“Doc,” the Italian medical procedural that’s a local hit and and major export, is getting a theatrical outing in Italy prior to TV play thanks to a deal between production company Lux Vide and Uci Cinemas.
In what is being touted as a milestone, the first two episodes of the show’s third season are set to screen in Uci Cinemas across Italy as an event release on Dec. 18 and 19, ahead of the full season release of “Doc” Jan. 11 on state broadcaster Rai’s flagship Rai 1 channel.
“‘Doc’ is a show of many firsts. Our first foray into the medical genre, which drew a record-breaking 30% average audience share for Rai; our first U.S. remake deal; and now an unprecedented [for Lux Vide] limited theatrical release,” said Luca Bernabei, CEO of the Fremantle-owned Lux Vide, in a statement. He went on to praise the show for “it’s distinctive flair and strong concept.

On July 26, the day the Venice lineup was announced, my 14-year-old daughter Emma started hounding me that I had to take her on the red carpet to see Timothée Chalamet. Eventually, I relented, even though I thought the movie, “Bones and All” — about two cannibals who fall in love — would be too gory for her. So we struck a compromise: We’d try to meet Chalamet without going inside to see the film.
So there we were — Emma; her friend Nina, 13; and me — on a balmy late afternoon in a small reserved spot for journalists behind the red carpet, opposite the fans, waiting for our A-list sighting. And for a while it was pretty boring. The girls spotted “Outer Banks” star Chase Stokes; YouTuber Emma Chamberlain; Simone Ashley, whom they known from “Bridgerton,” and Italy’s Luca Argentero who stars in the local medical procedural “Doc.” For me the most...

VENICE, Italy -- Emanuele Crialese's "Nuovomondo" was awarded the Diamanti al Cinema (Cinema Diamonds) for best film late Sunday at the Venice Film Festival, giving it the rare distinction of being honored in consecutive years at the fest.
The Diamanti al Cinema awards are voted on by moviegoers at more than 500 cinemas across Italy. More than 25,000 votes were collected this year, for which any film released for the 12-month period ending in March was eligible.
The honor for "Nuovomondo" came a year after it premiered in Venice and took home a special jury prize. Crialese, meanwhile, is back in Venice this year as a member of the main jury.
The most decorated film among the winners was Ferzan Ozpetek's "Saturno contro" (Saturn in Opposition). Ozpetek won the award for best director, and the film took home all the major acting awards: for best actor (Pierfrancesco Favino), actress (Margherita Buy), supporting actor (Luca Argentero) and supporting actress (Ambra Angiolini).
