Paranormal Activity 3
Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman
Written by Christopher Landon
2011, USA
Sequels in horror franchises are rarely ever connected to their predecessors with the exception of the same villain/outline that proves profitable. What makes the additions to the Paranormal Activity franchise different is that each follow-up expands the universe, further exploring the demon that plagued Katie and Micah in 2009. With Katie and Kristi both having their adult horrors played out onscreen with Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 2, let’s do the time warp again.
The year is 1988, and cinematographer Dennis (Chris Smith) is moving in with girlfriend Julie (Lauren Bittner) and her two daughters Katie and Kristi. The story opens at a family wedding Dennis is filming, some of the conversation between attendees reveals quick insights into his relationship with Julie before the couple moves in together. Dennis and Julie aren’t getting married prior to the move,...

Zoe Hart has been working at her late father Harvey Wilkes' medical practice in Bluebell for three seasons now on "Hart of Dixie," but we have yet to meet any other family members from Zoe's biological paternal side.
All that is about to change, as "Paranormal Activity 3" star Lauren Bittner guest stars in the upcoming episode, "Family Tradition," as Vivian, Zoe's cousin on her Wilkes side. How do these two long-lost cousins reunite? In a purely coincidental fashion, Zoe and Joel want to buy a new home that is currently owned by Vivian.
While we're excited to meet a long-lost relative of Zoe's, we're less than thrilled that Zoe and Joel are looking to buy a home together. As we've made it pretty clear: Joel is the worst.

With a couple very handsome faces already on the way to Bluebell for Hart of Dixie Season 3 - Robert Buckley and Ryan McPartlin will each appear in at least one episode - TV Line now confirms that Lauren Bittner has also booked a ticket for Alabama.
The Paranormal Activity actress, who stopped by CBS' Blue Bloods this spring, will come on board multiple installments as Vivian, a cousin of Rachel Bilson's Zoe Hart.
Not much is known about the character at the moment, but it's safe to assume she still stir up trouble of some kind. The CW, meanwhile, just release the first trailer for Hart of Dixie Season 3. Check it out here:

We've met Zoe's parents who raised her, and though her biological father died before she ever met him, we're finally getting a look at his side of the family.
"Hart of Dixie" just cast Zoe Hart's cousin, and she's coming to Bluebell.
Actress Lauren Bittner has joined The CW's southern charmer, TVLine reports. She will play a recurring role in Season 3 as Vivian, a relative of Zoe's late doctor dad Harley Wilkes.
No word yet on how Vivian will get along with newfound cousin Zoe -- or if she will side with the rest of Bluebell and hate Zoe's guts, as she starts off Season 3 in pretty bad standing with the town she abandoned in the Season 2 finale.
Bittner is best known for her role in "Paranormal Activity 3." She joins the previously reported "One Tree Hill" alum Robert Buckley and "Chuck" vet Ryan McPartlin for "Hart of Dixie's" third season.

The "Paranormal Activity" movies are credited with taking the terror out of art-directed dungeons and dilapidated bathrooms and putting it right smack dab in the middle of our bedrooms. The "Saw" series raised a white flag of surrender after "Paranormal Activity" took most of the Halloween box office dollars in 2009, bringing an end to Jigsaw's legacy and returning us to the land of lo-fi horror.
Since then, the "Paranormal" series has become something of its own "Saw"-sized franchise, with the fourth installment set to hit theaters this Friday. Somewhat unfortunately (though probably inevitably), the more this decades-spanning haunted house tale expands and explains its increasingly silly mythology, the less scary and interesting it becomes — though we have to give props to the producers for maintaining the low-budget, "found footage" aesthetic that the first film incorporated so brilliantly.

