What was old was extremely new on Netflix in January and even into this month.
Specifically, the Peter Farrelly-created dramedy series about addiction, Loudermilk, which was barely found in its original run on the now-unplugged AT&T Audience Network, became a must-see show on the streamer six-plus years after its original airing.
In Nielsen’s Top 10 for Streaming Originals (January 8-14), Loudermilk ranked No. 8 with 846 million viewing minutes.
But even before that list was published, Loudermilk was showing signs of life across the streamer’s own Top 10 charts. Loudermilk Season 1 was in the Netflix Top 10 most-viewed shows in the U.S. for four weeks with a peak rank of No. 4 during the week of January 15-21. Season 2 of Loudermilk ranked in the Netflix top 10 stateside during the week of July 28.
But that’s not all. Loudermilk hit the top 10 throughout the month of January in Australia,...

After developing a multi-camera comedy series for ABC in 2018 and seeing it fail to move forward, comedian Nate Bargatze quickly accepted the situation and was ready to reconsider his next steps. “These things don’t work out, and then your stand-up kind of keeps going,” he says, “and so then you just kind of reassess.” But after making his debut as the host of SNL with this year’s Halloween episode — which is so far the highest-rated of the season — he remembered how viscerally exciting it can be to perform for a live TV audience.
The experience, he says, presented new challenges. As someone who to this point has mostly done stand-up, there were moments within this “TV world” where he had to figure out “which camera to look at.”
And of course, there are no guarantees of where things will go, given how crazy his schedule has gotten amidst myriad commitments.

Joshua Malina (Scandal) and Beth Triffon (Ten Days in the Valley) have joined the casts of Showtime’s Shameless and ABC’s The Goldbergs, respectively, in recurring roles. Both initially signed for one-episode guest shots, which have already aired. Both were received well and ultimately turned into sizeable guest arcs.
Malina recurs as Arthur Trilling on the eleventh and final season of Shameless. Arthur is a longtime Chicago cop who stays safe on the job by refusing to leave his squad car. Then he is assigned Carl Gallagher as his junior partner and that changed everything.
Starring William H. Macy, the final season of Shameless finds the Gallagher family and the South Side at a crossroads, with changes caused by the Covid pandemic, gentrification and aging to reconcile.
Jeremy Allen, Ethan Cutkosky, Cameron Monaghan, Noel Fisher, Steve Howey, Shanola Hampton, Christian Isaiah and Kate Miner also star.

February may be the shortest month, but that doesn’t mean streaming services can ignore their duty to entertain us at all times. In that mission, Netflix is making a decent effort in February 2021. This isn’t the most jam-packed month the major streamer has trotted out just yet but there are plenty of new originals to get the job done.
Netflix has a few original series of note this month. The party begins with Kid Cosmic on Feb. 2. This animated series is a comic-tinged adventure from Craig McCracken, creator of the Powerpuff Girls. That’s followed by the Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl-starring Firefly Lane on Feb. 3 and Behind Her Eyes on Feb. 17. Perhaps the biggest sleeper this month, however, is Tribes of Europa. This post-apocalyptic adventure series premieres on Feb. 19.

In January, AT&T announced that DirecTV’s Audience Network was shutting down, transforming itself into an HBO Max Preview Channel. While not surprising, the move threw in limbo three original series on the channel: comedy Loudermilk and dramas Condor and Mr. Mercedes.
While David E. Kelley’s Mr. Mercedes had just wrapped its Season 3 run on Audience, with its future beyond that in serious doubt, Loudermilk and Condor both had completed new seasons in the can that had not yet been scheduled by the network. As Audience ceased to exist n May 22, the rights to its original series were handed back to their producers.

Developing a rapport with hotel staff members is not uncommon for celebrities, especially those who travel frequently enough because of work or press opportunities to have multiple encounters with folks who carry their luggage, make up their rooms and serve them food. But when comedian Sebastian Maniscalco warmly greets the Four Seasons Los Angeles server who’s about to take his order, he’s not just commemorating the umpteenth time he’s popped in for a Cobb salad; rather, it’s because they worked side by side almost two decades ago while Maniscalco was quietly building what has become a comedy empire.
It’s that tireless, immediate man-of-the-people relatability that has helped him connect with one audience after another, and eventually, carried him from one side of the table to the other where he is celebrating 20 years in comedy.

How does TV comedy keep getting better?
Dramas hit a bit of a plateau on television in 2018. The likes of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and even The Leftovers are now distant memories. Better Call Saul lives on, and The Americans concluded in fine fashion but the landscape after that isn’t as nearly as impressive as years’ past.
More than ever, it is comedy that is the driving force behind the most daring, creative, and fun storytelling on television. Perhaps that’s because comedy is more context-dependent than drama and therefore must be more adaptable and change with the times. Or maybe it’s simply because we all just want to laugh? Whatever the reason,...

Who’s the real star of a talk show: the host or the guests? We’re certainly in a time when networks and services are desperate to find a show where the former is true. With a magnetic, charismatic, powerful person at the center, a show doesn’t have to be dependent on the attraction du jour. Other shows can draw strength from the influx of voices that run through the normal framework of a daily, weekly, or semi-regular show.
At its best, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” is a blend of both those ideas. Although the series makes it abundantly clear that host Jerry Seinfeld is often more preoccupied with vehicles than the people who inhabit them, when he can indulge his passions with someone who is a good fit as a co-pilot, the result can be magical. Now that the series is part of the Netflix domain, some...

