During an NBC News "town hall" event Thursday morning, Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump weighed in on the new twenty dollar bill that will feature heroic abolitionist Harriet Tubman, replacing our 7th President Andrew Jackson. While Trump said he thinks Harriet Tubman "is fantastic," he lamented the removal of President Jackson, repeatedly citing his "tremendous history," and suggested "coming up with another denomination" that actually isn't new at all.

Academy Award winner Sean Penn got his professional start in television back in 1974, playing “Kid” in two episodes of Little House On The Prairie. Four decades later, he is set to return to the small screen – this time playing the seventh President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, in American Lion. Planned as a six hour HBO miniseries, the project is an adaptation of American Lion: Andrew Jackson In The White House by Jon Meacham, with additional research material sourced from a biography by Robert V. Remini.
Scripted by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (Narcos), the adaptation will take the form of a miniseries so as to encompass greater swathes of the life of Andrew Jackson, who was a deeply controversial figure. Born in 1767, Jackson worked as a courier during the American Revolutionary War in his early teens, and was orphaned by the age of 14. He grew to be a lawyer,...

'The Contender' movie hero: Joan Allen as the virtuous Sen. Laine Hanson. 'The Contender' movie: Exceptional Joan Allen in intriguing but ultimately wimpy political drama "Principles only mean anything when we stick by them when they're inconvenient," says Senator Laine Hanson, played by Joan Allen in Rod Lurie's The Contender. Senator Hanson should know. In Lurie's political drama, the poor Democratic senator is grilled by a Republican inquisitor with a bad hairdo (Gary Oldman) who wants to prevent at all costs her being confirmed as the next Vice President of the United States. Even if that means destroying Hanson's political career by making public the senator's alleged participation in an orgy during her college days.* Now, why such hatred? Well, the Republican watchdog is certain that the U.S. president (Jeff Bridges) has chosen Sen. Hanson because of her gender instead of her qualifications for the job. Adding insult to injury,...

Ever wondered what would happen if the President of the United States had to team up with a 13-year-old Finnish boy to fight for survival in the wilderness?
Apparently somebody did, because that’s the plot of an upcoming Samuel L. Jackson action movie written and directed by Jalmari Helander, a filmmaker from Finland who is best known for directing Christmas horror movie “Rare Exports.”

If "Argo" wins Best Picture as Oscar prognosticators are predicting after its sweep of the DGA and SAG awards, it won't be the first time a film won without having its director nominated. Granted, it's rare: The last time was in 1989, with "Driving Miss Daisy." However, there are other ways that the 85th Academy Awards, which will be held on February 24, might set several Oscar firsts. 1. If Daniel Day-Lewis wins Best Actor, he will be the only actor to have won three Oscars in this category. Jack Nicholson is currently the Oscar record holder with three wins, but one of those was for Best Supporting Actor (for 1983's "Terms of Endearment.") 3. If Emmanuelle Riva wins Best Actress for "Amour," she will be the oldest Best Actress winner in history. At 85, she's already set a record as the oldest Best Actress nominee. Jessica Tandy, who won for "Driving Miss Daisy" when...

Since today is Presidents Day, I thought it would be a good time to give a fun list of the 10 best fictional movie presidents. I have to say that I think we need a Harrison Ford type president in the White House today. Check out the list below, and let us know who you would like to see as the real president of the United States.
I think all of these movies are worth watching again if you haven't seen them in awhile.

He was the corrupt senator with the dead Vegas hooker in his bed in The Godfather Pt 2. He sent Martin Sheen upriver in Apocalypse Now and was the Tom Landry-like coach in North Dallas 40. G.D. Spradlin was an accomplished, intense character actor who popped up frequently throughout the ’70s and ’80s and whose other credits include Zabriskie Point (1970) and Tim Burton’s Ed Wood (1994). Apparently Spradlin was a millionaire oil company exec who wandered into acting on a lark after he was well into his 40′s. Spradlin died at his cattle ranch in California this morning at age 90.
From The La Times:
Gervase Duan “G.D.” Spradlin, a character actor best known for playing authority figures in television and films, including “The Godfather: Part II” and “Apocalypse Now,” has died. He was 90.

Actor Jeff Bridges has enjoyed an impressive big-screen career playing a broad range of characters from the President of the United States to an alien, and yet he is often called one of the most underrated actors of his time. For his acclaimed role as Rooster Cogburn in "True Grit," Bridges is nominated for an Oscar for the sixth time -- he won Best Actor last year for "Crazy Heart."

Life is political. Hollywood is political. And yesterday in the U.S., the state elections were very political in the broad sense of the term, since many pundits kept arguing that they served as a referendum on President Obama and his policies.
We make no such claims. We're not here to talk U.S. politics specifically, but with all this political fever in play, what better time than to reflect back on what we believe are the ten best movies about American politics?
There are some terrific contenders here; not surprisingly some from decades gone by. But in most, the themes of power and corruption going hand-in-hand is front and center. It's material that's inherently rife with conflict, making for some of the best drama to be found anywhere.
So have a look at the following pages and our selections for the best movies about American politics. And when you're finished,...

Tonight, President Barack Obama will deliver a highly anticipated address on the matter of national health care reform. The speech, undoubtedly one of the most important of Obama's career, has been described by insiders as a "game-changer" regarding his position on health care. Still, while Obama is an indisputably gifted orator and his speech tonight is of paramount importance to the people of America, can he measure up to some other famous Presidential addresses -- particularly on the subjects of alien invasions and imminent, Gary Oldman-led terrorist attacks?
If these five fictional Presidential speeches are any indicator, President Obama has his work cut out for him when speaking to the nation tonight.
Air Force One: President James Marshall, played note-perfect by Harrison Ford, will not negotiate with terrorists. Instead, he'll systematically execute them in the midst of a mile-high plane hijacking. But Marshall's handiness with a firearm is second...
