While the whole world of TV fans is celebrating Elsbeth's deserved success, those who have been following Carrie Preston for a long time are looking back at the actress' filmography to choose something to distract themselves during the hiatus.
Although Elsbeth has been renewed for season 2, it won't arrive until the fall, so there's plenty of time to check out some of the actress' other projects.
Be careful, though, because not all of them are as good as Elsbeth. Preston's directorial debut, That's What She Said, is a movie you probably want to avoid at all costs. It's everything that's wrong with a parody comedy.
What Did Carrie Preston Direct?
Even though Carrie Preston has more than one movie under her belt, this one stands out from the crowd. First of all, Preston's other projects were TV episodes of Claws, The Good Fight and Your Honor. Second, all...

Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) isn’t going anywhere! The first season of Elsbeth ended with Wagner (Wendell Pierce) not only wanting her to stay, but giving her a new office. And that came after the finale broke from its format in a couple areas, including Elsbeth’s hunches when it comes to solving crimes and not revealing who the murderer was from the jump. Below, Preston looks back on the first season, including the finale, and begins pondering what could be next. Elsbeth is staying and Wagner wants her to stay. What did you enjoy most about playing the different sides of their dynamic this season? It takes a few turns leading up to that sweet hug. Carrie Preston: Yes, it was really wonderful working with Wendell. He’s such an extraordinary actor and he brings such gravitas and grace and skill to his work. And so when we got those scenes where we went head-to-head,...

Well, we did it. We made it to the finale of Elsbeth, and all that's left to say is when will the next season be?!
A lot was done differently in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 10, and it all made for a fantastic ending to an enjoyable season of murder hijinx.
As most viewers likely noticed from the start of the episode, the usually "howcatchem" show shifted gears to a genuine murder mystery.
It was undoubtedly a subtle misdirect to treat audiences, as the trailer promo didn't show who the killer was, and viewers were likely expecting a full rundown at the episode's start.
At least the most likely character from the episode trailer to be the killer was a mislead because Nadine was hilarious and likable.
I believe strongly in kindness and second chances. Also, in the healing power of the sun and certain textiles.
Nadine Permalink: I believe strongly in kindness and second chances.

“The Good Wife” introduced Carrie Preston‘s Elsbeth Tascioni back in 2010. She was so popular with fans that she also featured in the spin-off show “The Good Fight.” Now Preston and Elsbeth take center stage in the brand new spin-off “Elsbeth.”
CBS’ hit drama series follows Elsbeth as she carries out work as an unconventional attorney and helps the NYPD catch criminals with her astute observations. Preston was excellent in her guest role in “The Good Wife” but she is even better here as the main course, as critics have noted.
Ben Travers (Indie Wire) observed: “Preston knows the exact pitch at which to play Elsbeth. Never grating yet always pesky, her unrelenting positivity (and general relentlessness) would undoubtedly get old, fast, in real life. Cops and criminals alike are exhausted by her, but audiences can more easily appreciate her dogged demeanor because a) we know she’s on the right track,...

Elsbeth’s season 1 officially came to its end with last night’s final episode, and fans can now surely expect bigger things for the character next season.
As it turned out, there’s now no bad blood between Elsbeth and her boss Wagner who almost sent her away back to Chicago after learning that she was digging up dirt on him, and though the compelling drama seems to be over, a new level achieved in their relationship may still have some surprises in stock.
Apart from that, after proving Elsbeth’s ability to find murderers on her slightest whim, the show may turn to another perspective and dive deeper into Elsbeth’s personal story which has never been explored before.
Though so far it’s nothing but a mere suggestion, Elsbeth’s actress yet has another option for a family affair on set, and it doesn’t have to do...

Elsbeth’s first season officially wrapped it all up last night with the final episode, and some major changes the show has recently been hinting at turned out to be nothing more than everyone’s delusion.
The penultimate episode that aired a week earlier significantly intensified Elsbeth’s drama, leaving the character on the edge of her successful career in New York, but now she appears to be just fine.
However weird it may sound to the fans of modern shows that simply can’t do without major cliffhangers, Elsbeth’s creators indeed had a solid reason for the season’s happy ending.
Spoiler alert for Elsbeth’s season 1 finale.
The season’s last episode proves that the big fight between Elsbeth and her boss Wagner after he found out about her spying on him was just a fuss about nothing. Well, in the beginning he’s in fact shown...

