Plot: The mystery surrounding the enigmatic void on the west pasture of the Abbott family ranch deepens as Royal and his wife Cecelia struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of their granddaughter’s sudden disappearance. The stakes have never been higher for the Abbotts, who now face threats on multiple fronts with profound and unforeseen circumstances that could shake the very foundations of time itself.
Review: With so many shows on television and streaming platforms, it can be nearly impossible to distinguish yourself from the pack. While Outer Range may be a complex blend of genres, the first season was unlike anything else. Blending elements of everything from Yellowstone to Arrival and The Twilight Zone, Outer Range ended its first season with some substantial cliffhangers, while the second season wastes no time diving right into the murky complexity of this story of multiverses, parallel timelines and so much more.

Variety has shared a piece on 2024's streaming titles, confirming Echo is the second most-viewed series on Disney+ this year so far. It's an impressive achievement, particularly as Marvel Studios dropped all five episodes at once, leading to the show being quickly forgotten.
We've seen in recent years that weekly drops are much better for keeping people talking about new titles (which goes against Netflix's once highly successful streaming model of releasing every episode at once).
Rumour has it Echo suffered from quite a few issues behind the scenes, with six instalments becoming five, as a result. That could explain why they hit Disney+ on the same day, though reviews were somewhat positive as is evident from the show's 71% Rotten Tomatoes score.
However, putting this news into context is the fact, "[Percy Jackson and the Olympians] accounts for nearly a quarter of Disney+ original series viewing time so far...

Josh Brolin is stepping into the director’s chair.
The actor and executive producer of Prime Video series “Outer Range” helms one episode of the upcoming Season 2, which follows his character Royal Abbott struggling to keep his family together after a sci-fi reckoning on their ranch.
“Dune: Part Two” star Brolin leads the series alongside Lili Taylor, Imogen Poots, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, and Will Patton.
The official synopsis for Season 2 reads: “‘Outer Range’ centers on Royal Abbott (Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable phenomenon at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, in the form of a dark void. The mystery surrounding the enigmatic void on the west pasture of the Abbott family ranch deepens in Season Two, as Royal and his wife Cecelia (Taylor) struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of their granddaughter’s sudden disappearance.

Exclusive: After making all five episodes available on Tuesday, Marvel Studios’ Echo has premiered at No. 1 on both the Disney+ and Hulu platforms. The series marked several firsts for a Marvel show: the first TV-ma series developed at the studio, the first time every episode was available to subscribers at once and the first time a whole Marvel series has been available on both platforms at the same time.
It’s also the first show under the Marvel Spotlight banner, which the studio describes as a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity. While the studio hasn’t put out numbers, Echo is doing better than some of the consistently top-performing titles.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been having a rough time lately. From a quality standpoint, it shows in every single one of their products and the audience’s reactions to them. It seems people are not just interested enough to follow the overarching story of the MCU in these new phases. With more movies and TV series coming out in the future, it might be that the MCU will plummet even deeper. Echo, the latest Marvel TV series on Disney+, dares to go in a different direction, and just for that, it is partially successful.

This article contains spoilers for Echo episodes 1, 2, and 3.
The best fight scenes invite combatants to use their environment in novel, creative ways. In other words: if a fight gives you lemons, make lemonade. In the case of the skate rink brawl in episode 3 of Marvel series Echo: if a fight gives you an arcade game shooter, tear off its plastic guns and use the connecting cables as freaking Whips.
Indeed that’s exactly what our antihero Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo (Alaqua Cox) does to some Kingpin goons in the thrilling third episode of Echo. It turns out that the moment developed as organically behind the scenes as it did in the midst of Maya’s rumble.
“I had an idea and [that moment] just came together so beautifully,” episode 3 director Catriona McKenzie tells Den of Geek. “Here’s a native woman who is interfacing with a shoot-em-up Western game.”

