And now … they celebrate!
Spirits were high Wednesday evening as SAG-AFTRA members gathered at All Season Brewing in Los Angeles to toast the union reaching a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with studios and streamers and the end of the 118-day actors strike.
Party organizers said they chose the brewery due to its proximity to SAG-AFTRA headquarters, where just a few hours earlier the union’s negotiating committee approved the agreement in a unanimous vote.
Actors erupted in cheers when negotiating committee members, including Frances Fisher, Shari Belafonte and Avis Boone, arrived and joined the celebration after Wednesday’s vote and a marathon 10-hour session Tuesday.
Fisher, Belafonte and Boone told The Hollywood Reporter they’re “relieved” and “excited” following the end of the strike, and they shed some light on the tentative deal.

Actors Appreciate George Clooney’s SAG Proposal but Say ‘It’s a Little Bit of Union-Busting’ (Video)
While many SAG-AFTRA members appreciate George Clooney’s $50 million suggestion that he and other A-listers cover the union dues of lower-earning actors as a way to resolve the actors’ strike, some felt it was irrelevant at best and, at worst, “a bit of union-busting.” They said he could make a much bigger impact by showing up at a picket line.
“I think that the idea of raising the caps for that level of entertainer is an incredible idea. I totally agree with it,” said “Two Broke Girls” actress Alexandra Ryan on the picket line at Paramount Studios on Monday.
However, she added, “I think that it’s a sidestep to what we’re trying to do right now. And I also think that there’s a bit of inadvertent union-busting to the proposal. I don’t agree with that piece of it.”

Earlier this week, SAG-AFTRA released guidelines for members looking to “celebrate Halloween this year while also staying in solidarity” with the strike. Actors were advised to avoid costumes inspired by struck content — Barbie, Wednesday Addams, Marvel superheroes, etc. — and opt instead for generic characters like a ghost or zombie.
The response from guild members was swift, with many criticizing the restrictions. In response, SAG-AFTRA released a clarification late Friday, stating that they had “issued Halloween guidance in response to questions from content creators and members about how to support the strike during this festive season.

It’s been 97 days since members of the Screen Actors Guild went on strike against the Hollywood studios and streamers, demanding a better contract and asking the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for protections against artificial intelligence as well as an increase in residual payments. As actors near the 100-day mark, they’re disappointed the studios walked away from the negotiating table last week and don’t seem wanting or willing to reach an agreement, allowing the entertainment industry to get back to its regularly scheduled programming.

SAG-AFTRA members have pressed pause on film and TV production for the past three weeks, aside from some greenlighted indie projects, in an effort to get Hollywood studios and streamers, or the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), to offer them a fair deal. Last week, the Writers Guild of America received a request from the AMPTP to reconvene negotiations after a more than three-month strike, and SAG-AFTRA members are hoping to be next. While calls for fair compensation, AI protections, revenue sharing, and updates to health care...

After appearing in multiple award-winning web series, Ashley Clements is now adding some behind-the-camera work to her resume. Through Kickstarter, the Lizzie Bennet Diaries star has raised "finishing funds" for Sona, an eight-episode sci-fi web series.
Sona will star Clements as a military officer who must survive in an escape pod in open space. Brendan Bradley, a veteran actor with nearly a decade of web series experience under his belt, will direct Sona and will co-star as the protagonist's alien husband. At the time of this post, the project has raised more than $21,000, which is enough capital to ensure that all of its nine episodes will be funded.
Between 2012 and 2013, Clements portrayed Elizabeth Bennet in 100 episodes of the Emmy-award winning series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Her portrayal of the Pride and Prejudice heroine earned her a Streamy Award win in 2014. Later, she and Bradley teamed up as the romantic leads of Non-Transferable,...

A rom-com script featuring the former Lizzie Bennet, revived by an unlikely but true Buzzfeed story, and partly financed by Turkey’s tourism board is hoping its good fortune continues to transfer today as it helps launch a new distribution platform delivering 4K-resolution streams through a single click on social-media sites.
Brendan Bradley wrote the script for Non-Transferable several years ago, creating a fairly traditional take on a rom-com with an unlikely “meet cute." The protagonist buys non-refundable tickets for a big overseas trip to surprise her boyfriend on their anniversary. He, however, breaks up with her, leaving the protagonist with a broken heart and non-transferable tickets in someone else’s name. She advertises for another guy with the same name and, well, you can probably guess how the rest unfolds.

Let’s face it, University of Southern California (USC) film Cinematic Arts school kids have it pretty well. Just getting in to what is arguably the most competitive graduate film program is a badge of respect in an industry littered with standouts amongst its alumni. George Lucas, Robert Zemeckis, Ron Howard, not to mention The Lxd director Jon M. Chu. Now the famed feeder school for Hollywood the fast track is turning its students on to the digital side with a little help from Subway. It's a first for both school and brand here, the former looking to prepare its latest breed of filmmakers for actually making a career in the emergent medium of web originals and the latter looking to polish its ‘fresh’ image amongst the film crowd. (Something other brands like Stella Artois and Audi have done in spades.) A few months back, Subway approached USC, with some help from La-based Content & Co.

