After calling off a proxy fight with Disney in February, activist investor Nelson Peltz is back with a renewed push for a seat on the company’s board — with some added firepower from former Marvel Entertainment chairman Ike Perlmutter.
Peltz and his firm Trian Fund Management previously called on Disney leadership to make changes to its corporate governance, strategy and operations and capital allocation. Specific asks have included developing a succession plan and aligning compensation with performance, cutting costs and reinstating Disney’s dividend by fiscal year 2025.
The latest challenge from Peltz and Perlmutter comes as Disney CEO Bob Iger continues to face a myriad of challenges, including a declining linear business and an unprofitable streaming platform. Iger also is engaged in a search for both a successor and permanent chief financial officer. The House of Mouse has embarked on a massive cost-cutting initiative and is even considering selling off assets.

Lea Michele, the star of Funny Girl, ends her stay today in the Broadway revival. She noted the milestone with an Instagram post that touted the show’s recoupment of its $16.5 million capitalization.
“For the past year, I’ve had the honor and privilege of playing the iconic Fanny Brice in Funny Girl on the August Wilson Stage,” she wrote. “An opportunity my younger self could have only dreamed of. And did.”
The musical opened in April 2022 at the August Wilson Theatre, starring Beanie Feldstein in the title role of Fanny Brice. Although fans initially showed great enthusiasm and ticket-buying, critics and Tony Award nominators found her performance lackluster, and the production soon saw a drop-off in sales. Feldstein made an unusually public leaving of the show, and was immediately replaced by producers with Glee star Lea Michele, who had her own strong fan base and who wowed critics. Box office receipts surged.

Denis Dercourt is by no means an A-lister in the realm of French cinema, but he nevertheless made some career, both at home and abroad in Germany, especially with his 2006 Cannes title “The Page Turner”. With last year’s “The Vanished” (somewhere already released as “Vanishing”), Dercourt tried to bring his career on a new level by adapting the novel “The Killing House” of a renowned British crime fiction author Peter May in a French-Korean co-production set in Seoul. After the premiere at last year’s Busan, some minor festival bookings and limited theatrical and online releases, it is now released globally on various digital platforms.
The Vanished is now available on Digital Platforms
The topic is set in an opening sequence. A bulky man (Choi Moo-seong) goes to an underground surgical facility from which he picks up a heavy load in suitcases. The facility itself turns out to be a mob-operated organ harvesting point,...

Thursday saw the world premiere of the French-made, Korea-set romantic thriller, “Vanishing” at the Busan International Film Festival. Its director Denis Dercourt said that the movie attempts to straddle both cultures.
Adapted from the Peter May novel, “The Killing Room,” the script was in the works for eleven years, according to Alexis Dantec, the film’s producer. Originally slated for launch in 2020, filming was delayed due to the pandemic.
The picture stars Olga Kurylenko, best known for her Bond girl performance in “Quantum of Solace,” and Korea’s Yoo Yeon Seok, whose most recent works include films “Steel Rain 2: Summit” and “New Year Blues,” and Ye Ji-won.
The story follows a forensic scientist (played by Kurylenko) who invented a technique for restoration of damaged corpses. She visits Korea for a conference and upon the request of a Korean police detective (played by Yoo), assists in an investigation. That leads...

Shares of Comcast jumped Tuesday after activist investor Nelson Peltz’ firm Trian Partners said it’s acquired a stake in the media giant and considers it undervalued.
The stock was up nearly 3% in a flat-to-down market late morning. Trian has acquired 20 million shares — or an 0.4% stake — in the NBCUniversal parent.
A Trian spokesperson said the firm “believes Comcast’s stock is undervalued. We have recently begun what we believe are constructive discussions with Comcast’s management team and look forward to continuing those discussions.”
Comcast declined to comment on Trian’s stake, news of which emerged Monday.
So, it’s not clear what the “constructive discussions” entail. Comcast like most companies has been slammed by Covid. But it’s been streamlining and cutting costs in media and entertainment. With broadband continuing to grow, sports back and advertising off its lows, CEO Brian Roberts was upbeat about prospects at a media conference last week.

