This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
It’ll be a race to the finish line in the final episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka. Both sides want to escape Peridia and return to New Republic space, but in the penultimate episode, “Dreams and Madness,” it really looks like it’s the villains who hold all the cards. While Thrawn has a Star Destroyer, Night Troopers, the Witches of Dathomir, two dark siders, and the Eye of Sion on his side, Ahsoka and friends don’t even have their purrgil anymore. How the hell are the heroes supposed to not only stop Thrawn’s plans of galactic conquest but also get back home? Only showrunner Dave Filoni knows at the moment.
But what Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra plan to do to thwart the Grand Admiral isn’t the finale’s only big mystery. There’s also the question of what’s...

Fantasy is all the rage on television. Sure, the genre has been popular before, and each decade has given us hugely influential and fantastic stories of magic and fantastical creatures, from "Xena: Warrior Princess" to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." But when "Game of Thrones" exploded onto the scene with a mature, gory, politically charged fantasy story, it kickstarted a fantasy TV race, forcing every studio and streaming service to run and make their own fantasy epic, no matter how much they had to pay for it.
Meanwhile, animation has always been at the forefront of fantasy television. There were Saturday morning cartoons like "Dungeons & Dragons" and "He-Man," shows like "Gargoyles" that focused more on worldbuilding and sequential storytelling, and also "Dragon Age: Absolution" and "The Dragon Prince," which deliver the kind of epic fantasy storytelling we commonly only see on the big screen.
And then there's "The Legend of Vox Machina.

With only its second season underway, Prime Video’s animated adult fantasy The Legend of Vox Machina is proving to be one of the streamer’s latest and fruitful ventures into the medium and geek culture-at-large.
Debuting in 2022, its critically acclaimed first season — largely funded through a kickstarer campaign and produced in partnership with Amazon Studios and Titmouse — arrived in the same year as a few other epic, sprawling fantasy TV series. Most notably His Dark Materials, The Sandman, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon. After garnering an early third season renewal and just five days after the show’s Jan. 20 second season premiere, Amazon Studios announced a multiyear exclusive overall television and first-look film deal with Critical Role.

After three years in the works, Critical Role’s animated “The Legend of Vox Machina” finally lit up streaming screens on Prime Video last month — delighting fans with a raucous, foul-mouthed spree of action and adventure.
The show, based on Critical Role’s first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, is currently No. 3 on Prime Video’s Top 10 ranking in the U.S. (after action-thriller series “Reacher” and rom-com “I Want You Back”). It also has an impressive 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience score.
The first nine episodes of “Vox Machina” were released in three-episode batches over the past three weeks. The final three episodes in Season 1 drop Thursday (Feb. 17), leading into a 12-episode second season, whose premiere date is Tba.
So what’s next for the Critical Role crew? Right now, they’re in the midst of the Campaign 3 livestream, and they are in discussions with partners about a video game adaptation.

The Legend Of Vox MacHina is an animated fantasy adventure for adult viewers – especially those who groove on Dungeons and Dragons and similar forays into the realms of magical creatures with special powers clashing over their various kingdoms, planets, etc. I am not one of them, but still enjoyed the heck out the first six episodes of this new series on Amazon Prime.
A diverse little band of mercenaries who really can’t fully get along with each other, undertake quests for profit. Some of them are too bawdy for prime-time; the language is salty, and the action sequences can be pretty elaborate. There’s even a bit of nudity on the menu. If they have backstories from other media, I don’t know what it is, and fellow newbies won’t need it to dive right in. The first episode establishes the tone and defines the players quite nicely,...

Critical Role gave fans a first look at the character art for upcoming Amazon original animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina,” created by Emmy-winning artist, animator and designer Phil Bourassa.
Cr is producing “The Legend of Vox Machina,” based on the popular role-playing collective’s first campaign. In 2019 Amazon Prime Video ordered a total of 24 episodes across two seasons after the project broke Kickstarter records. The first season is slated to debut “soon” on Amazon Prime Video.
Bourassa’s credits include character designs for DC/Warner Bros. Animation’s “Young Justice,” “Batman: Bad Blood,” “Batman: Hush” and “Justice League” series.
Bourassa, in a video Critical Role released Wednesday about his joining the series (watch below), said he worked closely with the Cr team to create the anime-inflected character looks.

Though it has not yet been expressly depicted on screen, according to the executive producers of Disney’s animated series Star Wars: Resistance,” two longstanding supporting characters are a gay couple.
The reveal came when Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman appeared on the “Coffee With Kenobi” podcast. The two said that the alien characters Okra, voiced by Bobby Moynihan, and Flix, voiced by Jim Rash, are “absolutely a gay couple and we’re proud of that.”
On the show, Okra and Flix are in charge of the Office of Acquisitions in the Colossus station where much of the action takes place. The nature of the characters’ relationship has never been described outright since the show premiered a year ago. But occasional moments like this one, where they take a break from running their business to visit Flix’s mother, at least have hinted, possibly, at something more than friendship.

