In a competitive situation, Apple has acquired the rights to Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s upcoming novel Long Island Compromise to develop as a series.
Just like she did with the FX adaptation of her debut novel, Fleishman Is In Trouble, Brodesser-Akner will write Long Island Compromise, which she will executive produce with Richard Plepler through his Apple-based Eden Productions as well Fleishman Is In Trouble executive producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly of Timberman/Beverly Productions and Susannah Grant.
Ahead of its July 9, 2024 publication by Random House, Long Island Compromise created a stir when it hit the TV marketplace earlier this year. Multiple studios pursued the book, with bids involving as much as $1M upfront, before the actual deal is negotiated.
In the end, the property, with Brodesser-Akner and her Fleishman Is In Trouble collaborators Timberman, Beverly and Grant, landed at Apple. For Timberman/Beverly, the project falls outside of the...

The drama, which marks a reunion for Brodesser-Akner with Timberman and Grant, is currently in the development stage at Apple. (The iPhone maker and streamer declined to comment.)
Long Island Compromise follows a suburban American family and the lasting impact the patriarch’s weeklong kidnapping has on his wife and three children 40 years later.

“Seal Team” is completing its final mission: Season 7 will be the long-running military drama’s last at Paramount+.

David Boreanaz stars as Jason Hayes, the respected and intense team leader, alongside Neil Brown Jr., Aj Buckley, Toni Trucks and Raffi Barsoumian.
“For six seasons I have been fortunate and blessed to be a part of an outstanding cast and crew,” Boreanaz said in a statement Wednesday. “Every day spent was a note of thanks to our men and women in the military and Special Ops. “Seal Team” will conclude with the upcoming Season 7 at Paramount+.
The military drama series was renewed for a seventh season back in January. Production on the final season is slated to begin in December. No premiere date is set, but Season 7 will launch in 2024. The show aired its first four seasons on CBS before moving to Paramount+ beginning with Season 5.
“It has been a privilege to tell stories over seven seasons that honor the bravery and heroism of all who serve our country,” said executive producers Spencer Hudnut and Christopher Chulack. “We are deeply grateful to our amazing group of actors, writers, directors and talented crew, especially the hundreds of veterans who have worked on this show. Seal Team is gearing up for its final missions.
Paramount+ will end the military drama with its seventh season, which is slated to premiere sometime in 2024. Production on the final season is set to begin in early December.
Seal Team began as a CBS series in 2017 and ran for four seasons on the network before moving to Paramount+ for its fifth season in fall 2021 (season five, incidentally, is currently in a second run back on the broadcast network as part of CBS’ strike-altered fall schedule). Spencer Hudnut, Christopher Chulack, Boreanaz, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly and Mark Owen executive produce.

Seal Team is coming to an end.
The military drama series starring David Boreanaz will conclude on the Paramount+ streaming service with its seventh season, which is set to go into production in early December and will air in 2024.
Originating on CBS, the series moved to Paramount+ with its sixth season. The show was renewed by Paramount+ for Season 7 in January and obviously production was impacted by both the writers and actors strikes.
The stand-alone movie that was announced last year, days after its Season 6 renewal, however, is no longer moving forward.
The pickup came two months after the Season 6 finale, which ended on a cliffhanger. This two month delay, which led fans to launch another social media campaign to ensure the show continues, was in part due to talks about finding ways to produce the series more efficiently for streaming, rather than as a broadcast drama, where the series originated.

And so did everyone else. “I think she had like 24 offers (to adapt the book),” Timberman recalls, “and we just sort of pursued it doggedly and sent it to FX and they got on board really quick, and that’s where it began.” The result was the eight-part FX on Hulu limited series that starred Jesse Eisenberg, Lizzy Caplan and Claire Danes, earned consistently glowing reviews (87% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and landed seven Emmy nominations (including for Best Limited Series on which Timberman served as an...

Few shows lend themselves to revivals naturally. “Justified,” the critically acclaimed FX drama starring Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, might not seem like a prime candidate to return after the Emmy-winning series nailed its series finale in 2015. But the show is coming back on July 18 for a limited eight-episode run under the title “Justified: City Primeval.” From a logistical standpoint, bringing back TV’s coolest lawman makes sense: “Justified,” which featured mostly stand-alone, season-long arcs during its excellent six-season run, is perfectly suited to one-off limited series. It’s also a beloved show that balances comedy and drama well, has the respect of many in Hollywood and understands the unique narrative value of place in a way that many series do not.

Timothy Olyphant isn’t hanging up his hat anytime soon. The star and executive producer of “Justified: City Primeval” took the stage after the series premiered at this year’s Atx Television Festival and told a rowdy crowd he would happily return for more seasons.
“Look, I’d show up,” Olyphant said when asked if he would be open to returning as Raylan Givens. “Every time we’ve done this, I’ve had a good time. So I’d show up.”
Earlier in the post-screening Q&a, Olyphant was asked if he felt any trepidation about returning to beloved roles like Raylan in “Justified” and Seth Bullock in “Deadwood.”
“No more than I’d feel about any great part or any great opportunity,” he said. “As far as ‘Deadwood’ versus [‘Justified’], I never thought ‘Deadwood’ would happen. I didn’t honestly quite think I wanted it to happen, and it was such a lovely experience.