Queen fans got a fresh look at Rami Malek’s take on legendary rockstar Freddie Mercury in the new trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody, which dropped Tuesday. [Editor’s Note: The below interview includes spoilers for “American Vandal” Season 1.]
When you think about it, “American Vandal” could have only ended one way. Like its many docuseries predecessors, the question of Dylan Maxwell’s (Jimmy Tatro) innocence or guilt may have powered the story forward, but as the show fleshed out characters like amateur sleuth Peter Maldonado, his partner in videography Sam Ecklund (Griffin Gluck), or the multitude of students and teachers who make this universe, there was always room to make the season’s ending something less tangible.
In the farewell episode, Twitch-based evidence leads Dylan to be exonerated in the minds of Peter and the school powers that threatened his expulsion in the first place. But if Dylan wasn’t the one who drew the dicks, who was?
For fans of true crime documentaries, “We may never know” isn’t just an appropriate answer, it’s the only one that made sense for a series that pays tribute to the classics.

If you've been wanting to get a good long look at the Spider-Man armor suit that Tony Stark offered Peter Parker at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, here ya go!
Peter may have turned it down in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but he's definitely going to put it on when he goes up against Thanos and the Black Order! In the footage screened of Avengers: Infinity War at D23 and Comic-Con, there was some great action-packed footage of Spider-Man kicking ass in the suit.
I've seen a lot of mixed reaction on this suit design. I personally think it's pretty cool. But after getting a good look at it here, what do you think? Do ya love it? Hate it? Or are you not sure what to think?
It's still a little too different from what I'm used to seeing but It'll grow on me I'm sure pic.twitter.com/Ntuann831d...

This story arc has so far been outstanding stuff. Full of fabulously snarky dialogue, police procedural, magic, and a generous dose of humour and tongue firmly planted in cheek. The black mould of the title is a supernatural substance, a ‘class war evil supernatural black fungus’ as Sahra Guleed, Peter Grants colleague, amusingly calls it. Why so? The black mould only seems to be targeting the rich and heartless, and also only in buildings owned by the Wellcome Matt company. We left Peter at the end of last issue investigating one of those properties, with the small matter of a gang of thugs coming at him.
Peter of course is nothing if not resourceful, and a little dip in his bag of magic sorts out those thugs… as well as a well...

Okay, film fans let’s get serious. Really serious now. It’s September, so we’re done with all that summertime fluff. Though we’ll see another flick set in that galaxy far, far away in just a couple months, it’s now the season for those sober, somber awards contenders. And what better award bait than a literary adaptation. Y’know, bringing a big best-selling book to the big screen. This weekend another classy tome heads into theatres with The Light Between The Oceans. Oh, and the flick we’re about to discuss stars an actor who became the talk of the planet with his role in a steamy novel-turned-movie just last year. But’s what’s with this whimsical title, you may ask. Well, it may sound like a children’s story (like The Bfg) or even a “young adult” novel, but its focus quickly shifts to deceiving...

Spider-Man was a bit of a work in progress in Captain America: Civil War. When Stark found the young New Yorker, Peter Parker was pretty much running around in pajamas. It didn't take long for Stark to give Peter a much-needed costume upgrade. This seems to be a trend that will continue in Spidey's first solo outing, Spider-man: Homecoming.
As we know, Robert Downey Jr. is set to make yet another appearance as Tony Stark in the film, and if a recent image is any indication, it looks like Peter may be getting yet another web-shooters upgrade.
Take a look at the hi-res photo below, courtesy of Atlanta Filming.
Admittedly, the differences are pretty minute. If you compare the photo at the top of the page with the one directly above, there's hardly a difference at first glance. After looking it over, the difference seems to mostly be in texture,...

