The Incredible Jessica James is a marvel to watch -- at a sharp 85 minutes, it breezes by as if on a cloud. It premiered on Netflix last week, and tells the story of its leading character named, you guessed it! Jessica James (Jessica Williams). Living flat broke in "deep, deep" Bushwick, she is harping over the recent break-up of her and her ex (Lakeith Stanfield), all the while struggling to get one of her plays produced on Broadway.
When given the chance to go on a blind date with an app creator (Chris O'Dowd), Jessica soon finds herself questioning herself, her potential as a writer, and what it means to be a 20-something living in contemporary New York City. If that plot sounds generic, well, it is. But what makes the film truly soar is its star, Jessica Williams. ...

"You really have to drive your own train and you have to keep it running." Yes indeed. Meet Jim Strouse. Also known as James C. Strouse. Jim is a filmmaker originally from Indiana, who now lives in New York City. If you don't recognize his name, hopefully you will recognize his films - Grace Is Gone (in 2007), The Winning Season (in 2009), People Places Things (in 2015), and now this year he has brought us The Incredible Jessica James. Jessica James stars the talented Jessica Williams as Jessica James in an optimistic, engaging story of a struggling playwright in New York. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, like every film Jim has made, and is being released by Netflix - it's available to watch now. I caught up with Jim at the Sundance Film Festival this year for a chat, and I'm happy to finally present our interview in full.

Jessica Williams: Why She Quit ‘The Daily Show’ and Bet Her Career On ‘The Incredible Jessica James’
Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future.
When long-time “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart announced his intention to leave his popular Comedy Central program in February 2015, Jessica Williams received plenty of buzz as a potential replacement that could lead the show into the next era of smart, amusing reporting. Williams, however, had different ideas.
Just weeks earlier, the budding actress and comedian had been bouncing around the Sundance Film Festival, happily hawking her first big movie role in James Strouse’s “People Places Things.” That happiness was definitely earned, because Williams’ work in the film — as a super-smart art student who plays matchmaker for her recently divorced teacher (Jemaine Clement) and her single mother (Regina Hall) — proved that her comedic chops could translate to an entirely new medium.

To be fair, it’s difficult not to be outshone by Jessica Williams, whose star has been continually on the rise since her debut on The Daily Show in 2012. It’s interesting, then, that this irrepressible personality would have her first starring film role project be as low-key as The Incredible Jessica James, especially since it seems to have been written just for her. Writer-director Jim Strouse (People Places Things) nails the trendsetting speech patterns and whip-smart witticisms familiar to listeners of Williams’ podcast with fellow comedian Phoebe Robinson, 2 Dope Queens, and writes Williams as a confident, charismatic young woman who rocks the hell out of a jumpsuit and who’s incapable of living on anyone’s terms but her own. Compared to her, the rest of the film can’t help but feel slight.

Jessica Williams is best known for her time as a correspondent on The Daily Show, but she makes her starring turn in the Netflix film The Incredible Jessica James. The dramedy stars Williams as a Brooklyn playwright who is recovering from personal and professional rejection.
Williams describes her character as dynamic, honest and complicated. "Oftentimes as women and women of color, we are put as supporting characters in other people's narratives," she explains. "With Jessica James, she is the star of her own narrative."

"Jessica - I really like you." "Of course you do! Everybody does. I'm friggin dope!" Netflix has debuted the full-length trailer for The Incredible Jessica James, the latest film from talented indie filmmaker Jim Strouse (of Grace Is Gone, The Winning Season, People Places Things - all three are great films). This upbeat indie comedy stars Jessica Williams from "The Daily Show" in a major breakout role as Jessica James, an aspiring playwright living in New York City struggling with the dating scene and the career scene. She meets a goofball guy that she slowly starts to fall for, played by Chris O'Dowd. Also starring Lakeith Stanfield, Noël Wells, Megan Ketch, and Zabryna Guevara. I saw this film at its Sundance premiere and it's wonderful, not only a fantastic performance from Jessica Williams, but an optimistic, light-hearted, enjoyable film to put you in a good mood. Just see it. Swipe Right To Meet.

Jessica Williams, the quick-witted Daily Show correspondent, stars opposite Bridesmaids actor Chris Dowd in Netflix's new comedy The Incredible Jessica James. The movie, which premieres July 28th, chronicles the life of aspiring playwright (Williams) as she comes into her own following a nasty breakup.
In the two-minute trailer, Williams-as-James lists all her positive traits in an act of self-affirmation as she goes on bad date after bad date. "I'm tall and pretty and smart and I'm a cocoa queen," her voice declares over scenes of her snuggling up to a would-be suitor.

A high-school shooting claimed to have been inspired by a scene from Leonardo DiCaprio film The Basketball Diaries is spotlighted tonight on REELZChannel documentary series CopyCat Killers. The shooting at Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky, in December 1997 saw 14-year-old Michael Carneal shoot dead three students and injure five others. It was later claimed he may have been inspired from a dream-sequence scene from 1995 film The Basketball Diaries in which DiCaprio’s character Jim Carroll shoots students at his school. You time is valuable, and so are both services for different reasons.War Machine (Netflix)
Although there may be a competition going on between Amazon and Netflix for subscribers, the truth is that both company’s streaming services are essential for anyone who watches a lot of movies and TV and who wants to be part of the pop culture conversations as they happen.
There’s no denying that Amazon Prime is worth the $99/year, which not only gives you access to many movies but also a good amount of music streaming and digital media access, plus faster shipping for when you actually want some sort of physical product (you can also just get video content for $8.99/month, which oddly means paying more for less).
And Netflix is still a must-have for both its exclusive and nonexclusive content, though depending on one’s usage could be best for sporadic membership rather than continued subscription — now at $120/year...

Jessie James' fame is growing. But not because the country crooner -- who just happens to have a name one letter removed from notorious Sandra Bullock ex Jesse James -- has cheated on anyone. In fact, as far as we know, her name has never even been associated with celebrity scandal.
Oh, and she's also not to be confused with leggy British singer Jessie J.
So who is Jessie James and why is she trending all over search engines on Thursday (Nov. 17)? It turns out she's a country singer -- she also goes by Jessica James -- who happens to be dating Denver Bronco Eric Decker. Pop hunk Nick Lachey cheated on his wife Jessica Simpson with porn star Jessica Jaymes at a bachelor party, according to two American publications. Star magazine and National Enquirer both claim Lachey frolicked with Jaymes at the October 12 bash for his sound engineer friend Sean Sullivan, held at the Hollywood Hills home of C-Note Records owner Cody Leibel. While Jaymes admits Lachey watched her indulge in a lesbian sex show, she denies anything else happened. Jaymes tells website Pagesix.Com, "I was hired to perform at a bachelor party. And yes, Nick Lachey was there. I did a girl-on-girl show with another porn star, whose name I don't know. We brought over a lot of really cool vibrators and whipped cream and gear and stuff. There were toys used and naughty actions going on. The guys are allowed to put money on me, and Nick put some money on me and that's about it. I went home with my bodyguard later that night. Everything's been exaggerated. Everyone had a really good time. That's really all I'm allowed to say." A spokesperson for Lachey has denied the allegations: "Nick was there, but he didn't do anything wrong. These claims are completely false." The groom-to-be Sullivan wed Jennifer Macfarlane at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church on October 15, where Simpson played bridesmaid and Lachey's brother Drew was best man.
