Movistar Plus+, Spain’s most-viewed pay TV operator, is partnering on “Los domingos,” a new film from “Lullaby” director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and the producers of that critically acclaimed film.
A Movistar Plus+ Original, “Los Domingos” is set in and will shoot in Ruiz de Azúa’s native Basque country, said Nahikari Ipiña at Sayaka Producciones (“Colossal”).
Now in development, “Los Domingos” is produced by Movistar Plus+ and Sayaka and Marisa Fernández Armenteros’ Buenapinta Media (“The Mole Agent”), Sandra Hermida at Think Studio and Colosé Producciones (“Society of the Snow”) and Manu Calvo (“Wounded”).
“‘Los domingos’ is a co-production between Movistar Plus+ and four producers and as independent producers for us that’s important,” Fernández Armenteros said at Cannes.
“Domingos,” which shoots in the first half of 2025, is a drama, although plot details are under wraps.
“It is such luck to accompany Alauda in ‘Los domingos’ after ‘Lullaby’ success with audiences and critics.

Madrid-based Buenapinta Media, a producer on Maite Alberdi’s Oscar-nominated “The Mole Agent” and Alauda Ruiz de Azúa’s “Lullaby,” has unveiled a development slate that includes new features by Ruiz de Azúa, Cinéfondation alum Guillermo García López, and Borja Cobeaga and Victor García León.
The slate announcement comes one week after “Lullaby,” hailed by Pedro Almodovar as “undoubtedly the best debut in Spanish cinema for years,” triumphed at the 2023 Spanish Academy Awards, winning best first feature, actress (Laila Costa) and supporting actress (Susi Sánchez)
The 2023-24 production slate at Buenapinta Media, headed by Marisa Fernández Armenteros, also features Isabel Coixet’s just-announced “Un Amor.”
“Lullaby’s” four producers — Sandra Hermida, Buenapinta Media, Encanta Films and Sayaka Producciones — are now backing development on Ruiz de Azúa’s second feature. She is writing the screenplay.
Buenapinta is also developing “Cuidad sin sueño,” from García López, whose “Frágil Equilibrio” won a 2016 best doc feature Goya.

Several weeks ago, in the dark basement of a music club in Madrid, Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo whispered a name in my ear, the person he hoped would be the star of his latest film, and then he quickly swore me to secrecy in exchange for a beer. Anne Hathaway (of whom I have become a big fan in recent years) will take the lead in Colossal, written and directed by Vigalondo, and produced by Nahikari Ipiña with her company Sayaka Productions, financed by Voltage Pictures.Hathaway will play Gloria, who moves back to her hometown after losing her job and fiancé. A series of emails took me through the maze of streets in a central neighbourhood of Madrid. Upon arrival, I was led by producer Nahikari Ipiña into the location shoot of Nacho Vigalondo's new thriller Open Windows. Starring Elijah Wood, Sasha Grey and Neil Maskell, this is Vigalondo's third feature film and first in English. Vigalondo has made a reputation with his time-travel film Timecrimes, and sci-fi comedy Extraterrestrial. His unique approach to dissemination of information in contemporary society make his films metatexts on technology and its effect on human interaction. Details of the film are being kept pretty quiet, so I won't be revealing much on the plot. Suffice to say that in continuing with Vigalondo's singular vision, the film is seen entirely on...

If you're a fan of genre film, you've had September 22-29 circled on your calendar for months. That's when one of the most fun, depraved and intimate film festivals in the country once again invades Austin, Texas. It's called Fantastic Fest and it features a huge blend of action, horror and sci-fi movies that most people haven't heard of at the time, but we all hear about after. This year is no different. They announced the first wave of films [1] in July and today we've got the second wave. Most of them are new to many of us, but then there are a few that we've covered in the past: Nacho Vigalondo's Extraterrestrial, Ti West's The Innkeepers, Lars Von Trier's Melancholia and Adam Wingard's You're Next just to name a few. Official Us Poster For Lars von Trier’s ‘Melancholia’; VOD Debut In October After Fantastic Fest Bow
VOD must be quite a profitable avenue for Magnet, as they will debut Lars von Trier‘s highly-anticipated Cannes hit Melancholia on the digital platform over a month before its theatrical release in November. Vulture has the official Us poster premiere (using the same key art as the rest) as well as the news of an October 7th, 2011 VOD release date for the drama starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgard, Stellan Skarsgard and Udo Kier.
It will then debut in theaters on November 11th, but it has also just been announced as part of the Fantastic Fest line-up. Check out their second wave of titles after the poster for the fest that runs from September 22nd to the 29th.