A Spectacular, Speculative Dive Into Peter Parker’s Future on the Big Screen.
As most of you who would be reading this already know, Sony officially announced the John Watts-helmed reboot of their oft-troubled Spider-Man franchise at Cinema Con in Las Vegas in mid-April. The much-anticipated film is titled Spider-Man: Homecoming, and with that title announcement comes the expected flood of questions and, naturally, no real answers other than a few named cast members and some comments from the filmmakers about the tone of the film. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man made his debut in this weekend’s Captain America: Civil War, giving us an idea of which version of Peter Parker we’ll be getting in Homecoming but providing nothing in the way of what we might be seeing from him in the future. Since we know little else, let’s engage in some irresponsible guesswork.
What does Homecoming mean?

Witty is coming! Peter Dinklage is hosting "Saturday Night Live" for the first time on April 2, with Gwen Stefani as musical guest. Dinklage plays brilliant badass Tyrion Lannister on "Game of Thrones," which is launching its sixth season on April 24, and you can see the Emmy winner bring his sardonic humor to these SNL promos.
The series of clips just follow Peter and Cecily Strong looking out the window of the NYC building.
Check 'em out:
In the first clip, they note that it's a nice day outside. You know what spring means? Peter stares into the camera: "Summer is coming." But he and Cecily agree that it's not quite as scary as "Winter is coming," and Peter barely even attempts "Autumn is coming" before giving up.
In a more flirtatious promo, Cecily says the flags outside are very beautiful. Peter looks in her eyes and agrees. "They are very beautiful.

The above exchange from Frank Capra's romantic gem It Happened One Night doesn't necessarily give you any insight into the plot. Without the knowledge of what came before, or the visual of Claudet Colbert as spoiled sophisticate Ellie Andrews warily climbing into the car with the man she's traveled alongside from Florida to New York City, the joke probably doesn't pack much of an umph. But once you've seen this 1935 Best Picture winner as many times as I have, you never know which lines will jump out and make you laugh more than you previously did in the past. It Happened One Night is one of those wonderful Hollywood accidents. Neither Colbert nor her co-star, Clark Gable, were the first choices for the lead roles. In fact, it wasn't until Colbert won for Best Actress that she publicly thanked Capra for making the film (despite not even attending the Oscars,...

Exclusive: Bradley Cooper may have been snubbed by the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild, but Broadway and the West End love him. When his lauded performance as John Merrick, Aka the Elephant Man, completes its limited run at the Booth Theatre on February 22, Cooper and the rest of the show’s accomplished cast will get a few weeks off before reuniting for a 12-week run in London that will begin, two production sources tell me, in April.
The producers—including both the Shubert and Nederlander theater-owning organizations, along with (take a deep breath) Terry Allen Kramer, Catherine Adler, Roger Berlind, Caiola Productions, Patrick Catullo, Larry Hirschhorn, Jeffrey Finn Productions, Van Kaplan, Edward M. Kaufmann, Hal Luftig, Arielle Tepper Madover, Peter May, Stephanie P. McClelland, Douglas Smith, Jonathan M. Bradley Cooper‘s “The Elephant Man” on Broadway broke its own box office record — again — and recouped capitalization costs after just six-and-a-half weeks of performances.
The cap costs totaled $3.1 million, which were officially recouped following the week of Dec. 21. The following week, the production broke its own house box office record, grossing $1,058,547. It was the first show at the Booth Theatre to rake in more than $1 million in a week.
Cooper concurrently has a limited-release film hit with “American Sniper.”

Season 1 introduced Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) to the mysterious world of werewolves and hunters. Season 2 expands the mystical world to include other creatures, such as the Kanima, and explored the difficulty of creating an Alpha pack as Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) tried to recruit and create new members for his pack. Then in Season 3 the sleepy town of Beacon Hills got really crowded as many forms of werewolves and other worldly creatures seemed to descend upon it. There were suddenly werewolves, hunters, druids, a banshee and two Alphas that can join together to make a super werewolf. Everywhere you looked something dangerous was lurking around every dark corner.
Thus, it became more important than ever that Scott and Derek work together, along with their myriad of friends and allies to fight off the evil beings seeking to kill anyone they wanted to accomplish their sinister goals. Especially with the Darach (Haley Webb) collecting guardians,...

