Born on the 21st of February 1977, fascinated by his father's job in the film industry and also by film and photo cameras , he started working as Camera Assistant when he was only 16 years old, at a documentary film under the direct guidance of director of photography Doru Segall.
He continued working as a Camera Assistant for Nicolae Margineanu, that led to different collaborations opportunities with local and international Directors of Photography. In 1997 he carried out the military service, where besides the military missions, he begun preparing for the Art Faculty courses, against his parents will who were struggling with the film industry crisis after the 1989 Revolution, and tried to guide him towards The Economic Studies Faculty.
That was the key moment in his career. While attending the courses of Media University, he won a competition for the clapper/loader job for Franco Zeffirelli's movie "Callas Forever". After this fabulous experience, Marius Ivascu understood better how to approach the cinematographer job to reach the professional league. So after some interesting projects with different subjects, in 2005, he was proposed create the image for "Baieti Buni", first Romanian action TV series after more the 20 years in Romania. It was really well received by the Romanian public, with a new look and brave execution, soon after he got the attention of film producers, he started working on feature films, both local as well international productions.
Admired for his distinctive original work, which is considered remarkable, Marius Ivascu serves the vision as he shapes and discovers light, composition and movement. He loves his work, pushing the boundaries, especially in lighting, where he collaborates with great crews who become like family after many years on film sets.
Besides all this, he managed to maintain balance in his work, so you can find in his portfolio from commercials, TV series to feature films and documentaries. He traveled to different locations in different countries and continents, having the pleasure to work with world known film directors and film producers.
Marius's latest feature works are "The Zero Theorem", directed by Terry Gilliam and Larry Charles's feature film "Army of One", Matthew Weiner TV series "The Romanoffs".
