Adam Crozier, the British executive who was previously CEO of ITV and the Football Association, will take over as chair of UK telecommunications outfit BT at the end of the year.
The move follows the resignation of Jan du Plessis from the role back in March. There was understood to be friction between du Plessis and Philip Jansen, BT’s chief executive.
Crozier is said to be the unanimous choice of the board. He will take up the role on December 1, joining the board the month before.
Headquartered in London, BT is the largest provider of fixed-line, broadband and mobile services in the UK, and also offers subscription TV services including BT Sport, which has rights to the UEFA Champions League soccer.
Crozier was at ITV plc between 2010 and 2017. His roles also include advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi and the Royal Mail.

ITV has ruled out the prospect of buying BT Sport in a sign that the commercial broadcaster is not overly enthusiastic about major acquisitions ahead of the UK government potentially putting Channel 4 up for sale.
Following the publication of ITV’s half-year earnings on Wednesday, CEO Carolyn McCall put an end to speculation that it is circling BT Sport, the Premier League broadcaster that was made available to buyers in April.
“We’ve been very focused on our balance sheet, we’re really very robust. We still see uncertainty ahead [amid the pandemic], it’s not the kind of acquisition we would do,” McCall told journalists on a media call.
An ITV spokeswoman would not comment on whether McCall’s remarks mean it is not interested in a target of Channel 4’s ilk. The chief executive told press she would not “speculate” on the future of Channel 4, but ITV has been touted...

When ITV CEO Carolyn McCall unveiled her strategy refresh late last year, content was one of three key pillars. That put ITV Studios firmly in the spotlight, and its boss, Julian Bellamy, is the exec tasked with delivering growth across the production business.
International expansion is in the cards, but on the home front, ITV Studios is coming off a banner year. As Bellamy speaks to Variety at ITV’s new digs in London’s Holborn district, where the company moved after vacating its previous home on the banks of the Thames, ratings figures have just landed.
Five shows made by production companies that are part of the ITV Studios stable – “Bodyguard,” “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here,” “Vera,” “Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway,” and long-running soap “Coronation Street” – were among the top 10 most-watched shows in the U.K. in 2018.

Cannes — ITV is joining the growing list of traditional media heavyweights looking to move aggressively into the direct-to-consumer subscription TV arena.
Carolyn McCall, ITV’s newly appointed CEO, made it clear that she sees the need for the U.K.’s largest commercial broadcaster to be a player in the streaming marketplace and to take advantage of the fan base generated by shows on the network and those produced by ITV Studios. McCall spoke Monday during the keynote conversation that kicked off the four-day Mipcom international TV sales conference.
“We wouldn’t be making the right shifts, looking at the world around us, if we weren’t doing something direct-to-consumer,” McCall told journalist and media commentator Kate Bulkley.
Since McCall took the CEO job in January, ITV has devoted more resources to data analytics and the art of understanding more about its viewers.

ITV, Britain’s biggest commercial broadcaster, saw revenues rise 5% year-on-year during its first quarter under the stewardship of new chief executive Carolyn McCall, the company reported Thursday. The company saw total external revenues for Q1 2018 hit £772 million ($1.04 billion), up from £734 million ($993.6 million) in the same period last year.
“We have started the year well both on and off screen, driven by 11% growth in ITV Studios revenue and 41% growth in online revenue,” said McCall (pictured), who took over as CEO of ITV in January, succeeding Adam Crozier.
“While the economic environment remains uncertain, online advertising continues to grow strongly,” McCall said. “We expect ITV total advertising to be up 2% over the first half, but profits will reflect the timing of the World Cup [soccer tournament]. Over the full year we are on track to deliver double-digit growth in online revenue and good organic revenue growth in ITV Studios.” Total advertising was up 3% in...

London - Executives of U.K. broadcaster ITV on Wednesday touted the success over the past two years of their plan to transform the company's business, but also emphasized that the TV firm has a long way to go. They also lauded the improving creative fortunes of ITV Studios. However, "we are absolutely not declaring victory." CEO Adam Crozier later echoed that sentiment. "We have made good progress," he said. "We are always

ITV's chief executive Adam Crozier has taken a swipe at BBC One's new Saturday night entertainment show The Voice. In a discussion about entertainment formats, Crozier claimed that he was looking for a new programme that moved away in style from hits such as Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor. "Of course Britain's Got Talent and X Factor are important programmes on the entertainment side," Crozier told journalists. "A lot of these shows have been running for some time and it is sensible to look at new ideas. The last two or three years there really hasn't been anything new around. Probably only The Voice and even that is a derivative of some of the shows around." He added: "In the last 10 to 15 years there has not been that many breakthrough ideas. The UK’s ITV has announced a new 10-part drama series in a move that looks to build on the mega-success of its Downton Abbey. Mr. Selfridge will trace the life of the flamboyant and visionary American entrepreneur, Harry Gordon Selfridge, who created the famed London department store Selfridge’s. Contrary to Downton, which is made by NBCUniversal’s Carnival Films, Mr. Selfridge will be an in-house ITV Studios production. Created by writer Andrew Davies (Brideshead Revisted, Bridget Jones’ Diary), Mr. Selfridge is set in London in 1909 at a time when wealthy women were enjoying a new sense of freedom. ‘Mile a Minute Harry’ wanted to indulge, empower and celebrate these women; making shopping as thrilling as sex, according to ITV. Based on the book Shopping, Seduction And Mr Selfridge by Lindy Woodhead, the series will shine a light on hidden moments of the history of women through fashion, cosmetics,...

ITV has reportedly contacted Apple to warn the Us firm against using the "iTV" branding for its much-rumoured new smart television product. Adam Crozier, the chief executive of ITV, initially raised the issue with Apple when he took over at the commercial broadcaster in 2010. This followed speculation that Apple would follow the iPod, iPhone and iPad model when it eventually took a significant stride into the television market. According to The Daily Telegraph, ITV received assurances at the time from Apple that it did not intend to use the branding, at least in the UK. But insiders fear that the company could take a different position under the leadership of Tim Cook, who took over as chief executive last year shortly before the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