Elsbeth may have just ended its first season on May 23, but we’re already looking ahead—and we very much hope that Carrie Preston‘s dream guest star appears this fall. Elsbeth will be back for its second season in the fall, and when TV Insider asked Preston for her dream guest stars, she has someone in mind: “You know I have to say Michael Emerson,” she said with a laugh. “We’re hoping that he’ll come to the Elsbeth world now that he’s done with the Kings other show Evil. So that would be wonderful.” She also already has an idea of the role she’d like to see him play. “It would be fun to see Michael not be a murderer or someone evil. It would be fun to see him be maybe even part of the police ...

Nearly a month after the cancellation news broke, nobody seems to be fine about NCIS: Hawai’i’s unenviable fate. Despite relatively good ratings and lots of love from NCIS’ fans, the show was scrapped after 3 seasons, the last of which left the viewers with a major cliffhanger that might never receive its explanation.
While some especially devoted fans are doing their best to confront CBS and force the network into bringing the series back, the cast seems to have reconciled with the news, saying goodbye to the show on their social media.
One of NCIS: Hawai’i’s actors has recently taken to Instagram to share his thoughts about the beloved series, but there’s another reason why the post has drawn so much attention.
Amid all the fuss concerning the cancellation, Ernie Malik’s actor Jason Antoon used his Instagram account to commemorate the good times he had while filming the series.

Elsbeth’s season 1 finale is set to hit CBS tonight, and now it seems like the show will leave its fans wondering about quite many things that will unfold in the next installment.
The series’ penultimate episode, released last week, proved that there’s a highly emotional ending with a very possible cliffhanger coming in and, while there’s not so much time left to finally see how things will eventually turn, some major changes are now pretty much confirmed by one of Elsbeth’s main actors.
Elsbeth’s ninth episode titled Sweet Justice shows a bittersweet outcome for the main character’s personal investigation that she’s been on since the very beginning of the season. By the end of it, Elsbeth is finally convinced that she’s got nothing on her boss Wagner who she’s had strong suspicions about all along, and, as she’s about to...

To all the fans’ simultaneous excitement and frustration, Elsbeth’s first season is coming to its end this week, and the tension is higher than ever after the latest episode’s plot twist.
With the show’s renewal for another season earlier this year, it surely won’t take too long before the next installment hits CBS this fall, though chances are fans will still have to be patient enough as a potential cliffhanger may come in the finale.
Spoiler alert for Elsbeth’s Episode 9.
The whole first season was pretty clear about Elsbeth’s personal and secretive investigation of police chief Wagner with her colleague and friend Kaya, who later became aware of Elsbeth’s plans and gave her a helping hand.
Eventually, the ninth episode proves that Elsbeth’s suspicions were quite delusional and she got nothing on Wagner, but, when she and Kaya are about to celebrate the end of their mission,...

Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) may be about to work her last case in New York in the CBS drama’s May 23 finale, or, well, so she thinks. Elsbeth has been renewed for Season 2, but Captain Wagner’s (Wendell Pierce) declaration, that he wants her to go back to Chicago after an arrest was made in the corruption case against him (Lieutenant Noonan had been using his name), could mean some major changes. Besides, Elsbeth doesn’t even necessarily want to return to Chicago! “I think she’s really found a new life and a new beginning reinvention, so to speak, of herself in New York, and so the thought of going back is pretty daunting to her,” Preston tells TV Insider. “She really wants to stay put. When you leave home for college, you don’t really want to go back and sleep on your parents’ couch. At least I didn’t.

The finale is finally upon us! It's been a good season of sleuthing for the Chicago transplant turned unofficial homicide detective.
But all things, good or bad, meaning Elsbeth's functional floral fashion, must end.
Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 10 looks like a tricky one to figure out, though. The only clear thing is that a fashion photographer is murdered, possibly by way of a gunshot.
The promo left a lot to be desired in terms of clues. But as Elsbeth is a "howcatchem," all the pertinent details will be laid out within the first five minutes of the episode.
It's just not very clear who the killer might be, but if we're going by who was featured the most in the trailer and who was the most recognizable face, then it's likely Laura Benanti playing runway model Nadine.
I'm more inclined to believe she is the killer for a couple of reasons.