Parody, video games and the internet have always been a three’s company of buddiness. CollegeHumor’s Dorkly, YouTube 8-bit parodies, and of course Atom’s long-running and recently ended Zelda spoof, The Legend of Neil all feasted from the table of viewers nostalgic for the video games of their youth. Creator Matt Lewis still saw plenty of flesh on this comedy bone, crafting an elaborately detailed parody of over a dozen video game characters in what would become his first leap into web series with Video Game Reunion, set to bow March 8th on Atom and GameTrailers. The series opts for the lighter, familiar mockumentary riff on the idea of the real lives of game characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Mega Man—not as dark as the neo-noir sendup of the Mario Bros. and the Koopa Kingdom in 2008’s There Will Be Brawl. The main conceit of...

The first part of the seventh installment of the movie version of the lingua franca of Generation Next is due out in theaters this Friday, November 19. The second part of the finale of the Harry Potter film franchise is set to premiere eight months later on July 15, 2011. The Fine Brothers are capitalizing on the buzz. Online video auteurs Benny and Rafi Fine debuted their new web show, Harry Potter and the Rejected Scenes earlier this week. It's a monthly, live-action-figure series set in and about Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Castle that reimagines memorable scenes from Harry's seven years in the world of witchcraft and wizardry. Benny and Rafi ask the question "What if Jk had written it this way?" and give viewers the answer in the form of Mattel toys, animated mouths, and pragmatic dialogue. "We decided to start the new series after the conclusion of our Lost series last month,...

By now you should have at least two Memorial Day BBQs under your belts, and what better time to embrace your bratwurst coma for a low-maintenance look at the week ahead in web series. Tomorrow is officially the start of June and with it comes the premiere of Squatters, a new comedy on Dailymotion from creator Brendan Bradley. We had an early exclusive peek at Squatters, which hinted at its lineup of web series notables like The Guild’s Sandeep Parkih, Circle of Eight’s Austin Highsmith, and The Legend of Neil’s Tony Janning. Even NPR’s The Story took interest in the indie comedy. “After The Guild, I was suddenly an ‘Actor,’ and I realized that was a career I wanted to further explore,” said Parikh. “With Squatters, I get the opportunity to play a very different character than Zaboo, and who could turn down the chance to improvise,...

Two people weary from life meet unexpectedly and, even though they only know each other for a couple of days, discover a mind-blowing love that Changes Everything. But one of them has unbreakable commitments elsewhere — forcing him to ask, "Do I dare pursue this mind-blowing love, even if it means hurting other people?"
It's the plot of Bridges of Madison County and Nights in Rodanthe, right?
It's also the basic plot of a charming new gay movie, Redwoods, released last month on DVD.
Everett feels stifled with Miles, the man with whom he is raising an autistic son. But then Miles and their son go away for a week, and Everett meets Chase, a traveling novelist in town to research a book.
And so begins a brief, bittersweet love affair that will echo throughout the ages.
Look, if you simply can't buy this premise of "soul-mates," of love-at-first-sight, you won't like this movie.

Sometimes in life, you meet someone that makes such a fantastic first impression on you that you know you'll be into any project they bring to the table. And when that person has the talent to back it up and is just generally a great human being, it inspires you all the more. Actor-creator Brendan Bradley is one of those people for me. Having first met Bradley shortly after his relocation from New York to Los Angeles on the set of the short film September 12th, we were reunited on the set of The Legend of Neil, where he played the male fairy alongside Felicia Day (fairy vomit never looked so good!). So I was more than pleased to hear that Bradley had developed his own series, entitled Squatters. Set in present day Manhattan, the comedy follows the absurd lives of two 20-somethings, Alex Selkirk (played by Erik Scott Smith...

If his career keeps moving in the same direction, Matthew Montgomery may end up being the gay Parker Posey. Having played leads in at least seven independent features in just five years, plus another handful of supporting roles, he has established his indie street cred at a time when gay cinema seems to be exploding. Fans of gay cinema will probably remember Montgomery from Gone, But Not Forgotten, Long-term Relationship and the supernatural-tinged Back Soon.
Getting his start in Reign Of The Dead, a living dead short lensed in and around “Zombie Ground Zero,” Pittsburgh, he’s made his way up the indie food chain and appeared in other genre films, including Socket (which I wrote and directed, natch), Fear House and the upcoming Pornography.
But Montgomery isn’t just an actor in horror and sci-fi flicks; he’s a fan of them as well. A professed sci-fi nerd, Montogmery...
