From Thomas F Wilson in Back To The Future to Nicolas Cage and John Travolta in Face/Off - when actors play multiple roles...
The dramatic use of actors playing multiple characters is a bold and rather theatrical device that has its ups and downs. It goes at least as far back as Captain Hook being played by the same actor who plays the Darling children's father in stage productions of Peter Pan, a technique largely adopted in film adaptations of the story, too (hello to Jason Isaacs).
It's used a lot in cinema too. Done well, it's impressive, but when it's bad, it's Jack & Jill. Whether used in comedy or drama or outright horror, there are countless examples of actors delivering terrific performances in more than one role at once, and that's before we even get past Cloud Atlas. Still, we've had a go at totting up 25 of the best.

We're about to find out, so join us from 8pm when the show begins as we bring you all the action from the show...
21:13Right, though - that's your lot for tonight's show! Make sure you stay with DS for all the X Factor coverage you need and we'll see you tomorrow for more auditions...

Movie merchandise is big business. But some people will try and slap the name of The Avengers or Batman on anything...
Cool film stuff can be almost as fun as actually going to the movies. Think of a Batman cape, an Arnold Schwarzenegger action figure, or Goldeneye on the N64. Hell, the merchandising can often be more enjoyable than the actual film – remember how much fun the first few months of 1999 were before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was actually released?
Yet, in the chase to make a quick buck out of devoted fans, some... let's just say less relevant, movie merchandise is churned out and flogged to the public.
Here then are 50 of the strangest (not ranked in order!) – expect action figures of obscure henchmen, 16-carat gold Twilight jewellery and some truly vomit-inducing burgers…

Audrina Patridge is looking a little blue! "The Hills" alum was spotted at Comic-Con on Friday, sporting a head-to-toe Mystique costume. She took to Instagram to share a few snapshots of herself as she transformed into the "X-Men" character. "Before and almost after #comiccon 2014," she wrote with one cosplay pic. The reality star showed her dedication by painting most of her body blue like the shape-shifting character, portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence in the most recent films.Sporting a white outfit, cherry red wig, and lime green contacts, the brunette beauty looked confident posing with Comic-Con attendees, who also went all-out in fantasy-inspired costumes.Patridge participated in the event to help out makeup artist Cig Neutron, a season 7 contestant on SyFy's "Face-Off."The former "Hills" star wasn't the only one who went all out this year though.Adrianne Curry, who's become kind of a geek goddess over the past couple years,...

The euphoria of an all-night concert — the crazy hook-ups, the booze and, of course, the killer music — is the kind of larger-than-life, emotionally charged scene that movies are made for.
So it’s no surprise that chasing that feeling led director and co-writer Alexander Mirecki to film All Together Now, which premieres Saturday at the L.A. Film Festival.
“For the longest time I had been interested in a narrative that had progressed in almost real time, where you didn’t take a huge chunk of time and try and condense it,” Mirecki explained on the phone with EW. “The...

So far, American Horror Story: Asylum has been chugging along at a pretty consistent rate. There’s been a surprise here, a twist there, and just enough mystery to string audiences along with the brilliant characters. Last week’s episode, the first part of the I Am Anne Frank run, hinted at a few nice developments, but never really changed what the show was going for.
But holy cow, did part two step up and knock it out of the park. This is an absolute game changer of an episode, providing so many left turns that it’s impossible to tell just where American Horror Story: Asylum will go from here. Pretty much every question that we’ve had so far has either been answered, leaving more questions then we began with, or just made to be more intriguing. There wasn’t a dull moment to be had, and a...

Bryan Fuller is planning for his upcoming drama Hannibal to cross over with Wonderfalls. Chelan Simmons, who was recently seen on The L.A. Complex, will reprise her role as Gretchen Speck-Horowitz. This won't be the first time a Wonderfalls character appeared in another one of Fuller's shows. Beth Grant also brought her Wonderfalls character to a 2008 episode of Pushing Daisies. I think that means it's time we started debating what we should call the various shows that are a part the Wonderfalls universe — the Fullerverse? the Wonderverse? Also, someone let me know when there's fanfic of Clarice Starling, Jaye Tyler and Olive Snook solving crimes together.
Bones is planning a dance-themed episode with a role for this season's So You Think You Can Dance winners.

The role call of seventh-place finishers on American Idol ranges from the back-to-back eyes-wide-open nightmares of Sanjaya Malakar and Kristy Lee Cook in Seasons 6 and 7 to the remarkable success story of Season 3 Wild Card Jennifer Hudson, who overcame the Pepto-Bismol Dress From Hell to scale Oscar- and Grammy-winning heights. In between those two extremes, though, the not-so-lucky No. 7 spot has been occupied by singers who showed early promise, then flamed out (Anwar Robinson, Kimberly Caldwell) and those whose “package artist” good looks carried them further than their vocal abilities might’ve otherwise suggested (Ryan Starr, Tim Urban, Ace Young). "I'd never get used to the meetings. I hate talk. I don't know how to talk."
John Woo was describing the difference between working in Asia and in Hollywood when he made a point to laugh at his own inability to adapt. It's not an alien trait in creative types, who are typically more adept at invention than negotiation. Though he seemed reluctant to criticize the American film industry, Woo had nothing good to say about it, either. One only had to look at the dip in quality in the director's filmography to suspect that he never fully adjusted.
Now having taken a productive six-year respite, he returns to America with a film called Red Cliff, brought back from his Chinese sojourn. It shouldn't surprise any of his fans that it shows a long-awaited return to form.

Chicago – The second week of The 45th Chicago Film Festival kicks off tonight (or tomorrow depending on how you look at the fest that runs from the 8th to the 22nd) and the upcoming weekend features just as much and arguably more interesting films unspooling at the AMC River East than the first. Highlights include one of the best animated films of the year, a bittersweet romance starring two living legends, a remastered classic, and works from a few of the best voices in international cinema today.
We’ve worked our way through dozens of films this year, but even we couldn’t get to all of them and a few weren’t even shown in the screening room in time for our deadline. So this week’s Ciff preview works a little differently. The first page features the best of what we’ve seen. Take our word. These are worth your time.

Since America's Next Top Model host Tyra Banks announced that the upcoming season would be offering spots to young women 5' 7" and under, the decision has been met with some sharp criticism. Vogue recently discussed the new height requirements, saying it has been met with strong "derision from the American fashion community." But Tyra is not one to take criticism sitting down, Ok! Magazine reports. At the 20th annual GLAAD media awards in New York, Banks addressed the criticism, noting, "The majority of the fashion industry is about tall girls, but the majority of the fashion industry is not about.