Chicago – It is incredibly rare for a third installment in a franchise to find what was lost in the second one. That usually takes much longer, if it ever comes. “Saw III,” “Friday the 13th, Part III,” “Halloween III” — none of these movies come close to the original. Which is why it’s so remarkable to report that “Paranormal Activity 3” comes surprisingly close to the quality of the first film, arguably surpassing it.
Blu-ray Rating: 3.5/5.0

Paranormal Activity 3 takes audiences back to where it all began with a prequel directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman the filmmakers who created the “is it real?” documentary Catfish. I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of the Paranormal Activity franchise or “found footage’ movies in general but, like any good reviewer, I have to put my prejudices aside and judge the film on its own merits. Which in the case of this prequel/three-quel are few and far between.

This week: The origin of the fright franchise's supernatural terror is explored in the prequel "Paranormal Activity 3," Hugh Jackman plays a former boxer who promotes robot fighters in the futuristic family flick "Real Steel," and two classic comedies -- "Stripes" and "Annie Hall" -- make their Blu-ray debuts.
'Paranormal Activity 3'
Box Office: $104 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 66% Fresh
Storyline: This "Paranormal Activity" prequel features found VHS footage of Katie and Kristi Featherton when they were little girls in 1988. It seems that supernatural shenanigans have followed the sisters for years, and their mother's boyfriend, a wedding photographer, records every devilish thing that goes bump in the night.
Extras! The "Lost Tapes" on the DVD and Blu-ray feature some more footage of the mother's boyfriend (Christopher Nicolas Smith) trying to scare her (Lauren Bittner), but any footage of the sex tape the two tried to make at the beginning of the movie remains regrettably "lost.

In anticipation of the January 24 DVD and Blu-ray release of Paranormal Activity 3, Shock Till You Drop spoke with the film's star, Lauren Bittner. Inside, she talks about the loose shooting approach to a "found footage" film, why she was reluctant to play a mother, and she's asked what she knows about the fourth installment.
Beginning today, in a first, all three films in the franchise will be available for Digital Download prior to the Blu-ray/DVD debut. This experience, called Paranormal Activity: The Chronology, presents the films in chronological order as a seamless marathon.

*spoiler alert.
Directors: Henry Joost, and Ariel Schulman.
Writers: Christopher B. Landon, Oren Peli (characters).
Cast: Chloe Csengery, Jessica Tyler Brown and Christopher Nicholas Smith.
The movie Paranormal Activity 3 finally gets a chance to explain itself and provide for some interesting moments. After the events from the first two movies, there are a lot of questions asked which gets revealed with this new one.
The film begins with an adult Katie (Katie Featherston) going to see Kristi (Sprague Grayden). She is there to see how the happy couple is doing, and to drop off a box of old VHS tapes. She says that they are from Grandma Lois, presumably now deceased, and she has not had the time to look at them. Neither of them remembers those times, and instead of sitting down to watch them, they are being tossed into storage. However, one day later, Kristi's home gets...

I love the .Paranormal Activity. franchise. The first one intrigued me, the second one scared me, and the third made me believe in the potency of the franchise. So I was happy as a clam to interview the directors of the third installment, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
("Paranormal Activity 3" Movie Review)
One of the biggest questions the fans were asking was . how come there were some scenes shown in the trailer that were not shown on the final cut?
But we.ll get to that in a minute.
For now, let.s congratulate Joost and Schulman for keeping the .Paramount Activity. tradition of no gore, just good old-fashioned scares alive!
Oh yeah, and let.s congratulate them too for having the biggest box-office opening for a horror film ever, and for the biggest opening of any film in October!
In this interview, we talked about:

In Paranormal Activity 3 up-and-coming actress Lauren Bittner portrays Julie, the super-sensible mom trying to raise her two young daughters, Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown) and Katie (Chloe Csengery), with the help of her videographer boyfriend Dennis (Christopher Nicholas Smith). But for anyone who has seen the first two installments in the growing Paranormal Activity franchise, we know that things won't be going very smoothly for Julie, Dennis and the girls once Kristi's new imaginary friend "Toby" settles in to torment the young family.
Recently Dread Central caught up with Bittner to talk about the latest Paranormal Activity sequel, and while there was a lot that she wasn't able to share with us (understandably so since secrecy is the name of the game with this franchise), the actress did talk a bit about her experiences on set making one of the scariest movies of the year and if she knows whether...

