Rico Petrocelli
Rico Petrocelli was an All-Star short-stop and third baseman for the
Boston Red Sox who anchored the infield in 1967, when the Sox won their
"Impossible Dream" pennant behind the torrid hitting of teammate
Carl Yastrzemski and the Cy
Young-winning hurling of pitcher
Jim Lonborg. Petrocelli was named to the
American League All-Star team that year as short-stop, and in 1969,
when he set the A.L. record for most home runs for a short-stop with
40. He played 13 season for the Red Sox, and appeared in the 1975 World
Series as a third-baseman. He retired after the 1976 season and took up
a career in sports broadcasting.
