Discovering the true emotional motivations of captivating characters, and how they relate to the other anti-heroes and troubled protagonists in a story, can be an exciting and captivating experience for actors to explore. Versatile and enchanting actress Julie McNiven powerfully explores the passionate depths of her characters’ complex relationships, which she previously began to do in the horror genre her recurring role as fallen angel, Anna Milton, in 2008 on the hit series, ‘Supernatural.’ The performer also naturally embraced how her character related to the troubled characters around her in her new independent found footage horror movie, ‘The Possession of Michael King,’ the first feature film from writer-director David Jung. Chicago – The problem with most horror films is that they don’t understand what really scares us, and substitute bloody messes or the jack-in-the-box “boo!” instead of what really gets under our skins. “The Possession of Michael King” is a rare and special exception, taking demonic possession to broad depths of psychological and religious symbolism.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
The story of a non-believer who seeks to make a film about proof of demonic possession has a full laundry list for that genre – the odd movements, the voices, the killings, the Church, the “found” video footage and the weird zealots aiding the possessed along the way. What it does differently with the material is in the context circumstance of extreme emotional distress, to the point that it all could be psychosomatic – fiercely so, but possible in the way its presented. Writer/director David Jung creates an environment of dread, one that marries to...

The Possession of Michael King
Directed by: David Jung
Cast: Shane Johnson, Ella Anderson, Julie McNiven
Running Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: August 22, 2014 (Chicago)
Plot: After his wife is killed, a husband and father (Johnson) films himself trying to summon a demon to prove whether spirits are or aren’t real.
Who’S It For? Those who like bad horror movies, or are interested in seeing the latest horror movie with the word “possession” in its title.
Overall
The Possession of Michael King begins with a dead-horse stance, raging against the scam of fortune tellers. This thesis is simultaneously groan-worthy and emblematic foreshadowing of this juvenile horror film’s whiny angst, in which a man deduces that the fulfillment of his late wife’s tarot reading means that he must investigate the existence of spirits.
But instead of venturing as to whether heaven is fo’ real, or seeing...

It’s difficult to be scared of what you don’t believe in. Michael King, a documentary filmmaker whose wife has just died, has no belief in an afterlife and thus feels no fear when it comes to exploring the supernatural. Anchor Bay Films is hard at work in France, having just acquired the rights to the David Jung-directed The Possession of Michael King at Cannes. The feature directorial debut of Jung, the thriller follows a widower who delves into the occult following the death of his wife.
Starring Dale Dickey, Tomas Arana, Ella Anderson, and Julie McNiven, the Gold Circle Films production is yet another film that seeks to keep the “possession” sub-genre alive and well.
Evp of Acquisitions Kevin Kasha has clearly noticed their popularity, stating “Audiences love possession films, and this one is filled with all the thrills they’re known for.”
This, of course, says nothing about the incredibly common and increasingly frustrating ”The Haunting/Possession of…” trend, but personal quibbles aside, it’s always great to see horror represented and making headway at Cannes.

She’s beautiful, she’s talented, she has been missed! Now Summer Glau is making a come-back to television in a new guest starring role. Thank you, Hawaii-five-o.
The star of Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has barely been seen since her guest arc on that super powered series, SyFy’s Alphas. She acted on a couple of episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, but after that, she left us in withdrawal. I know you fanboys feel the same way. Don’t try to deny it.
So, it is music to our ears that Glau will be saying “Aloha” to the cast of Hawaii-five-o. According to TV Line, the CBS crime-fighting procedural series puts Glau into the shoes of a young woman whose father has been murdered. She also happens to have an entanglement with an underground fighting ring. I don’t know if she chooses to roll with the illegal fighting types,...

I always enjoy the episodes which take place Over There, and tonight's episode "Bloodline" was no exception. The world-building never ceases to fascinate me, the Alternates are wonderfully intriguing, and trying to predict how the stories will affect Our Side is, well, rather fun. It was also quite the relief to be able to enjoy the show without the spectre of cancellation hanging over our heads: in case you haven’t heard, Fringe has indeed been officially renewed for a fourth season.
For a long time I was in the minority in that I actually liked AltLivia. My guess is that the impetus behind the hatred that developed was a combination of the mission she was carrying out against Our Side, as well as the fact that she was in a relationship with an unsuspecting Peter. I think people have been starting to come around since AltLivia was back on her own Side,...

Syfy has set (or re-announced) a slew of spring premiere dates, including a slew of original movies, the return of "Sanctuary" and the start of the final season for "Stargate Universe." "Stargate Universe" will actually lead off the spring premieres, returning on Monday, March 7 for the second half of its second season. Syfy has already confirmed that the show will not be back for a third season barring an absurd and a nearly unimaginable ratings spike. Guest stars for this portion of the "Sgu" season will include Victor Garber, French Stewart, Robert Picardo, Kathleen Quinlan and Julie McNiven. ...

Warning: the following contains spoilers for tonight’s episode of Fringe, and there was a pretty big reveal. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should probably wait to read this!
As William Bell – and T.S. Elliot – used to say, “only those that risk going too far can possibly know how far they will go”. Well, it seems as though tonight we discovered what line Walternate refuses to cross: he will not experiment on children. What I found most fascinating about this is that we’ve seen the lengths to which he will go to save his world, so it absolutely shocked me to find where he draws his moral line in the sand. This also says a fair bit about Walter, and how he and Walternate do actually have some fundamental differences, beyond the obvious superficial ones. In a comparison between the two, on this matter, Walternate actually comes out far superior,...