This week, on a very special episode of Reject Radio, we speak with Paranormal Activity 3 star Lauren Bittner, get some minute-by-minute screenwriting tips from “Something Startling Happens: The 120 Story Beats Every Writer Should Know” author Todd Klick, and we present a very special interview with Mr. Orson Welles (as played by an inebriated Geoff Latulippe). So, Paranormal Activity 3 ended up making $52.5 million in its first three days domestically and just shy of $80 million worldwide. The film was the most expensive of the first three to produce, costing a measly $5 million. Paranormal Activity 4 will obviously be made, but what are the story possibilities? To answer that, we have to explore what we already know. Last night I sat down and watched Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 2 to beef up my knowledge and re-familiarize myself with the material. I hadn't seen either film since seeing them one time in the theater and I didn't want to make any assumptions with the facts. So, let's take a look back. Note: I think it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, this article essentially spoils all three Paranormal Activity movies. If you don't want to know what happens in any of them, stop reading now... Paranormal Activity...

There seems to be two camps complaining about Paranormal Activity 3 for two different reasons. The first reason is a group saying they didn't find it scary, many times saying they didn't find the first two scary either. Of course, we could delve into why they would see the third one if they didn't find the first two scary, but that's a different matter altogether. The second camp, however, is complaining because 75+% of the footage from the trailers is not in the finished film. Scenes that include the little girls playing Bloody Mary, the knocking game on the closet door, the jump from the bedroom stairs, the water being thrown, the mother being pulled into the bedroom and a psychic getting beat to hell by the ghostly spirit inhabiting the house. I'll admit, I saw one of the trailers and as I watched I was waiting for the moment when...

On Friday, after the directors of "Paranormal Activity 3" helped us reveal 10 secrets about their horror sequel, we promised that on Monday, once fans had actually been able to check out the movie, we'd deliver a slew of answers to burning questions.
And check it out, fans most certainly did. "Pa 3" reeled in $54 million at the box office over its first weekend. That's a lot of money for a lot of screams and, likely, a lot of sore throats today. So you guys deserve it: Read on for directors Henry Joost's and Ariel Schulman's answers to many of the eye-popping moments in the flick (needless to say, major spoilers exist below).

A Halloween massacre came early this year. Paramount Pictures’ “Paranormal Activity 3” earned its franchise record $54 million on 3,321 theaters for the top spot in the weekend box office. It also included the $8 million midnight screening. The third film beat out last year’s “Paranormal Activity 2” debut of $40.7 million. “Paranormal Activity 3” is a prequel set in 1988 about young sisters befriending an invisible entity in their home. The $5-million budget film stars Chloe Csengery, Jessica Tyler Browner, Katie Featherson, Sprague Grayden, Lauren Bittner and Christopher Nicholas Smith. Summit Entertainment’s “The Three Musketeers” fell short of expectations on its new take of the Alexandre Dumas tale. The Paul W.S. Anderson-directed film garnered $8 million in 3,017 theaters for fourth place. “The Three Musketeers” starred Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Matthew MacFadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich. In rounding out of the top five, “Real Steel” fell one spot to second place with $11.3 million,...

Paranormal Activity 3
Directed by Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman
Written by Christopher B. Landon, Oren Peli
Starring Lauren Bittner, Chloe Csengery, Christopher Nicholas Smith, Jessica Tyler Brown, Dustin Ingram, Katie Featherston, Sprague Grayden
Release Date: October 21, 2011
It was not surprising that Paranormal Activity was turned into a franchise after the original, which was made on a budget of $15,000, made over $100 million at the box office. What is surprising is that Paranormal Activity 3, despite rehashing the same formula as the first two films, still manages to scare people half to death.
The evil is back. The incorporeal evil has been caught on tape again, and this time it has a name... Toby. That's right, the malevolent entity haunting the family in the Paranormal Activity series is named Toby. At least, that is, according to Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown), who gives the name to what her sister Katie (Chloe Csengery) thinks is her imaginary friend.

