"You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier." Hollywood screenwriter Gary Whitta has revealed a special pitch trailer "sizzle reel" that they created for The Last Starfigher sequel already in development (tentatively) called The Last Starfighters. This trailer features concept art with a score and a tiny bit of dialogue from the original shown at the end. Whitta originally dropped some of the concept on Twitter back in 2018, so we've seen most of this stuff before, but there are a few new images added in this trailer. Plus it's just thrilling to see all the art (by Matt Allsopp) with the music (by Chris Tilton & Craig Safan). Whitta was developing this project with Jonathan Betuel, the same screenwriter on the original cult classic 1984 sci-fi film. The concept for this sequel is said to involve Alex returning again, but no exact plot details have ever been revealed.

“Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada.”
For those of you who remember seeing director Nick Castle’s sci-fi gem in theaters during the summer of 1984, those words are ingrained in your memory!
The Last Startfighter tells the story Alex Rogan (Lance Guest), an arcade game whizz-kid whose wildest dreams comes true when he finds himself enlisted to fight in an interstellar war. The movie also starred Dan O’Herlihy, Catherine Mary Stewart and the great Robert Preston as “Centauri”. It’s still a fun, great film to watch!
Now screenwriter Gary Whitta has revealed the sizzle reel for The Last Starfighters, the sequel which fans have long been waiting for.

Another extremely pretty indie title is making its way to PlayStation 4 in 2016. Tuba Studios founder Chris Tilton describes Divide as a science fiction adventure game with a dash of thriller thrown in for good measure, all combining to make a story that, Tilton says, is discovered “through an atmospheric dungeon crawl.”
Going into further detail on Sony’s PlayStation blog, Tilton said:
Something we really enjoy about Divide is the process of discovering the story through an atmospheric dungeon crawl. Opening locked doors, breaking into long-abandoned computer systems, and rummaging through dimly lit complexes make up the bulk of the experience. The main character, David, voiced by Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do, Southland), comes from our world, and when he is swept into the momentum of the story, he knows as much as the player.

ComicCon offers all kinds of experiences for attendees. You can stay completely in the world of film or immerse yourself in comics or even spend the weekend exploring tutorials and self-help panels. This year, due to a number of factors and in a pleasant surprise, my Con ended up being very music-heavy. I had the opportunity to talk with several film and television composers about their work, their process, and what being a composer in this industry means.
Versatility is essential for a career in film and television composition, given the range of projects out there. One composer I spoke with, iZLER, is currently working on Revenge and Shameless. Another, Chris Tilton, recently finished composing the music for the revamp of The Sims (mostly orchestral) and is currently at work on the new fall series Almost Human (mostly electronic). Not only do composers need the flexibility to seamlessly transition from...

Comic Con hasn’t been strictly superheroes in a long, long time. We have scoured the schedule for this year’s event and have pulled out the dark, the bloody, the monstrous, and the ghostly panels that look to be right up FEARnet readers’s alley.
Paranormal Passion Panel
Authors discuss the inclusion of romantic elements in their action-packed novels. Protagonists must battle the forces of evil while trying to keep the world (and often their lovers) safe from destruction. Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

With Sdcc 2013 kicking off soon, Preview Night details and the full schedule for Day 1 have arrived. We have some tough decisions to make as The Walking Dead comics take on "The X-Files" reunion and then the "Dexter," "Hannibal," and "Teen Wolf" panels go head-to-head.
Per usual, the abovementioned choices are just the tip of the iceberg for genre fans with panels running all day and evening on July 18th for paranormal novels, sexy steampunkers, horror gaming, horror novels, horror comics, horror journalists (including our own Heather Wixson!), composers, the ever present and popular zombies, The Goon feature film, and - in the last panel of the night - horror sitcom "Holliston." Fringe 4.19 "Letters Of Transit" Review
Co-written by Sam McPherson
As I’m writing this, my vision is a little blurry from the left-field suckerpunch that Fringe delivered with Friday night’s “Letters of Transit.” If you aren’t reeling from a bit of future shock, you probably didn’t watch the same episode. There’s so much packed into this episode that it’s impossible to tease out all the nuances after just one viewing: it’s remarkably telling that Leonard Nimoy’s surprising return to the show somehow wasn’t what people were most fixated on. Fringe constantly makes us consider cause and effect, the ripple effects of actions that we could never foresee. This has been demonstrated on countless occasions, from Walter’s crossing over in 1985, to Peter’s initialization of the machine, to September’s choices to interfere with the timelines. The bald enigma lurking in the background has,...