With the first season’s finale coming in already this week, Elsbeth has surely cemented its status as one of the CBS’ top shows in the upcoming years. Ever since it hit the network in February, the series has been a top-notch detective story that eventually received a pretty deserved renewal for yet another season.
Though the detective genre isn’t something uncommon on modern TV with all the diversity of versatile characters embarking on their proper investigations, there’s still something very unique that Elsbeth brings into the genre, and the series’ showrunner knows exactly what his brainchild’s zest is.
Initially introduced in a cameo role in the 2009 political drama show The Good Wife, Elsbeth’s eponymous character now comes up on the main stage proving that she’s far more than just an observer.

As a spin-off from such hits as The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth was set up for a successful start. However, it's the charm of lead actress Carrie Preston and the twisted mysteries she solves that keep people coming back for more. Amateur sleuth shows used to be popular in the pre-csi era of television.
These series showcased detectives who were not police officers, were often quirky, and could best the cops at solving murders -- if they could get them to listen.
You're right if you think that sounds exactly like CBS' Elsbeth. Elsbeth has more in common with amateur sleuth series of the past than with the show it spun off from, The Good Wife.
Elsbeth is a modern take on classic shows like Columbo, Murder She Wrote, and Diagnosis Murder. Most shows it owes a debt to are no longer on television, but streaming services have given them new life.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 9 “Sweet Justice.”] Revenge may be sweet, but justice? It’s even sweeter and more satisfying. The penultimate episode of the season-long investigation into corruption—Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) was sent to New York to keep an eye on Wagner (Wendell Pierce)—ends with a major arrest. Wagner is, of course, not corrupt but rather, it turned out, a lieutenant and his close friend, Noonan (Fredric Lehne), was—and using his name! Thanks to a well-placed bug, Elsbeth and Wagner were able to follow him to catch him in the act. But once that was done, Wagner had one last move to make: to tell Elsbeth to return to Chicago. Below, Pierce breaks down the emotional episode and teases what’s ahead in the finale. How satisfying was it for Wagner to tell Noonan, “That’s why I got the job and you didn’t”? You'd think that in an episode centered around a bar and its owner, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 9 would have some sort of death by the drink, but in this episode, the murderer went with an oldie but a classic.
In "Sweet Justice," audiences meet Joe, the owner of an exclusive high-end bar who decides to take justice into his own hands by murdering one of his patron's bullies.
It would almost be sweet if his form of justice didn't involve homicide, oh, and killing the wrong woman.
Gracing the small screen this week for yet another familiar face is Arian Moayed.
Surprisingly, he did not already appear in The Good Wife or The Good Fight, but viewers might recognize him from Succession.
As for his character, anyone who frequents Netflix might notice some similarities between this Joe and another who also enjoys stalking women who have caught his eye in a little show called "You.

The new CBS series called Elsbeth had everyone excited to see the iconic character Elsbeth Tascioni, known from The Good Wife and The Good Fight, being a leading star of her very own TV series.
Elsbeth is a Columbo-like show, following the titular character on her journey to discover whoever committed the crime, although the fans already know who is responsible for that.
And while at first the viewers were captivated by the style of the show and were really interested to see Elsbeth solving all the cases in her own quirky style.
But it seems that it’s just getting too cringey and the fans are no longer interested in seeing the lead character solve the most obvious cases.

It's about time Elsbeth lived her Sex & The City realness in the next episode. A round of cosmopolitans for the girls!
Seriously, the drink is full of electrolytes and antioxidants.
In Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 9, the aptly named "police of the police" finds herself sipping more than the usual tea when an exclusive cocktail bar owner takes justice into his own hands.
By the looks of things, Elsbeth will be mixing business with pleasure when she clinks glasses with Joe, played by Arian Moayed, known for his role as Stewy Hosseini in Succession.
With only this and one more episode to close out the show's first season, audiences are likely to see equal parts of the weekly murders and the ongoing case of Wagner's false accusation of corruption.
Speaking of the captain, while he's given more than enough reasons to believe he is entirely innocent, the detective also seems...

While there are many fans of the procedural and mystery genre, not all of them were impressed when they first tuned in to Elsbeth. The show knows its niche and fits it perfectly: it has a quirky yet ingenious detective who struggles a bit with mundane tasks but solves the toughest cases brilliantly.
The show doesn't have to be realistic to be entertaining, that much is true. Viewers who have already fallen in love with the main character are willing to forgive some of the writing hiccups that the show undoubtedly has. However, in order to keep the audience intrigued and excited, Elsbeth will soon have to break the only formula she's been using.
Is Elsbeth Worth Watching?
The tricks taken straight into the 60s book don’t really seem to work when it comes to 2024 television. Though the viewers of Elsbeth are charmed by Carrie Preston’s magical portrayal of the titular character,...