New 'Paranormal Activity 3' delivered pretty good thrills and abrupt, weird ending. Paramount Pictures delivered their third installment of the horror/thriller "Paranormal Activity" franchise this weekend. I just checked it out,and I thought it was ok. It delivered some pretty good "edge of your seat" thrills, coupled with a very freaky, abrupt ending, which I'm still trying to figure out. All I know, is it left some people very dead. The movie stars: Katie Featherston, Sprague Grayden, and Lauren Bittner. The new flick went back to 1988 when Katie and Kristi were just little girls. There mother Julie was married to a wedding photographer named Dennis who liked to video tape everything. Everything seemed nice and happy at first, but like all these movies, things quickly changed for the worse, starting with their first ghostly experience. It was an earthquake-like shaking of the house that freaked everyone out.

So I was planning on writing this review in the morning, but due to the nature of this film I was left unable to sleep. Through dark imagery, little kids and witchcraft this movie left my heart racing, and my body feeling paralyzed. I even had to go as far as double locking my apartment doors, just to make sure no one could get in.
The movie directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman was brilliantly crafted. The cinematography and raw grittiness gives the movie a realistic tone, while not neglecting the special effects department. What I love about the movie is it takes a family unit, and begins to isolate each member. It puts them in barns, closets and tiny claustrophobic rooms. The movie takes place in a familiar setting, a house,...

By now, you know the drill. Husband or boyfriend has a video camera, begins to suspect something otherworldly is amiss, wires the house with more video cameras, the violence from the spirits escalates, many jolts and surprises later, we reach a climax that leaves us eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Even though it’s pretty by the numbers at this point, Paranormal Activity 3 still stands as the scariest movie since, well, the last Paranormal Activity.

In the ever annoying home video genre of horror, Paranormal Activity remains as a powerhouse. Instead of turning into something formulaic and regurgitating the same kind of scares over and over again, the Paranormal Activity series adds to its storyline and consistently comes up with new and creative ways to deliver the scares. This is most evident with the latest installment which will come to many as a surprise. Former Catfish directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have done the unthinkable with a third tier film in a restrictive sub genre---they made it pretty darn good.

Tom Petty was right – the waiting is, indeed, the hardest part. Paranormal Activity 3 involves much waiting, some neat effects, more waiting, and then an ending that delivers just what we expect, but not what we need. It is no shocker. Unfortunately this year we have no Saw film to look forward to, the later editions achieved the power of South Park, allowing Jigsaw to take out his aggressions on what was plaguing the national zeitgeist.
Paranormal Activity 3 could more accurately be called Paranormal Activity: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, it begins with what we may think of as the first haunting, an origin tale for Katie and her sister Kristi. Kristi and family were the subject of Tod Williams’ Paranormal Activity 2, which my biggest takeaway was annoyance when it felt like 30% of the film was a static shot of an automated pool cleaner performing its task...

Chicago – Horror films that delicately balance the psychological nature of fear with the actual chills are as rare as Lady Gaga without attention. “Paranormal Activity 3” is one of those scary “delights,” essentially walking the tightrope between screaming “boo” in a crowded theater and tensely sending electricity down the spine.

Paranormal Activity 3 Directed by: Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman Written by: Christopher B. Landon Starring: Chloe Csengery, Jessica Tyler Brown, Christopher Nicholas Smith, Lauren Bittner Reigning king of the "Gotcha!" moment, Paranormal Activity is back – and though the premise may have worn thin, (how many compulsive videographers can one extended family have?) its minimalist scare tactics are as effective as ever. Scream for scream, the theater experience is without rival; hushed gasps, nervous tittering, and shrieks of surprise are empirical evidence of the films' effectiveness. Hence the backlash when Paranormal Activity hit home video: these movies cater to a crowd. A prequel of sorts, Paranormal Activity 3 rewinds the franchise to 1988, illuminating the origins of the Presence that ran amok in parts one and two. Helmed by Catfish directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the flick treads familiar territory, but keeps the audience on its toes. One of the major...
