- Led AFL in Pass Attempts (442) and Completions (186) in 1965.
- Named to AFL Pro Bowl 4 times (1961-1963 and 1967).
- Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1981.
- When he retired following the 1975 season, he held the record for scoring the most combined AFL/NFL points in history at 2,002. At the beginning of the 2017 season, he ranked 7th.