Heather Croall is the director of Sheffield Doc/Fest and longtime friend of filmmaker, journalist, festival programmer and mentor Peter Wintonick, who passed away Monday morning in Montreal. Croall offered Indiewire this beautiful essay on her experiences sharing Wintonick's final days, and it was our great pleasure to publish it. Seven weeks ago Peter Wintonick Skyped me. He had been diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. I said, "I'll come and see you in Montreal." He said, "Well, I've had an idea. We've been all over the world Heather but we've never been to Cuba. I've never been to Cuba, you've never been to Cuba. So Let's Go To Cuba!" I said, "Ok, we'll go to Cuba." In the background of the Skype I heard his partner Christine call out from across the room, "come over!" She said it in a very very matter-of-fact way, nothing urgent or dramatic in the tone,...

"White Collar" returns for its fifth season on Thursday (Oct. 17) and stars Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay tease that we will see Peter in prison, the Dutchman is a great bad guy and that the season is all about Neal trying to do his best against long odds.
The episode, titled "At What Price," opens with Peter in prison and Neal's focus is to get him out because he's being framed for a murder that Neal's father actually committed.
"This season for Neal is about best intentions gone awry. He's feeling the sins of the father and has to skirt issues of trust to try to find some wiggle room to make reparations for what ultimately was his fault in terms of Peter's future as an FBI agent, as a husband," says Bomer.
In order to help Peter, Neal makes a Faustian bargain with the Dutchman, a.k.a. Curtis...

Stop denying who you really are and all will become clear.
That turned out to be quite a challenge for the "Lost Girl" and her team as they wandered through the jungle in search of their lost boy on Once Upon a Time this week.
Peter Pan gave Emma the tools she needed to find Henry. Why not just show her Henry? Because this is all a giant game to him, and they need to play it by his rules.
But when Emma struggled with figuring out who she really was, I couldn't really blame Regina for resorting to magic to light their way. If it were my child, I'm not sure I could hold back either. Of course it didn't work. There always seems to be consequences when it comes to using magic.
Eventually Snow was able to help Emma look deep within herself and come up with the answer.

In Jeff's spoiler tease, he told them, "Peter may find that Scott is a more powerful ally and needs him ... or he may go after him. I like the idea that he might go after Scott. That remains to be seen." In related news, we also learned that Lydia is going to learn how to control her wicked banshee powers. Jeff explained, "You'll see her learn how to control it, find out...

Executive producer Jeff Davis drops five major teases, ranging from Peter’s motives to Allison’s future with Isaac!
It’s hard to believe we have nearly five months to wait until the second half of Teen Wolf‘s third season — especially after the summer finale left us with so many questions — but thankfully, executive producer Jeff Davis understands our plight. In a new interview with ETOnline, he teases some things we can expect in Jan. 2014, including the biggest threat to Scott (Tyler Posey) and his friends. And it might surprise you!
Peter Vs. Scott
Though the final scene of the summer finale appeared to paint Peter (Ian Bohen) as 2014′s main threat, Jeff says we shouldn’t be so quick to fear him.
“Peter is mostly intent on gaining his pride and status back,” Jeff explains. “I wouldn’t call him the big bad, but he is certainly an antagonist.

First I want to say that I have been a Doctor Who fan since the early ’80′s when Tom Baker was my Doctor. Over the past decades, I have been a loyal and cheerleading fan, loving each reincarnation of the Fourth Doctor through the Eleventh Doctor. I also remain optimistic about the Twelfth Doctor, who was just recently announced as being portrayed by Peter Capaldi. But tempering my excitement over the recent casting choice was the realization that Doctor Who made the wrong choice. With lots of factions vying for the first female or non-white Doctor, there was certainly a lot of interest in stepping outside of the box in choosing who would portray the Twelfth Doctor. There was also a lot of interest in keeping the role youth-oriented.