Within the past week, Jennifer Jason Leigh (“Fargo”) lost and then regained her first place position on our Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress Emmy odds chart. She is being given a run for her money by small screen newcomer Kali Reis (“True Detective: Night Country”), who maintained general frontrunner status from May 9-12 and is still our experts’ pick to win, as has been the case since May 3.
A week ago, Reis was also our editors’ predicted winner, but they have since gravitated back toward Leigh. Based on the forecasts of 2,400+ Gold Derby users, both women currently have 6/1 odds in their race, with their closest competitor being Aja Naomi King (“Lessons in Chemistry”) at 15/2.
The temporary toppling of Leigh occurred three weeks after “Shōgun” overtook “Fargo” in the Best Limited Series race. Since then, the consensus among our readers has been that the latter show’s best shot...

One thing that many people look for in TV series is an escape from the challenges of reality. Every person is surrounded by a lot of stress these days, so turning on the TV at the end of the day is the easiest way to forget about all the problems and get an easy endorphin or adrenaline rush without actually risking anything.
Of course, people who enjoy fantasy and the supernatural aren't looking for an ounce of realism in the shows they watch, they're much more interested in lore consistency and character design. Those who prefer shows that allude to real-life professionals or events, however, are divided. And CBS' new hit, Elsbeth, just goes to show that divide.
Is Elsbeth Based on Real Life?
Although the show is considered a spin-off of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, you don't even have to watch them to understand what Elsbeth is all about.

Who doesn’t like a lighthearted show with a goofy main character who is a little irritating but still extremely lovable? Well, we dare you to find at least one person who would say no to a series with a lead like that.
CBS’s new show Elsbeth premiered on the network in the end of February this year and is actually related to two other shows, The Good Wife and The Good Fight. So for many viewers, it was the main reason to even start watching the new show.
Elsbeth is a police procedural comedy-drama that follows the main character, Elsbeth Tascioni, who is a rather atypical lawyer who gives up her job and moves to New York to become a detective of sorts. She starts working with the NYPD and helping them solve cases.

Makeup design doesn’t always mean prosthetics or extremes — that’s why the Emmy Awards smartly single out contemporary makeup design as its own category. But too often, those more immediately arresting designs are the ones that get all the attention. Not anymore. Join IndieWire in celebrating the makeup artists creating subtle, character-specific work for contemporary shows.
Elsbeth Tascioni has been around for three series now. Carrie Preston introduced the most upbeat litigator of all time with the finesse of a drunken master on “The Good Wife” (winning an Emmy Award for her guest appearance) and reprised the role on the spinoff series “The Good Fight.” Now, the character gets her own CBS series with “Elsbeth,” from “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight” creators Michelle King and Robert King, in which her defense attorney acts as an oddball crime solver while acting as a legal observer for an NYPD consent decree.

Like a dog with a bone, Elsbeth is on the case of a pilfered pooch like she has a bone to pick in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 8.
Technically, it's the dog's owner that Elsbeth is looking into, but this episode is so crammed with canines that it's hard to focus on anything other than the adorable dogs.
However, at the center of "Artificial Genius" is Quinn, the CEO of a location-based crime alert app called Cerberus. Audiences who watched the Netflix show You will likely recognize Elizabeth Lail as the actress who portrayed Beck.
Elsbeth has solidified certain formulaic practices, such as having a familiar face as the murderer in each episode, but now we can add to that. Elizabeth Lail joins the list of continued actors who have already portrayed characters in The Good Wife universe.

CBS’ big hit police procedural drama show Elsbeth is wrapping up its first season run, but isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Coming as an unofficial The Good Wife’s spinoff, Elsbeth owes its renewal for yet another season to its compelling plot and some past connections to the 2009 political drama starring Julianna Margulies.
As the show still has its television run and keeps teasing the grand finale, Elsbeth’s main star opened up about one guest star that she would like to have on the show’s set. Fair to say that the actress’ desire coincides with the one of quite a lot of fans across the world.
Talking about the show’s finale at CBS’ fall schedule reveal party last week, Elsbeth Tascioni’s actress Carrie Preston revealed that “it would be really cool” to have Julianna Margulies as a guest star in the show’s next season.

