SandalwoodThe film has released three years after it was made and looks very dated.Aravind ShwethaLooty marks the comeback of actor Isha Koppikar to Kannada movies after almost two decades (18 years). The movie finally saw the light of the day after three long years. However, honestly speaking, watching a 2015 film in 2018 makes no sense. So much has happened over three years – like demonetisation – and a bank robbery themed movie, without updates, appears unrealistic and boring. The movie opens with a shoddily-shot bank robbery sequence. A gang of friends loots money from a bank in Hyderabad and decides to settle down in Bengaluru. But, the news of the robbery spreads like wildfire and they are forced to abandon the ‘bag with loot’ just before the checkpost. Acp Durga Bhavani (Isha Koppikar) is introduced to us as a tough officer with a lot of unnecessary buildup. She is made in charge of...

For the music of the films of 2014, the composers brought in classic voices, new vocal sounds and vibes and even an actress or two to bring their songs to life. Usually we limit our list to the 5 Best Female Singers but this year we had to expand to 10 in order to highlight their fabulous performances.
10. Shraddha Kapoor
For the first time an actress makes it to our Best Female Singers countdown. Shraddha not only shined in two completely different roles in Ek Villain and Haider, the young actress also showed off her lovely voice with two completely different tunes. With ‘Galliyan’ from Ek Villain, she impressed with her melodious tones. In ‘Do Jahaan’ from Haider she sang a Kashmiri folk song, about which director and composer Vishal Bhardwaj said, “After listening to the song they (Kashmiris) would want to keep you with themselves.” Perhaps one day in the future she...

Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja was brought on board to create the sound of Raja Natwarlal and he used some of the best singers in the business. So did the music match up to the brilliance of the vocal lines? See what we thought!

Film: "Highway"; Composer: A.R. Rahman; Singers: Sultan Nooran, Jyoti Nooran, A.R. Rahman, Jonita Gandhi, Kash, Krissy, Suvi Suresh, Zeb Bangash, Alia Bhatt, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Shweta Pandit; Rating: ****
Alia Bhatt-Randeep Hooda-starrer "Highway", a romantic drama directed by Imtiaz Ali, boasts of nine tracks. The songs show Rahman's efforts at once again creating something enthralling.
It starts on a very soothing note with "Patakha Guddi". Sung by the Nooran sisters - Sultan and Jyoti - the Sufi number is soulful. The song will make you feel free-spirited.
Sung by music maestro Rahman, "Maahi ve" comes next. A love ballad, it has simple yet expressive lyrics mixed with Rahman's voice. This one will surely give.

Film: "Zanjeer"; Composer: Chirantan Bhatt; Singers: Mika Singh, Talia Bentson, Mamta Sharma, Meet Bros Anjjan, Wajhi, Palak Muchhal, Sukhwinder Singh, Shabab Sabri, Shweta Pandit, and Shreya Ghoshal; Ratings: ***
Director Apoorva Lakhia's movie "Zanjeer", a remake of the 1973 movie of the same name, has seven tracks. While retaining the original flavour of the plot, composer Chirantan Bhatt has given it a contemporary twist.
The album begins with stylish Mika Singh number "Mumabi ke hero". This can become the anthem of Mumbai Police as it portrays them in a most heroic way. Amitabh Bachchan's dialogues from the original add nostalgia. Singer Talia Bentson kicks in with a rap and a British accent but does not really impress..

Bejoy Nambiar is one of the most innovative directors around, with his unconventional stories and brilliant soundtracks. Coming off the critically acclaimed Shaitan, which was produced by mentor Anurag Kashyap, Nambiar is striking out on his own terms with the ambitious bilingual film David. Detailing the lives of three David’s in the Hindi version, and two in the Tamil one, the film has been making waves with its interesting promos and versatile soundtrack. The film boasts an impressive cast including Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vikram, Lara Dutta, Tabu, Jiiva, Vinay Virmani, Isha Sharvani, Anupama Kumar and Shweta Pandit. Recently we revealed the video of singer Shweta Pandit’s outstanding version of the showstopper ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ from Les Miserables. Her take on the song has gotten a tremendous response the world over and even some incredible praise from the maestro himself. See whom we mean and more as I caught up with Shweta for a quick ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ chat!
Your version of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ has gotten an outstanding response and some wonderful praise! How does that feel?
It has been incredible. When I was recording the song, I was a little unsure that people would like it because I was singing an English song for the first time. You know most of my songs here in India have been popular and people know that I sing in different languages like Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The only thing about an Indian singing an English...

Bejoy Nambiar’s Shaitan is a perennial favourite album of mine, his latest film David, a Tamil and Hindi bilingual features the music from a whopping 8 composers. Shaitan collaborators Prashant Pillai, and Mikey McCleary, along with Bramafatura, Maatibaani, Remo Fernandes, Modern Mafia, Anirudh Ravichander, and Saurabh Roy contribute to the wildly eclectic and amazing album that surprises with its innovation and addictiveness. David spans three decades, with three different Davids played by Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinay Virmani, and Vikram dealing with their trials and tribulations. It’s an album that works on a conceptual level as well as complementing the narrative of this interesting film. It also happens to be on my most played this week!
We start with Bramafatura’s fantastic track, Ghum Huye (The Theme of David), which is an interesting atmospheric track that hooks you in with its trance beats. Mark Fulgado and Gaurav Godkhindi are the duo behind Bramafatura,...

He actually triggered an inspiration with his question and since he's also a fabulous singer himself and also acted in Les Misérables, I decided I should work on this and send it to him someday." Gv Prakash Kumar makes his Bollywood debut dragging some heavy baggage along with him: he’s the nephew of the universally esteemed maestro, A.R. Rahman. Inevitably, his work is going to be judged (fairly or unfairly) as to how well it stacks up against his famous uncle’s.
Joker isn’t a perfect soundtrack: it comes along with baggage of its own (the early leaking of item number track Kafirana under its controversial working title “I Want Fakht You” garnered mostly negative attention); director Shirish Kunder’s perfectionist/control-freak tendency to have his fingers in every pie including the music – in this case, as lyricist – isn’t always to everyone’s taste. With Joker reportedly Akshay Kumar’s 100th film, is it possible that the soundtrack, at least, could be a hit?

Directed by Shirish Kunder, Joker stars the hot couple f Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha who were last seen in Rowdy Rathore. The movie will also feature a band of other actors such as Shreyas Talpade, Minissha Lamba, Asrani, Vindu Dara Singh and many more. The much-hyped movie Joker was going to be released in 3D but now we hear it is just going to be released in 2D a decision made by business heads based on the recently bombed 3D movies. Joker is being produced by Farah Khan (Three’s Company), Akshay Kumar (Hari Om Productions) and Utv.
We have been getting some sneak peeks into the film and recently the director shared a bit more via Twitter!
Joker is all about:
#Joker refers to a place that does not exist on the global map. Just like #Joker in a pack of cards that does not belong to any colour.