Jerry Seinfeld likes to think of his hit Netflix series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” as his personal “art project.” As creator, executive producer and star, Seinfeld has full jurisdiction over the show, which for him often means choosing to have no jurisdiction at all, letting the each episode unfold naturally with each guest, local cafe and tricked out ride.
Seinfeld continued his laissez faire approach into Season 10, which premieres on Netflix July 6 and features some of the comedian’s favorite guests so far, including Zach Galifianakis, Dave Chappelle and the late Jerry Lewis.
What are you most excited for viewers to see in Season 10?
The fun thing about doing this show, is every guest that walks on the show completely changes the entire show. There is no similarity between the time I spent with Zach Galifianakis and the time I spent with Jerry Lewis or Alec Baldwin. The guest,...

I find so much joy in watching Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. It's just such an enjoyable and relaxing show to watch and it's also funny! I've already blazed through every episode on Netflix and now the tenth season is upon us and today we have the first promo spot to share with you!
"Practically everyone is coming out with brand new, even longer, more complicated shows. Don't you have enough to keep track of? Without trying to remember: Who's a wizard? Who's a machine? Who's a zombie? Our average episode is only 14 minutes long. ... We think one car, two comedians and some coffee is plenty."
In the new trailer, Seinfeld is joined by Matthew Broderick showing off a preview of fun snippets from the upcoming season. The season will consist of 12, 20-minute episodes with guest appearances from Ellen DeGeneres, Dave Chappelle, the late Jerry Lewis, Kate McKinnon,...

Jerry Seinfeld knows how much TV is out there, so he’s selling his Netflix show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” as a brief morsel that doesn’t take too much time to enjoy. A lot like a tasty cup o’ joe.

The Emmy-nominated Netflix series (originally on Crackle) features Seinfeld pairing a different vintage car to each of his venerated interview subjects. The two drive around town to a favorite out of the way diner or coffee shop and shoot the proverbial shit,...

At&T Audience Network’s excellent comedy Loudermilk boasts many great actors, but when comedian Brian Regan’s character Mugsy was introduced he stole the show. Under the guidance of recovering alcoholic Loudermilk (Ron Livingston — read our interview with him here), Regan’s character is a remorseful dad, and part of Loudermilk’s motley crew of recovery regulars who meet up for circle time and help each other stay clean and sober. But when Mugsy reveals his daughter Latte was estranged for eight years, that sends Loudermilk into action. Regan is an all-time great stand up, never relying on a cheap laugh, insult-driven set...read more...

Real comedy still happens on late night, we can prove it. If you like Conan comedy gold, Fallon friendliness, cutesy Corden, list-making Letterman, kneedy Kimmel, and all the rest, I hope you’ll enjoy this column too.
Last night on late night, John Oliver took America to task for being the only other country, auspiciously paired with Papua New Guinea, to not have any federal mandated paid family leave for the birth of a child. May 10 was Mother’s Day in the Us this year, and Last Week Tonight made the astute move of exposing a pretty horrible injustice.
Also, since very few late night shows broadcast on Fridays, and fewer still upload their clips on time for Saturday, today we see Ray Romano cry on Late Show, U2 “busk” with Jimmy Fallon, and Lance Bass and James Corden do Boy Band-Oke with Grace Helbig on The Grace Helbig Show.

Chris Rock has a plethora of today’s top comedians in his film “Top Five,” including Brian Regan! The comedian recently appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and during his interview, he introduced a clip featuring his Sirius Radio producer character and Rock’s character Andre. In the clip, Andre is recording a bumper for Sirius Xm, but Regan’s character asks him to put some “stank” on it. Of course, Andre doesn’t know what that means. If you want to see what kind of “stank” is required to record a simple bumper, watch the clip below. “Top Five” is written and directed by Rock as well as starring Rock along [ Read More ]

Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee has become quite the hit, and distributor Crackle is now offering a new way to consume Seinfeld's conversations with his celebrity guests. It has debuted Single Shots, a series of two-minute supercuts where Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee guests discuss specific subjects. Single Shots draws its material from previously-filmed episodes of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, and each episode centers on a particular theme by featuring footage from multiple guests. For instance, the first episode is titled "Donuts", and it includes three different donut-related conversations from Seinfeld's web series: One with Tina Fey, a second with Brian Regan, and a third with Sarah Silverman. Single Shots, which Seinfeld describes as "a little espresso," is a versatile asset for Crackle. It extends the platform's crown jewel, finds a home for unused footage, and seems to be both inexpensive and easy to put together.

Nothing goes better with coffee than donuts, as Jerry Seinfeld says about the disemboweled confections in his first “Single Shot,” a spinoff from his successful web series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” While “Cars” features Seinfeld and one other comedian talking about many things, “Single Shot” features several comedians covering one topic. In the premiere episode, that something is donuts, and those discussing them are Tina Fey, Brian Regan, and Sarah Silverman. Have you been watching Jerry Seinfeld's new web series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee"? Yes, it looks like Seinfeld really wanted to take the "show about nothing" concept to the Internet, and this is the result.
In this exclusive outtake, Seinfeld and Brian Regan (who's pretty much the best) riff on the logic behind asking people "Are you sitting down?" when they're about to deliver news. (Check out the full video here.)
Oh, to be in a diner and look over to see Jerry Seinfeld and Brian Regan making each other laugh.

Comedian Brian Regan joins Jerry Seinfeld for the third installment of his web series, "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee," which, coincidentally, is exactly what it sounds like: just a couple of dudes, driving around, shootin' the sh*t. Eventually, there's coffee.
This time, Seinfeld picks up Regan in a 1970 Dodge Challenger Ta and the two gab about this and that, mostly stand-up, like how comedians are really "smart idiots" and how they both wrote a similar joke about making coffee vs. putting a man on the moon.
You also find out why Regan went into comedy in the first place: he just couldn't imaging being able to wake up on time for work everyday if he had a normal job (go figure) and Regan tells a joke about the phrase "jiggling the handle" that literally made us Lol.