It looks like Elsbeth and the NYPD will be patrolling for some paws in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 8, "Artificial Genius." Although, considering the title of the episode and the nature of the promo, it's hard to see the connection between a missing dog and artificial intelligence.
However, if there is one thing that this show is good at, it's balancing the level of camp with a clever plot structure.
Elsbeth has easily figured out some of the genuinely bizarre methods of murder so far, like a nitroglycerin-dosed sports towel; thank you, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 5, for that stretch of the imagination that won't soon be forgotten.
She can more than handle the procurement of a possibly pilfered pooch.
In the upcoming installment of Elsbeth's premier season, Elizabeth Lail debuts as Quinn, the weekly murderer. Viewers might recognize her as Beck from the Netflix sensation You.

There will be spoilers for the "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire," episode "The Path of Anger," so beware.
In "Star Wars Rebels" we were introduced to a new prototype Tie Fighter that was far superior to the standard Tie Fighter in use by the Imperial fleet. Unlike the common Tie Fighters seen across "Star Wars" media, Tie Defenders had shields and hyperdrives, and they were deadly and far less disposable than the usual fleet. Grand Admiral Thrawn spent time lobbying the Empire to allocate resources to further develop the Tie Defender program and put them in use for battlefield superiority.
Unfortunately, Grand Moff Tarkin and Director Krennic worked to funnel every credit they could into developing the Death Star, putting all of their eggs in one basket. As the crew of the Ghost found out on "Star Wars Rebels", Tie Defenders were some of the most deadly ships the...

There will be spoilers for the "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" episode "The Path of Hate," so beware.
"Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" brings us to many locations across its six episodes, new and old, familiar and alien. One planet in particular, first introduced in "The Mandalorian" during its second season, gets the spotlight in the third episode of this series, "Path of Hate." Corvus was the setting for the 13th chapter of "The Mandalorian", showing us a blackened forest and a city named Calodan under the direct control of a magistrate named Morgan Elsbeth. Since this episode was our first introduction to Elsbeth, we didn't know who she was or how she took control of the planet, only that she was still aligned with the Imperials and had some connection to Grand Admiral Thrawn.

There will be spoilers for "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" Episode 1 "The Path of Fear," so beware.
"Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" (watch the trailer here) is the follow-up to the animated "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi" shorts from 2022. The initial series followed Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano through formative moments and turning points in their lives. There are two types of people who enjoy crime dramas: some prefer their shows to be brooding and dark, the gorier the better, while others tend to enjoy the mystery element mixed with a heartwarming comedy. Elsbeth is a sure-fire hit for the second group, but it's not the only show you might want to check out.
Here are 8 other shows that will give you as much pleasure as Elsbeth without having to wait weeks to see a new episode.

However, others have grown weary of over-using these characters, specifically if they do not have prior knowledge. In many ways, Tales of Empire exists because of the hardcore fans who love Clone Wars and Rebels-era characters. However, the expanding universe has paid dividends already, with greenlit shows and movies based on characters Filoni created from scratch, or co-created.
Yet the question about including more Filoni characters has become a hot-button issue in the fandom. Unlike Tales of the Jedi, this series focuses on more obscure figures within the larger Star Wars canon. Without having seen Ahsoka or deep into Clone Wars, you might never have seen these figures. The results have been inconsistent – providing a backstory...

CBS has been reeling fans in with dramas for over 50 years now, and it doesn't look like the network has any plans to stop.
The network really has something for everybody in its repertoire, whether you're looking for someone quirky and spooky like The Twilight Zone or want a procedural with dramatic flair like NCIS.
There are decades of dramas to be accounted for, but we're going to focus on some of the more recent dramas on CBS.
However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't watch CBS classics like Murder, She Wrote, Gunsmoke, Dallas, The Twlight Zone, and more.
When you're not catching up on older CBS classics, here's what we recommend watching for a more modern setting.

One of the most important things in any TV show is its main characters, and when the story is designed to follow only one person, the stakes are even higher for them. With an ensemble cast, viewers are much more forgiving of some narrative holes, but when the entire plot revolves around a single poorly written character, the problems begin.
While some of the Elsbeth viewers have already met the titular character, the show has attracted many new viewers looking for a lighthearted yet intriguing setup. However, these new Elsbeth fans have struggled to understand Elsbeth's personality.
Is Elsbeth a Spinoff?
As a spinoff of two previously released TV shows, Elsbeth's premise relies heavily on information that viewers have already been given. Although Elsbeth Tascioni has always been a secondary character, her quirky and sweet personality has charmed enough viewers to create an entire spinoff to get to know her better.
