Likable debut feature casts Sally Phillips as the mother of two tearaways, one of whom turns crimefighter when his motorbike is pinched
An expanded version of a well-received short of the same name made in 2018, this represents a sparky if a smidge predictable feature debut for writer-director William Stone, fronted by a mix of fresh and familiar onscreen faces. The redoubtable Sally Phillips probably worked three or four days max to play put-upon working-class Sharon, mother to two variously dodgy young men, all of them living on a Bristol council estate in the 1980s. The younger brother Steve has a steady job working at the local butcher and boosts his income with illegal fishing, selling the catch to a local restaurant. As the film starts, he’s finally saved enough scratch to buy a small Honda Xl 125 motorbike, which promptly gets nicked five minutes after he drives it home and...

"I will teach you the most amazing things." Vertical Ent. has released the official trailer for Sensation, a sci-fi mystery thriller from filmmaker Martin Grof arriving right at the end of this year. Haven't heard much about this, another intriguing indie sci-fi that seems to be tearing off more than it can chew. When a lowly postman is inducted into a top-secret superhuman DNA program at a research facility, it's revealed that he'll be able to receive, control + send data based on the senses of others. As his training unfolds, strange and unsettling occurrences begin as he's placed in bizarre scenarios that make him question his reality. Eugene Simon and Emily Wyatt star, with Jennifer Martin and Alastair G. Cumming. From this trailer, it seems like a remix of Inception plus X-Men. Always with a nefarious businessman trying to keep it a secret. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Martin Grof's Sensation,...

The first thing most people learn about the art of crafting narrative, usually by way of weary primary school teachers, is that it is Not Good Enough to end a story with 'and then I woke up and it was all a dream'. Sensation - which you will be surprised to learn is actually director Martin Grof's second feature film - not only does that but repeats the trick whenever it runs out of ideas, which is to say frequently.
Purportedly a film about people with enhanced senses, this tangled mess makes no sense whatsoever. Eugene Simon (best known for playing Lancel Lanister in Game Of Thrones and looking just as lost here) plays Andrew, a postman who lives in the kind of nice suburban house impossible to afford on a young postman's salary but doesn't seem to have much family support, his father being a mystery to him and his.

You’ll need superhuman DNA, like protagonist Andrew, to understand this convoluted, untidy sci-fi conspiracy yarn
This sci-fi-laced British thriller, from Czech director Martin Grof, aims for lofty metaphysical heights but trips over its own feet. Next to the films it draws from, it’s like a Tesco Value version of The Matrix, or as if Inception was taking place in the mind of a lobotomy patient. On a tiny budget, it’s no disgrace to fall short of these illustrious inspirations, but Sensation never recovers from the fact that Grof – co-writing with Magdalena Drahovska – seems unable to tidily convey its central premise.
Looking to delve into his family history, postman Andrew (Game of Thrones’ Eugene Simon) has his DNA sequenced – but is told that he is part of an elite cohort of humans with hyper-acute sensory perception. Arm-twisted into joining a training group of similarly gifted individuals at a country house retreat,...

"Are you ready for the next part of your training?" GROFIlm has released an official trailer for a peculiar indie sci-fi thriller titled Sensation, the latest from filmmaker Martin Grof. This April protect your DNA. When a lowly postman is inducted into a top-secret superhuman DNA program at a research facility, it's revealed that he'll be able to receive, control and send information based on the senses of others. Described as "David Cronenberg meets Tenet", though this trailer doesn't really have that kind of vibe. Sensation stars Eugene Simon (seen in "Game of Thrones"), Emily Wyatt, Jennifer Martin, Alastair G. Cumming, Anil Desai, and Bethan Wright. This is another film that thinks it's smarter than it is, with a cool setup that doesn't have much else to offer. There have been plenty of other better DNA-editing films made before. Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Martin Grof's Sensation, direct from YouTube: Andrew,...

Former TF1 Studio boss Tristan du Laz and French industry veterans Gaspard de Chavagnac, the former boss of Zodiak France, and Edouard Duprey, the popular producer-creative, are joining forces to launch Originals Factory, a co-production and distribution company dedicated to delivering movies to platforms.
During his tenure at TF1 Studio, du Laz started distributing some of the movies he acquired across diverse platforms in France and saw the large potential of some high-concept films, either such genre titles as Nicolas Boukhrief’s terrorism-themed “Made in France,” thrillers including “Kidnap” with Hally Berry, romantic comedies like “Adaline” with Blake Lively, and other niche movies that performed much better on pay VOD services than they would in theaters.
The idea behind Originals Factory is to co-produce or acquire eight to 12 films per year and give them an exclusive premium rollout on transactional VOD services, first in France and eventually across Europe for six to eight weeks,...