Before she was cast in Marvel’s 2021 Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” Alaqua Cox had never considered becoming an actor. But then several friends sent her the same flyer looking for Indigenous deaf women in their 20s to try out for a new TV show.
“I said, ‘No, I don’t want to do that,’ and then two other friends sent it to me,” Cox says via an Asl interpreter. “Now a bunch of people have sent it to me, so I thought, ‘I’ll give it a shot.’”
Cox went through a three-month audition process to play Maya Lopez, a tough-as-nails enforcer for crime lord Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), who comes to question her loyalties when she learns Fisk ordered the death of her father, William (Zahn McClarnon). Marvel’s Echo series marks the launch of the company’s Marvel Spotlight banner, which will be their platform for “more grounded, character-driven stories” that don’t require a knowledge of “larger MCU continuity” – although the show does serve as a follow-up to the Hawkeye series and has ties to the Netflix Daredevil show and the upcoming Disney+ show Daredevil: Born Again. All of these connections are made clear in the most recent trailer for Echo, which uses stock footage from Hawkeye and Daredevil up front. You can watch it in the embed above.
The Echo character was introduced in the pages of the Daredevil comic book back in 1999, so it’s fitting that her show will have firm ties to Daredevil.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had its fair share of good villains over the years, from Tom Hiddleston's Loki to Josh Brolin's Thanos. But few actors have ever embodied a villain from the pages of Marvel Comics quite as well as Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. First making his debut in Netflix's "Daredevil" and later appearing in "Hawkeye," this is one of those legendary perfect actor/perfect role pairings. And good news for those who are fans of the actor as Fisk: he's a big part of the "Echo" series on Disney+. What's more, it sounds like it's going to be the Fisk we all love.

"Echo" serves as a spin-off of 2021's "Hawkeye" and, unassuming though it may be relative to the often grandiose nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this street-level Disney+ series is paving the way for the future. This, according to Marvel Studios' head of streaming Brad Winderbaum, who believes that this show's exploration of a smaller corner of this vast universe is indicative of what we can expect moving forward.
/Film's Ethan Anderton recently attended a press conference for "Echo" with the creative team behind the series, which focuses on Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez and her adoptive father, Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio). During the conversation, the subject of the McU's future, broadly speaking, came up. On that topic, Winderbaum offered the following:
"Marvel is such a big, vast universe. The comics have been called the greatest ongoing story that's ever been written -- certainly the longest. And there are...

Marvel Studios’ Echo isn’t your normal Disney+ series. No, this series has some bite and doesn’t skimp on gritty, violent action scenes. At least, that’s the vibe laid down in the first official trailer for the comic-book-inspired series starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez.
Cox was introduced in the role in 2021’s Hawkeye limited series starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld. Vincent D’Onofrio reprises his role as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin from Daredevil and Hawkeye in Echo, with the trailer confirming the series will trace his relationship with Maya.
The cast also includes Chaske Spencer (The English), Graham Greene (1883), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon), Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs), Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds), and Cody Lightning.
The event series is the first Marvel Studios show to receive a TV-ma rating. It’s also the first to drop simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu. And, it will mark the...

Marvel Studios is once again making waves, and this time, it’s with their ground-breaking series “Echo.” Scheduled for a simultaneous release on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024, it will be the first from Marvel Studios to carry a TV-ma rating. For those who are always on the lookout for a good binge, there’s more good news: all five episodes will drop at once!
The series centers on Maya Lopez, also known as Echo, portrayed by Alaqua Cox. After her intense journey in New York during the events of “Hawkeye (2021)”, Maya finds herself back in Oklahoma. Here, she has to grapple with her past, dive deep into her Native American heritage, and connect with her community and family. With the looming shadow of Wilson Fisk, played by the brilliant Vincent D’Onofrio, and the legacy she must confront, the series promises to be an intense ride.
Joining Alaqua and Vincent is an ensemble cast.

The reverberations of upcoming Disney+ series “Echo” are immense for both the MCU and Disney+ streamer.
The Marvel installment centers on Indigenous deaf antihero Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox, who first appeared in 2021 Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” However, “Echo” will take a “grittier” approach to the Marvel storytelling, according to Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, TV, and animation at Marvel and an executive producer on the series.
“It is kind of a new direction for the brand, especially on Disney+,” Winderbaum said at a press event (via Variety).
“Echo” is the first Disney+ series rated TV-ma; the series will debut in its entirety, as opposed to typical Marvel weekly installments, on both Disney+ and Hulu, another first for both platforms. “Echo” marks the return of “Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio ahead of the new Daredevil Disney+ series which is currently in flux amid a series of reshoots and...

