weighed in on the fact the show has already been picked up for a second season and is getting a spinoff.
Speaking on Day 2 of TCA, Zaki said, “It’s an ode to the fact that we’re living in a time where the reputation of the [FBI] is [impacted] politically but it comes down to a group of people who won’t stop for anything, whether it’s money, politics to go in and save this country and that’s why it’s so exciting to try and represent them in the best way possible.”