Star Wars Resistance has been confirmed to feature the saga’s first ever openly gay couple. Though there have been Lgbt+ characters in expanded media such as novels – check out Star Wars: Aftermath, for example – there haven’t been any gay relationships in the saga on screen to date. Fans probably couldn’t have predicted who the first Sw gay couple would be, though, as it’s a pair of aliens resembling a pig and an owl.
Exec producers Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman spoke about Resistance – the Disney animated series that’s mostly aimed at a younger audience than The Clone Wars and Rebels – on the Coffee with Kenobi podcast recently and it was Ridge who spilled the beans on Flix and Orka, loveable comic relief characters who man the Office of Acquisitions in the Colossus station.

Disney is moving the needle of inclusivity a bit more with Star Wars Resistance as executive producers Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Brandon Auman have confirmed that the characters Orka (voiced by Jim Rash) and Flix (Bobby Moynihan) from the animated series are an openly gay couple.
In an interview on the Coffee with Kenobi podcast, Ridge said they are proud of Flix and Orka’s relationship. This marks the first Lgbtq couple on screen in the Star Wars universe.
The news about Orka and Flix seem to be part of a bigger picture Disney is painting when it comes to representation and inclusion. During Comic-Con in July, in addition to having Natalie Portman play a female Thor, it was announced that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be looking for “her queen” in the forthcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, making her the first Lgbtq superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a gay galaxy far, far away, the Disney Channel original animated series “Star Wars Resistance” is lightyears ahead of the rest of the franchise’s live-action counterparts: Orka and Flix, the duo operating the Office of Acquisitions in the Colossus, are in fact an openly gay couple. Not only are they gay lovers — they’re two different species. The leggier Flix is a Gozzo, while the stouter Orka is a Chadra-Fan.
Their relationship status was confirmed by “Star Wars Resistance” executive producers Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Brandon Auman, who appeared on an episode of the podcast “Coffee With Kenobi” hosted by Drew Taylor.

Star Wars Resistance season 2 is set for liftoff, according to Disney. The show was renewed midway through the first season, which sees Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot turned Resistance spy, investigate a station called the Colossus and its connections to the First Order. Along the way, he makes a few friends and participates in high-stakes races with a pretty junky ship called the Fireball.
The show, which is set years after Return of the Jedi and just before The Force Awakens, has plenty of connections to Episode VII. The valiant Poe Dameron plays a supporting role on the show as Kazuda's mentor while Captain Phasma leads her forces in the days before her mission to Jakku. Cast your eyes over the (very long) list of in-development Star Wars titles and you’ll notice that, like Resistance, the vast majority are rooted in that sweet spot between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
There are exceptions to the trend, of course; Lucasfilm projects like Episode IX and the hotly-anticipated Mandalorian series from Jon Favreau are the real outliers. But when it comes to Star Wars Resistance, fans are beginning to fall in love with Poe, Leia, and rookie X-wing pilot Kazuda Xiono, who became “The Recruit” during Sunday’s well-received pilot.
It’s by no means perfect, but as far as animated Star Wars series go, it’s a welcome addition to the Lucasfilm family, and one that will no doubt help fill the void between now and Episode IX. And while it initially begins six months prior to The Force Awakens, Resistance scribe Brandon Auman...

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, George Lucas created a sci-fi franchise so vast and so enduring, new stories are still being told. The latest installment in that universe is Disney’s animated series “Star Wars Resistance,” which takes place between the events of “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens.”
In the series, New Republic pilot Kazuda Xiono (Christopher Sean) is recruited by Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) as a spy on Colossus, a massive refueling station on the ocean planet Castilon. While he works as a mechanic, he also gets involved racing the ace pilots who are defending the station.
“Resistance” isn’t just a retread of the same two-sided conflict story that’s been told before in “Star Wars,” and it both looks and feels different as well. Here’s a breakdown of how “Resistance” sets itself apart from the rest of the galactic franchise:

“Can you imagine what it’s like to be an ace pilot?” Kazuda Xiono (“Kaz”) asks in the new trailer for Disney Channel’s upcoming animated show “Star Wars Resistance.” The adventure series will have a one-hour premiere on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW, and Disney Channel VOD, with further airings on Disney Xd.
Audiences will follow Kaz and some familiar “Star Wars” faces as he does just that — become a top pilot, not to mention spying on the rising threat of the First Order for the Resistance.
In the hour-long premiere, Poe and Bb-8 assign Kaz to go undercover on the Colossus, a massive aircraft home to new aliens, droids, and other creatures. He makes new friends, like Poe’s old buddy Yeager, as well as a battered astromech droid called Bucket. Earlier this year Nickelodeon announced that they would be launching a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon in 2018. Normally, this would be good news. However, in this instance, it served as confirmation that the current cartoon, the 2012 computer animated series we’ve come to refer to as 'Nick Turtles', would be finishing with its fifth season. And as much as we’re excited for a fresh take on the material, this current version is one of the best takes on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to date.