According to Music by Michael Giacchino, the composer has recently recorded music for the pilot of the new Fox drama Alcatraz. While Giacchino is scoring the pilot, Andrea Datzman will be writing the music for the rest of the season. Datzman previously co-scored last year’s J.J. Abrams-produced NBC drama Undercovers with Chris Tilton after Giacchino also scored the pilot. Alcatraz is created by Elizabeth Sarnoff (Lost, Deadwood) and stars Sarah Jones as a San Francisco detective involved in a grisly homicide case that takes her to America’s most infamous prison, where her prime suspect becomes an inmate who died more than 30 years before. Jorge Garcia (Lost), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) and Robert Forster (Jackie Brown) are co-starring. Bryan Burk and director Jack Bender (Lost) are producing alongside J.J. Abrams through his Bad Robots production company. The pilot is co-written by Sarnoff, Steven Lilien & Bryan Wynbrandt (Kyle Xy...

Hey Guys,
I just had an idea for a new feature for the website, where we will have listed all the people who are on twitter who are in the TV world. That place will be here in this post, and we can try to keep it up to date with all the latest shows and people joining from around the globe with connections to television.
Of course, I don't have the names and twitter accounts for all the people on twitter, but I've made a start and now you can send in all the twitter accounts you know of for us to add to the collection :)

Fringe 3x22 - In Which There Are No Happy Endings and Peter Doesn't Exist
A week later and my brain has finally been rewired after last week’s Mind-blowing Fringe finale. From the first five minutes to the last five seconds, I was enraptured. The last time I was this engaged by a season finale, an island disappeared. This time, it was a man…
Things That Made Me Happy:
The Beginning of the End - We began where we left off, with Peter catapulted 15 years into the future and rather severely injured. But with fancy future technology, he’s patched up real good and sent on his merry way into a world full of worm-holes, quarantined-zones, amber and terrorists. Welcome to 2026 folks!
The new, grey-opening titles added to the darker, apocalyptic feel, with words such as neural partitioning and thought-extraction replacing the familiar ones. Hope was also a new word.

Fringe has a great story in its own right, but like all television, sometimes that story needs a bit of an emotional boost. That's where the music of Fringe comes in.
The show has a sound all its own -- it's a unique mix of orchestral and synthetic scoring that mixes in synthesizers with strings to form a strangely tense sound that aids audiences in gripping their armrests whenever Olivia is close to catching a bad guy, or when Walter is making a breakthrough. It works for Fringe like it would for no other show, and that's why I love it so much.
Season one's soundtrack, which featured the J.J. Abrams-composed main title, was released back in April. Fans weren't sure when to expect a second set of songs until Chris Tilton, one of the show's resident composers, posted on Twitter today that we could expect the soundtrack for...

I don't believe I have ever reported the nominees for the International Film Music Critics Association before, but in the spirit of covering more award season news than is probably necessary I figured, "What the hell?" The nominees listed below make up the fifth annual International Film Music Critics Association Awards for Excellence with Wall-e receiving the most nominations including Film Score of the Year, Best Score for an Animated Film, Best Film Composition (for "Define Dancing") and Composer of the Year for Thomas Newman. The other big nominee is Danny Elfman who received the most individual nominations this year with seven: Composer of the Year; Film Score of the Year and Best Documentary Score for Standard Operating Procedure; Best Drama Score for Milk; Best Action/Adventure Score and Best Individual Cue for Wanted ("Success Montage"); and Best Fantasy/Science Fiction Score for Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