Timothy Olyphant has brought his cowboy hat to the mean streets of Detroit as deputy U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens to cross paths with a violent, sociopathic killer 15 years after he left the hollers of Kentucky in FX’s original Justified drama, as revealed in the official trailer for FX’s Justified: City Primeval, which dropped Wednesday.
The series revival, based Elmore Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, has Givens on a collision course with Clement Mansell — aka The Oklahoma Wildman — a desperado played by Boyd Holbrook, who’s already eluded a Motor City police task force.
“I see you near my daughter again, I’ll kill you,” Givens tells Mansell at one point in the trailer after seeing him with his daughter, Willa Givens, played by Vivian Olyphant.
“Not if I see you first,” Mansell responds with his own taunt as he licks his wounds after a beat-down.

Timothy Olyphant offers salvation as Raylan Givens, close to a decade since “Justified” concluded in 2015.
Olyphant reprises the role of the Elmore Leonard protagonist in new series “Justified: City Primeval,” based on novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.”
Per the official description, having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind.
A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again. No one is having as much fun as Toni Collette.
The Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Emmy winner leads mob boss comedy “Mafia Mamma” from director Catherine Hardwicke, marking a reunion since their 2015 film “Miss You Already.” A spoof cross between “Under the Tuscan Sun” and “The Godfather” with a dash of an “In Her Shoes” makeover, “Mafia Mamma” puts Collette in the driver’s seat — not that she needed any permission.
“The experience of making it was the most joyous of my career,” Collette told IndieWire during a recent interview. “It was one of the best experiences of my life.”
The script was sent to Collette during the Covid lockdown, and she immediately thought of Hardwicke. “It just made me laugh so much. I just thought, ‘Man, if this can do this for me at this time, I want to bring this to life.’ I had such a special...

When FX's "Justified" completed its six-season run in 2015, the United States' view of law enforcement was undergoing a radical shift due to the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri over police officer Darren Wilson's fatal shooting of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown. There would be many more tragic incidents in the years ahead, but the most egregious might've been the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin. Fortunately, justice was served in this case (Chauvin is currently serving a 21-year prison bid), but Chauvin's nearly 10-minute choking of Floyd was so mind-bogglingly cruel that anything less than a life sentence felt inadequate.
As these abuses piled up, and the dynamic between cops and the people they're charged to protect and serve changed, people began pointing to the propensity of films and television to valorize law enforcement and the judicial system as upstanding dispensers of justice. And if you happen to...

Ever since it was announced that Justified: City Primeval would be a limited series revival of the hit FX series, there have been questions about whether it will conclude the franchise.
During the TCA panel for the series on Thursday, the cast and creatives shed light on what longtime fans can expect.
Adelaide Clemens revealed that the series isn't exactly a spinoff, but it's more like "an extension of the universe."
As a result, it was revealed that the new series could be watched without watching the 2010-15 series.
Series star Timothy Olyphant opened up about returning to the Justified universe.
"My biggest concern was that I'd only make a pile of money," he said to reporters at the event, but the actor went on to speak more candidly.
"I didn't have any concerns. I love these guys," he said of the cast and crew who were on the stage with them.

Some folks aren’t quite sure how to describe Justified: City Primeval. Is it a sequel, a spin-off or even (gasp) a reboot? According to co-star Adelaide Clemons, the show as not so much a spin-off but “it’s an extension of the universe.” As the series mounts a limited run, it promises to showcase Timothy Olyphant’s character, U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, returning to the screen and trying to walk the fine line between a career as a marshal and a family with a 14-year-old daughter, Willa, who is played by Olyphant’s real-life daughter, Vivian. Deadline reports on the show’s TCA session, where Olyphant speaks on the possibility of continuing the story past City Primeval.
“My biggest concern was that I’d only make a pile of money,” Olyphant joked. He then followed up with a more sincere answer, “I didn’t have any concerns. I love these guys.

What if you woke up one morning and didn’t recognize your life anymore?

Showtime has been home to some flashy scripted programming over the last handful of years, with the breakout hit "Yellowjackets" right at the top of the list, not to mention the upcoming series adaptation of "Let the Right One In." This year saw the release of the ambitious "The Man Who Fell to Earth" on the premium cable channel/streaming service, serving as a sequel to the original 1976 movie that starred the late David Bowie.
For those who have been wondering whether or not we are going to get a second season of the sci-fi series, Showtime has finally handed down a verdict on that front. To get to the point, this is confirmed to be a one-and-done, though that may be for the best.

The Man Who Fell to Earth will not be back on Showtime for a second season, it has been announced.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series was initially conceived as a limited series, but that changed about halfway through production.
However, Showtime feels like the story came to a natural conclusion with its first season finale that aired earlier this year.
“Our thanks to the extraordinary Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet, John Hlavin and Sarah Timberman who did a great job of turning the David Bowie film into such a resonant tale for our times,” a Showtime spokesperson said in a statement to THR.
“And kudos to a wondrous cast led by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Naomie Harris and Bill Nighy for bringing it to life."
"Alex and Jenny originally intended The Man Who Fell To Earth to be a close-ended story."
