In the summertime when the weather is hot, the CW has revealed just what it’s got. With apologies to Mungo Jerry, the broadcast net today set premiere dates for three summer series: Penn & Teller: Fool Us (July 11), Whose Line Is It Anyway? (May 23) and Masters of Illusion (May 20). Alyson Hannigan is taking over as host for Season 3 of Penn & Teller: Fool Us, the competition series in which aspiring magicians perform his or her best trick as illusionists Penn & Teller…...

The ever-popular Crystal Maze finished its live run some 20 years ago today and is set to make a comeback soon in the form of a "live immersive experience".
Running for six series from 1990 to 1995, the Richard O'Brien (and Ed Tudor-Pole) fronted series is still an awesome watch on digital channel Challenge to this day.
So while we're all getting out our multi-coloured tracksuits in preparation for the live event, which is still having its set built, we cast our minds back to just why the Channel 4 game show was so brilliant.
1. Richard O'Brien was the perfect host
Whoever thought of picking Rocky Horror writer Richard O'Brien as host of this quirky game show is a TV genius. When picturing The Crystal Maze, O'Brien is most likely the first image that comes to mind; topped up to the nines with leopardskin fur coats and leather boots.
Constantly making quips to camera at the contestants' expense,...

The set-up: Like so many rosé-fueled nights, Jess and Nick’s rash decision to book non-refundable passage on a couples cruise proved foolish in the aftermath of their break-up. So what did they do? They downgraded their tickets for the Lovers’ Suite so everybody could come along. Naturally, the gang had qualms about boarding this “floating,...

Which Madonna song should we add?...

No, this is not an April Fool’s Day joke: American Idol has cooked up a fun, fresh theme for next Wednesday’s Top 7 performance episode.
Yeah, I kinda wish Nigel Lythgoe & Co. hadn’t added the “Classic” modifier to “Classic Rock, No Ballads” night — why not let the kids go current, if they’re so inclined? — but still, we won’t get seven consecutive ballads. (What-what?) And as long as Nigel isn’t maniacally offering a meager list of 15 or 20 pre-approved songs, it’s a pretty broad theme, too, with plenty of opportunities for brilliance and/or catastrophe.

Dappy loves fishing because it reminds him of his late father. The 'No Regrets' rapper is a keen angler and he got his passion for the pastime from his dad, Mungo Jerry musician Byron Contostavlos - who managed Dappy's group N-Dubz until his death in April 2007. Dappy goes fishing as often as he can because he finds the hobby comforting. He told Time Out magazine: ''Fishing is everything to me. I've been doing it pretty much since I come out of my mum's womb ... It's something I always used to do with pops (dad). ''Anyone who says that badman can't fish is...

A humorous thriller starring Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy as psychic investigators and Robert De Niro as their spoon-bending target
Any film casting Robert De Niro as a suspected ham has something going for it. Christopher Nolan's twisty, concept-chewing, non-franchise pictures are the obvious inspiration for this supernatural thriller that dispatches smug psychic investigators Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy on Wire-ish stakeouts; De Niro plays Simon Silver, celebrity spoonbender, godfather of gee-whizz, and the pair's ultimate target. Its talkiness – a holdover from director Rodrigo Cortés's man-in-a-box breakthrough Buried – will probably alienate the Paranormal Activity crowd, Elizabeth Olsen has become overqualified for her tagalong love-interest role and Submarine's Craig Roberts floats a shonky American accent as one of Murphy's proteges. Still, Cortés knows how to engineer sharp, effective jolts and broader, Insidious-like funhouse business: making unexpected use of Mungo Jerry, it's the kind of semi-savvy pulp nonsense that'll...

The father of Tulisa Contostavlos has debunked suggestions that she had a troubled upbringing, claiming that the N-Dubz star was really "spoilt rotten". 52-year-old Plato, a keyboard player for '70s rock group Mungo Jerry, declared his daughter's public persona as a "bad girl" to be a fabrication completely at odds with the "comfortable childhood" he remembered. "I am so proud of Tulisa, but it frustrates me to see her painted as a bad girl because as a child she was spoilt rotten and had everything she wanted," Plato told The Mail (more)...

Tulisa may try to play up her bad girl, but her dad has claimed that the N-Dubz is actually quite middle class.
The 22 year old singer has been named as Cheryl Cole’s X Factor replacement for 2011 and her wikipedia page details her difficult childhood saying:
Tulisa had an upbringing living in a typically bad council estate and experienced a lot as a teenager: violence, depression, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, Anorexia Nervosa, mental health issues, financial difficulties and bullying.
However her dad Plato, keyboardist for Mungo Jerry, told The Mail On Sunday that actually, Tulisa was brought up in a very comfortable household. He said:
“I am so proud of Tulisa, but it frustrates me to see her painted as a bad girl because as a child she was spoilt rotten and had everything she wanted.
“I don’t know where this image of her being from the ‘ghetto’ comes from.