Don’t you just hate it when you shoot your uncle in a fit of rage, presumably killing him, only for it to turn out that he’s very much alive and actually pretty annoyed about the whole thing? Admittedly, it’s not the kind of malarkey that happens every day. Unless you are Maya ‘Echo’ Lopez, and your uncle is Wilson ‘Kingpin’ Fisk, that is. Yes, the fallout to that shocking :a[Hawkeye]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/tv/reviews/hawkeye/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} season finale is finally almost upon us, as Echo prepares to land on Disney+. The Marvel series “Echo” — which debuted its inaugural trailer on Friday and premieres on Jan. 10 — contains several firsts for the company. It’s the first Marvel Studios production that will debut simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu, the first that will have every episode available to binge at once and the first that will be rated TV-ma. And most importantly to director and executive producer Sydney Freeland (“Reservation Dogs”), it is the first superhero series ever to center on a deaf and a Native American character: Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), who made her debut in the 2021 series “Hawkeye.”
“Representation was extremely important to myself and to everyone on the crew,” Freeland said at a press event for the series in October, where she was joined by executive producer Brad Winderbaum. Marvel has set the Disney+ premiere dates for the second season of “Loki” with Tom Hiddleston and the “Hawkeye” spinoff series “Echo,” studio chief Kevin Feige announced during the Disney Upfront on Tuesday.
The Season 2 premiere of “Loki” will debut Oct. 6. A month later, in a first for a Marvel series, all episodes of “Echo” will release at once on Nov. 29.
Feige touted that “Loki” will be the studio’s “first ever second season,” returning to the story of Hiddleston’s god of mischief and his timeline hopping entanglements from Season 1. While the mogul also played up the return of costars Owen Wilson and Sophia Dimartino, as well as the appearance of Oscar-winning “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star Ke Huy Quan, Feige did not mention that Jonathan Majors is also expected to appear in Season 2, reprising his performance as one of the variants of the Marvel villain Kang from...

The official trailer for “Echo,” the Disney+ series starring Alaqua Cox as the titular hero, has been unveiled. The trailer was introduced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on Saturday at the D23 Expo.
The “Echo” footage, which was exclusive to those in the room at D23, included subtitles, shots of Native people and tons of Echo (Cox) kicking ass. At the very end of the first-look video, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin returns and is wearing an eyepatch.
The show is a spinoff of last year’s Marvel series “Hawkeye,” which featured Cox as Echo, aka Maya Lopez, in a supporting role. Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada in 1999 as a supporting character for the superhero Daredevil, Maya Lopez is a deaf Cheyenne woman with expert athletic skills and the ability to perfectly copy people’s movement. No surprise here to hear that Vincent D’Onofrio’s bad guy Kingpin will be starring in Disney+/Marvel’s Hawkeye spinoff Echo, as well as Charlie Cox’s famed Daredevil. We’ve confirmed.
Kingpin is the guardian to deaf superhero Echo aka Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), however, he killed her father. In the finale of Hawkeye, Echo goes after the big guy. After Kingpin survives a car crashing into him, and blasts from trick arrows, we hear Echo firing a gun at him, but it’s all off screen. Did he survive? Sounds like he did. In Echo, Maya returns to New York as a gang leader and reconnects with her Native American roots.
D’Onofrio told Deadline after the Hawkeye finale, “I hope he didn’t die” regarding Kingpin’s possible death. “I’m with the fans, I want to keep playing this part. My hope is that we continue.

Marvel Studios has some devilish plans in store for Echo, the upcoming Disney+ series currently filming in Atlanta.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who portrayed classic Marvel Comics characters Daredevil and The Kingpin, respectively, have joined the series, which stars Hawkeye breakout Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez. Marvel had no comment.
The move is the latest sign of Marvel Studios’ efforts to weave in popular characters from Netflix’s now-defunct Marvel shows such as Daredevil into the fold. Sources say Echo will include a plotline in which Daredevil, whose alter ego is blind attorney Matt Murdoch, is searching out a former ally. Podcast The Weekly Planet has reported that ally is Jessica Jones, another Marvel character who toplined her own Netflix series and was played by Krysten Ritter. If Ritter as Jones does indeed make an appearance in Echo, that would leave Luke Cage,...

The news was confirmed on Monday night by South Australian Premier Steven Marshall, who described the trailblazing actor as a “once-in-a-generation artist”.
“It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of an iconic, once-in-a-generation artist who shaped the history of Australian film and Aboriginal representation on screen – David Dalaithngu Am,” he wrote in a statement.

“My thoughts are with his family, and his dear friend and carer Mary Hood.”

Melbourne-based private film finance group Elevate Production Finance has hired Shana Levine as head of production investment.
Levine joins other recent recruits in London-based film financier and producer Charles Auty, who is COO, and Brisbane-based entertainment and finance lawyer Ted Cawrey, who is head of legal and business affairs.
Epf MD Craig McMahon said Levine’s appointment would now mean the company could provide “superior end-to-end service to productions”.
Since launching in 2017, Elevate has helped fund a number of Australian and international films, including George Miller’s Three Thousand Years Of Longing; Rich Lee’s War Of The Worlds starring Eva Longoria; Liam-Neeson starrer Blacklight; Sophia Banks’ debut feature Black Site; and Film Nation’s Misanthrope, directed by Damián Szifron.
During the height of Covid-19, the company, which is backed by Australian and international institutions and private equity, reassessed its protocols to provide debt funding to productions despite the pandemic.
