Kouta Hirano’s Hellsing has done wonders for the dark fantasy vampire genre, and most of its credit goes to its main character, Alucard. Deemed one of the strongest characters in the history of anime and manga, Alucard has remained undefeated in the entire series and has served the Hellsing organization in dealing with vampires and other supernatural forces.

While there were many villains introduced in the story, none of them were able to defeat Alucard because of the plethora of powers and abilities that he possessed. From shapeshifting to dark composition, Alucard is filled with strong attacks that can’t be rivaled by anyone. However, there was only one character who came close.
His name was Alexander Anderson, and he was a prominent member of the Iscariot organization, also known as Vatican Section 13. Hirano once revealed that he introduced Section 13 and Anderson...

Director Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Two" is lighting the world on fire right now, much like Paul Muad'Dib's (Timothee Chalamet) jihad will be doing to the known universe after the movie's end. The sequel enjoyed a box office debut twice as big as the first "Dune" did in 2021. Unlike was the case with David Lynch's 1984 "Dune," which earned too little for sequels, it seems that Warner Bros. now has its next blockbuster franchise.
From the Worms to the Spice (which the movies hardly explain), the world of "Dune" is quite weird. One of this bizarre iceberg's tips is the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, leader of the Harkonnen feudal house. Played in the recent movies by Stellan Skarsgård, the Baron is about 600 pounds (reflecting his gluttonous wealth) and to get around, he doesn't walk, he floats with anti-gravity belts. Frank Hebert's original "Dune" books were an influence on...

I saw "Renfield" this weekend — but based on the box office returns, I'm one of the few who did. I understand why, since I didn't enjoy the experience. Why is the movie an action-comedy instead of a horror-comedy? Why is it set in the modern day, especially when the opening teases a "Young Frankenstein" style homage to classic, black-and-white Universal Horror?
To read more about the failings of "Renfield," I'd point to /Film's own review courtesy of Chris Evangelista. And if you want a better action-heavy, modern-day twist on Dracula, I recommend Kouta Hirano's manga "Hellsing" and its anime adaptations ("Hellsing: Ultimate").
Published from 1997 to 2008, the Dracula of "Hellsing" is unrecognizable. He now goes by Alucard, for one, and while still a creature of the night, he hunts his own kind, not ingenues or estate lawyers. Why? Because Alucard serves at the behest of Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing,...

Kouta Hirano's action-horror manga "Hellsing" begins 100 years or so after Abraham Van Helsing defeated Dracula. Contrary to the account of Bram Stoker, the Lord of Vampires was not slain, merely cowed, and became the Helsing (eventually Hellsing) family retainer. Abraham's descendant, Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, leads an eponymous ghoul-hunting organization. Her top agents are the rechristened Alucard and his newly sired protégé, Seras "Police Girl" Victoria.
Hellsing's enemies are two-fold. First, there's Iscariot, the Vatican's vampire slayers who rival the Protestant Hellsing; Father Alexander Anderson is particularly dead-set on killing Alucard. Second, there's Millennium, a Nazi remnant who experimented with the occult and still intends to bring about a thousand-year Third Reich. If you're not much of a manga reader, don't fear, for "Hellsing" has been adapted into an animated series. However, if you're looking to watch the "Hellsing" anime, you'll have to decide: Which one? That's right,...

It’s little surprise that the Watchmen toped BookScan’s list of Top 20 Graphic Novels for November for the fifth month in a row. In a report at ICv2, it was noted the book actually hit the Top 10 list twice with the paperback edition of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ story atop the list and the new hardcover edition in the sixth spot.
Eight of the 20 spots belong to traditional graphic novels with the remaining dozen spots nabbed, as expected, by Manga releases, led by Fruits Basket Vol. 21 in second place. DC’s Joker original tale debuted in fourth place and gave the publisher three of the Top 10 spots. Marvel had no titles in the Top 20 although Dk’s holiday book Marvel Chronicle debuted in 17th place. Similarly, Running Press’ wonderful DC Vault appeared in 15th place.