This review may contain spoilers Hoping for Robert Knepper to be given more room to play as Simeon in the last review, viewers got a chance to see his villainy come to a head in .Malice.. But perhaps the episode gave more to Rush (Robert Carlyle) than it did to Simeon. Instead of the one-note ambition that seemed to be gone after .The Greater Good., Rush showed great depths in his pain and revenge on Simeon. Viewers got an answer to a basic question of what happens if someone using the stones dies on one end. Ginn (Julie McNiven) switched with Amanda (Kathleen Munroe) to help Rush work Destiny. But when Simeon killed Ginn.s body on Destiny, it killed Amanda on Earth as well. So much for anyone hoping that Eli (David Blue) and Rush might have a semblance of a love life. Why did Simeon ...

You read right, dear readers. This week's Stargate Universe recap is actually a review, because there is a lot to discuss after this mind blowing episode. While tonight's airing was actually my second time seeing it, it still held a dramatic punch and contrasted how far this makeshift crew of the Destiny has come along.
Love and Revenge
Tonight we saw the loss of Ginn (Julie McNiven) as well as the loss of Dr. Amanda Perry (Kathleen Munroe) at the hands of Simeon (Robert Knepper). This tragic double death sent both Dr. Rush and Eli into a state of vengeance, which governed their actions (or in Eli's case wannabe actions) aboard and off the Destiny. In my personal opinion, Rush had the most logical reason for a breakdown than Eli did, because there was a history between Rush and Dr. Perry that extended pre-Desitny days. Eli had only known Ginn for a couple of days,...

Sgu gave us a double tap to the face with two revelations tonight. Bear with me while I bandage my face from the onslaught I just endured…
The Keys to Destiny’s Command
Rush awakes from a nightmare of Lucian Alliance torture. He goes to the console room, where he berates Dr. Park before going on a ‘walk.’ Said walk leads him to a door, where he cautiously enters a code and the door opens to reveal…
The bridge of the ship.
As Rush marvels at his newfound discovery, he’s accompanied by an apparition of his dead wife Gloria, who pretty much says what’s on Rush’s (and the audiences’) mind.
“You’re not going tell anyone… are you?”
Son of a…
Rush begins to speculate that the Destiny has some greater purpose than what he originally thought. Gloria entertains, and sometimes counters, Rush’s thoughts, which drives the ‘good’ doctor mad.

Stargate Universe is back and boy did it come out swinging! We got resolutions to last season’s finale up front and a possible new game changer on top of that. It’s safe to say that life aboard the Destiny will never be the same again… for awhile at least.
Where Am I?
Tj awakes in a cabin, no not a cabin on the ship, but an actual cabin built on land on some off-world planet. After realizing that Tj is fine, we hear the cries of a baby, who we quickly deduce is Tj’s. Did the show fast forward a couple of months or something? Not at all.
Tj (and the audience) is stunned when Caine walks into the cabin to greet Tj. You remember Caine right? He’s the doctor who decided to stay behind on the planet in the episode “Faith”, and almost talked Tj into staying as well.

When Stargate Universe ended last season pretty much every main character was in a position to die. In typical Stargate fashion, good things come in threes and the season premiere is the third part of the “Intervention” storyline introduced at the end of last season. Currently, the Lucian Alliance has taken control of Destiny and think they have the upper hand, but in reality, Dr. Rush is one step ahead. He begins to even the playing field while Eli helps Greer and Scott, last seen outside the ship, get back on board.
Again, every critic will break out their Battlestar Galactica comparisons with the series and that is fine, but haven’t we spent a year singing that tune? Why not move on already? I think it’s better because the characters are just as interesting, it’s visually more apetizing, and lastly it maintains the middleground between Galactica and Voyager.

The second season of Syfy’s mind blowing Stargate Universe is around the corner with a barrage of guest stars under it’s belt.
Show Patrol’s Curt Wagner exclusively broke news that Victor Garber (Alias, Eli Stone), Kathleen Quinlan (“Event Horizon”, “Apollo 13″) and French Stewart (3rd Rock From The Sun, “Inspector Gadget 2″) will be boarding the Destiny this fall for Sgu’s sophomore season.
Garber’s role will be that of Ambassador Ovirda of the planet Langara, which was last seen in the Stargate Sg-1 episode “Counterstrike” where it was reported that it fallen under Ori rule. How this planet and Ovirda will factor into the Destiny’s trek will be interesting, due to the Destiny being several light years from the Milky Way. It is also good to note that Langaria is also the home world of Jonas Quinn (Corin Nemic), a former Sg-1 member.

Tonight marks a milestone for the Winchester boys - and their fans. Who'd have thought a fledgling CW series about two dudes on a paranormal roadtrip would make it to one-hundred episodes and beyond, with a sixth season? We did! So it's no surprise that E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos says the big one-hundred "is so good it'll make your head spin." What exactly does that mean? According to Dos Santos, tonight someone will die, someone will make a sacrifice and someone will take on a "new role." What else can we expect from the Winchester's beyond the "Point of No Return?" Read on for a hell of a lot of spoilers!
One more note about "Point of No Return." Executive producer Sera Gamble told EW's Michael Ausiello that Dean's confrontation with Death is "hands-down one of (her) favorite scenes in the history of the show." (Ausiello Files) Episode titles...