As you undoubtedly know, San Diego’s Comic-Con International happened this past weekend, and I was fortunate to be amongst the tens of thousands of attendees. There was, as always, a mega-ton to see and do, and it was hard to keep the Fomo (Fear Of Missing Out) from getting completely out of control over the 4.5 days of the con. To stay sane, though, at some point you just have to accept that you’re going to miss a bunch, and focus on what you do have the opportunity to see.

In 2016, there are three main running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continuities. There’s the film series, which I like, the comic book series, which I love, and the Nickelodeon cartoon series, which is my favourite.
I’ve written a lot of articles about the show because I think it’s excellent. I’d argue that it’s the best new take on the Turtles since the 1990 live-action film. It takes a lot of what I love about the Ninja Turtles and runs it through a filter of weird horror films and odd sci-fi. Then they add their own elements too, shaping it into this this sharp, funny lovely little oddball of a show.

“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. This year’s nominations reflect that change, spanning an amazing diversity of mediums and genres, all executed at the highest level of creativity. We are truly inspired and impressed by the work of our colleagues.”

The current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series continues to be a favorite of mine. It strikes the right balance between being a goofy, fun cartoon about a bunch of lovable characters and addressing more serious and dark themes about power and responsibility. It also does well at adding new ideas, characters, and material while including homages to previous incarnations of Tmnt and staying true to the foundations of the overall series. The art is pretty cool and unique; and of course, the voice talent and creative team are stellar.
The series is now in Season 3 (and already renewed for a fourth season!) and has taken on a slightly different focus, with the Turtles leaving the familiar NYC cityscape for other territory. A short while ago I got to sit down at the Times Square Toys “R” Us (a super-cool store with a Ferris wheel and other nifty things inside...

Introduction
Welcome to the first installment of “Living Pictures on the Small Screen,” a weekly column dedicated to animated programming on television. Cultural commentary inevitably comes with bias, and I wanted to create this column in appreciation of the people and shows that helped me overcome my own bias regarding animation. Like most kids in my socioeconomic sphere, I grew up watching cartoons. Some of them were legitimately good (Batman: The Animated Series and Rocko’s Modern Life) and some of them were simply there when I turned the TV on after school (Inspector Gadget and Cow and Chicken). Once I started taking film and television more seriously as an adult, it was hard not to associate animation with childhood. It was even harder to appreciate animated films and series–which I had to view from a distance, since I wasn’t witnessing real people on the screen–alongside things...

We get the chance to interview famous people every now and them. We ask them their favourite Statham movie. Here's what happens...
Jason Statham. Since the dawn of Den Of Geek, he has been our muse. Our mayor. Our driving force. So much so, that we ask lots of people that we meet just what their favourite Statham movie is (including the man himself). Here, we've gathered together lots of the responses we've had in one document.
And so here it is:
Jason Segel: "I guess it would have to be… oh man, there are so many. I’m going to go with The Transporter!"
Seth Rogen: "Crank. And then Crank 2."
Evan Goldberg: "It was him in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, right? That’s the best one."
Alice Lowe: "I've never seen any of his films..... Oh I did!

I love visiting New York City, and New York Comic Con is one of my favorite shows. I always have a great time, and this year was no exception. One other thing that remains consistent every year I go is that it all goes by in a total whirlwind blur, and I can barely remember all the things I saw and did, or when they occurred.
But for you, my faithful readers who may not have been able to attend, I’ll try to remember some of the best parts of the weekend, and, as Inigo Montoya would say, “sum up.” So here we go! In no particular order, some of the coolest experiences I had in NYC:
I saw First Date, the Broadway musical starring Zachary Levi, and it was fantastic. I also interviewed Zac at The Nerd Machine booth during the con – so stay tuned for my review...

While Marvel has been kicking collective box office arse for the last few years when it comes to the increasingly popular blockbuster genre of comic book movies (with another one-two punch slated for this year via Shane Black's Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World), one area where it's been lagging behind its DC rival is in the department of animated features (and even animated series). Earlier this month, Marvel released the direct-to-video anime feature Iron Man: Rise of Technovore, and while far from perfect, it has some elements to make it memorable. We recently had the chance to fire off a few questions at Brandon Auman, the man behind the film's story and a longtime collaborator in Marvel's animation world, and here's what he had to say about Rise of Technovore, other Marvel projects, and the other animated series he's been working on.

Harrison Wilcox is an associate producer on Disney Xd's Ultimate Spider-Man and also worked on Heroes between 2006 - 2009. He's written several graphic novels, including the She-Hulks limited series with Superior Spider-Man artist Ryan Stegman in 2010. Last week, we had the chance to quiz Harrison on his involvement with Madhouse's Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore anime (which was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray in both the UK and Us) as well as the other projects he's currently working on both at the moment and looking ahead to the future. What exactly was you involvement with Iron Man: Rise of Technovore? Megan Bradner and I worked closely with Brandon Auman, who did a great job on the concept and outline. We worked with Sony and Madhouse on translations and the script all the way through to production, post and the English casting and dubbing. How would you sell the...