Oh, Alicia! She's a mess, isn't she?
The last few weeks have been rough on this good wife. She's struggled with her feelings for Will and questioned whether Lockhart/Gardner is the firm for her.
In "What's in the Box?," Alicia made a decision, but not the one she probably should have made first. It's a good thing that The Good Wife has already been renewed for season 5, considering that cliffhanger.
I fell without question for the finale door open twist. I assumed that Alicia called Will and that they would finally have their talk. I should have known better since The Good Wife is always pulling tricks like that, but the wine, the music and the self-doubt was more in line with making a romantic versus career decision. I was taken by my overwhelming desire for Alicia and Will to finally discuss their feelings.

Creating a horror television show is a tricky feat. It requires balancing the right amount of shock-and-gore along with compelling characters to keep fans clamoring for more – and Netflix’s Hemlock Grove delivers on both. Helmed by horror master Eli Roth and based on the terrifying world created in Brian McGreevly’s book, Hemlock Grove weaves together characters that raise the hair on the back of your neck yet draw you in deeper and deeper into a supernatural mystery story.
When a young teenage girl is found mauled to death, fear and suspicions abound as a gypsy boy (Landon Liboiron) is rumored to be a werewolf. Peter and his mother (Lili Taylor) had recently moved to Hemlock Grove in hopes of settling there after his uncle’s death; but their heritage makes them unwelcome in a community that seeks to keep its deep, dark secrets buried. We're still not ready to say goodbye to "Fringe," but we're going to have to get used to the idea -- there's only one more episode left before the two-hour finale event airs on January 18. Zap2it just got a sneak peek at the next new episode, "The Boy Must Live," which will air on January 11.
In the most recent episode, we barely had time to recover from Nina's death when it was revealed that Donald, Walter's mysterious partner in his quest to save the world, was actually September, our favorite Observer. In "The Boy Must Live," some of the biggest questions about September are finally answered when we reunite with the one who started it all.
The episode is best described as a gift to longtime fans of the show, returning to the core themes of the first season and packed with callbacks to memorable early moments, of both the heartwarming and heartbreaking variety.

A possible theme for the season, if not the show itself, emerged in this week’s episode of Fringe: love might not be enough to stop certain men from becoming the very worst they can be.
When Walter had the pieces of his brain put back in after he was de-ambered, he realized that the hubris and the God-like tendencies that caused him to almost destroy two universes were coming back. But as he told Nina in this episode, he thought his love for Peter could stop his backslide into evil scientist land. And yet it doesn’t seem like enough, as he asks Nina to re-remove those pieces again. (We don’t get to see her answer, however.)

Lemond Bishop's back!
Despite his drug dealing business, in "Waiting for the Knock," Bishop came across as a normal guy and loving father who makes sandwiches for his son's lunch. Regardless of how sympathetic he appeared, he was in deep trouble that only got worse.
When Bishop's accountant was arrested, his attorneys got involved to find out if he was a target. Diane and Alicia were there to represent his legitimate businesses, while Leslie from the firm that handled his illegal businesses was involved as well.
They started with the financials to see what the accountant could have found. The best part was when the Trustee got involved. He was a financial wizard and realized that the numbers didn't add up. I love this guy. With Cary's recommendation that he help out in Family Law, I could easily see the Trustee taking a job at Lockhart/Gardner when the bankruptcy is over.

Kanye West has convinced the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to buy his Friedrich Nietzsche defense and affirm the dismissal of a copyright lawsuit that alleged he stole his 2007 hit song "Stronger" from another songwriter. Vincent Peters sued the hip hop artist, claiming he sent a copy of his own "Stronger" to John Monopoly, a business manager and close friend of West. In a decision on Monday, the appeals court finds that while Peter may have alleged that West had an opportunity to copy his song, the plaintiff hasn't supported his contention that the songs shared enough similarity.