Gothic romance, tortured siblings and a needlessly huge-’n’-haunted manor house hidden right out in the sticks; you can bet your lucky stars it’s another period-set Irish horror. And although Brian O’Malley’s sumptuously shot The Lodgers compounds plenty of the old-school genre nuts-and-bolts, with some slick effects work and solid performances, it’s far from the sort of spirit-stalking shake-up a lot of the horror crowd might well be hoping for.
Finding some sort of new ground in the Anglo-Irish conflicts of early 1920s Ireland, there’s a decent-enough central dynamic in a pair of outcast twins; orphans hidden away in a grubby old mansion off the beaten track, governed by a couple of omni-present, omni-pissed-off local ghosts. Tagline: "We See You." The Gothic supernatural horror The Lodgers is set to release this February. The film was developed by award winning director Brian O'Malley (Let Us Prey, 2014). In the film, a brother and sister are trapped on an ageing estate. They must follow three rules, or face a supernatural confrontation. The Lodgers premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, in 2017. The film stars: Charlotte Vega (Another Me, 2013), Bill Milner, Eugene Simon and David Bradley. A premiere of the film's United States' theatrical premiere is hosted here. The Lodgers is set in 1920s rural Ireland. Here, Rachel (Vega) and Edward (Milner) are ensnared by the lodgers, who emerge at midnight. When Rachel breaks three cursed rules, she sets in motion a showdown with the mansion's supernatural jailers. The film was partially developed by Epic Pictures Group. "Every sound the house makes, I hear them..." Epic Pictures has unveiled a new official trailer for the Irish gothic horror film called The Lodgers, following up the first trailer that debuted last year when this film was premiering at film festivals in the fall. Set in 1920s, the story is about twins Rachel and Edward who share a strange existence in their crumbling family estate. Each night, the property becomes the domain of a sinister presence ("The Lodgers") who enforces three rules upon the twins: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not permit an outsider past the threshold; if one attempts to escape, the life of the other is placed in jeopardy. Sounds pretty creepy. Starring Charlotte Vega, Bill Milner, David Bradley, and Eugene Simon. This looks like a solid thriller and it got some good reviews at the festivals. Might be worth a watch. I liked enough of 2014’s Let Us Prey, the debut feature from Irish filmmaker Bryan O’Malley, to want to see whatever he would do next. In addition to conjuring up some truly nightmarish imagery, O’Malley displayed an incredible talent for stylized visuals and slow-burn pacing. His follow-up film, this year’s The Lodgers, is a totally different kind of horror movie, but one which again showcases many of O’Malley’s same gifts as a visual storyteller.

After moving to New York City at 18 years old, Meredith Hagner has been busy working her way from one-time soap actress on As the World Turns -- which, after all, is where Julianne Moore got started -- to one of 2017’s breakouts. As star of the TBS dark comedy series, Search Party, and Facebook’s first scripted series, Strangers, and a recurring role on Younger’s fourth (and highest-rated) season, one could argue the actress is something of a millennial TV “It Girl.”
In fact, Strangers, which is now streaming in full on Facebook’s original video content platform, Watch, is very much a show about what’s happening now. Loosely inspired by creator Mia Lidofsky’s experiences of renting out her NYC apartment on Airbnb, the dramedy tells the emotional, sexual and professional adventures of two friends, Isobel (Zoe Chao) and Cam (Hagner), whose lives are impacted by the rotation of eccentric guests staying in their...

A family’s shame marks them forever—their fate sealed by birth, bound by a poem’s rules. They must be locked in their rooms by midnight, never let a stranger through the door, and remain together or else the one who stays dies. Rachel (Charlotte Vega) and Edward (Bill Milner) have lived these edicts like their parents before them and onwards back two centuries. But now on their eighteenth birthday, it’s time for these twins to fulfill their roles within this enduring lineage. Knowing everyone before them died shortly after doing the same forces Rachel to seek courage for an escape. However, unless she coaxes Edward to follow, her freedom cements his demise. So she stays in hopes he’ll muster the will to leave their decrepit home for the first time in a decade.

"Something is broken in them." An official trailer has debuted for a gothic horror film from Ireland titled The Lodgers, which is playing at the Toronto Film Festival this month. Yeah. Starring Charlotte Vega, Bill Milner, David Bradley, and Eugene Simon. This looks cool, with some very weird visual moment in this trailer. Enjoy. Finn Jones’ final moment as Loras Tyrell, the Knight of Flowers and brother to Margaery (Natalie Dormer), on Game of Thrones was a dramatic one. Broken from months of imprisonment, Loras begs for atonement from the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) before a crowd of onlookers. The only one missing from the trial: Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), who has set a trap for all those at the Great Sept, killing them all in a massive explosion. Just like that, the Tyrells and the High Sparrow, as well as a number of other characters, were killed off the show in the season six finale.
While fans were shocked by the moment, reacting live on social media, Jones was nonplussed by his character’s death. “I’ve been doing this for six years and I was ready to move on,” he tells Et by phone. “The Tyrells were never meant to stick around until the end. It was good...

Lancel Lannister returned with a vengeance on this season's Game of Thrones. Eugene Simon, who plays him, stopped by our La studios recently to talk about the "merciless" season ahead for some of our favorite characters. Spoilers ahead for Sunday night's episode of Game of Thrones. "If the Faith arrested all the pillow biters in King's Landing, there'd be no room in the dungeons for anyone else." —Lady Olenna, Queen of Thorns On Game of Thrones this season, Loras Tyrell is accused of fornication, buggery, and blasphemy, all acts that were not considered crimes in Westeros until the Faith Militant were resurrected. If anything, they were the norm — how else did Littlefinger's brothel become so profitable? "King's Landing was sort of like spring break," says Eugene Simon, who plays Lancel Lannister, one of the Sparrows. "It used to be, you could do whatever you wanted and get away with it."But with the High Sparrow now running the show (thanks, Cersei!), sex is under a microscope, starting with homosexuality, and Westeros is becoming more of a repressive society than ever before — at least in King's...

Diego Boneta ("Rock of Ages"), Ethan Peck ("The Sorcerer's Apprentice"), Nate Parker ("The Great Debaters"), Eugene Simon ("Game of Thrones") and Sung Kang ("Fast Five") are set to star in Jaume Collet-Sera's survival thriller "Eden" at Ombra Films.
A fusion of "Alive" and "Lord of the Flies," the story begins when a soccer team's plane crash lands on a deserted Pacific island.
Team spirit evaporates as disagreements cause the group to separate into factions - a violent one lead by an unbalanced ruler (Peck), and a compassionate one led by a selfless player (Parker).
Boneta plays the wildcard, a cocky player who becomes an obsessive and sadistic barbarian. Mark Mavrothalasitis penned the script. Collet-Sera, Parker, Juan Sola and Hernany Perla will produce.
