“The Crown” is gearing up for its last hurrah at the SAG Awards, an organization that has bestowed a number of prizes onto the Netflix regal show over the years. It claimed the highly coveted TV drama ensemble prize twice (2019 and ’20), while individual winners through the years were Claire Foy (2016 and ’17), John Lithgow (2016) and Gillian Anderson (2020). Now the sixth and final season is hoping to prevail for a third time, which would tie it with “Downton Abbey” in this category at three total wins.
Season 6 faces off in the TV drama ensemble race against fellow nominees “The Gilded Age,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show” and “Succession.” Elizabeth Debicki is “The Crown’s” only solo acting nominee this year, with her co-nominees in the TV drama actress category being Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).

This year’s SAG Awards nominations for drama ensemble run the gamut in terms of total cast members nominated. You have “The Gilded Age” on one side with a jaw-dropping 34 people represented. And then you have “The Last of Us” on the other side with just two — hi, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! HBO’s zombie apocalypse series has now tied the Screen Actors Guild record with “Key and Peele,” which was the first TV show to nab an ensemble citation with just two stars: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
The “Key and Peele” funny duo lost to “Orange Is the New Black” for comedy ensemble in 2016, which had a whopping 34 cast members nominated that year. Hmm, a two-person cast losing to a 34-person ensemble? Might SAG Awards history repeat itself? “The Last of Us” competes this year against “The Gilded Age” (34 cast members), “Succession” (18), “The Crown” (15) and “The Morning Show...

"You run out on every guy you've ever been with!" Decal Releasing has unveiled the trailer for a romantic comedy called Which Brings Me To You, arriving in theaters in January 2024 next month. It's from the same filmmaker who previously made the romcoms Then Came You and The Hating Game, and this one will probably be just like those two. Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff star in this hilarious tale of love and disaster. Two romantic burnouts meet at a wedding and almost hook up in the coatroom before putting the brakes on. They agree to exchange candid confessions about their pasts on the off chance that this might be the real thing. "Trading candid confessions of messy histories and heartbreak" - revisiting their own "past lives" on screen. The film's supporting cast includes John Gallagher Jr., Ward Horton, Genevieve Angelson, Alexander Hodge, Britne Oldford, Marceline Hugot, and Laura Kai Chen.

Stand back, Marvel Cinematic Universe. Be gone, DC Extended Universe. The power of The Conjuring Universe compels you!
It may astonish those who aren't horror fans or haven't been paying attention, but 2013's "The Conjuring" has not only spawned two direct sequels, but two entire spin-off film franchises that are still going strong: the "Annabelle" series and "The Nun" films. In fact, the latter's latest installment — oh-so-helpfully entitled "The Nun II" — is due to haunt theaters everywhere on September 8, 2023.
If you can't quite recall where and when we last saw the only married demonologist team in the tri-county area, Ed and Lorraine Warren, or if you're having trouble separating your La Lloronas from your Valaks, fear not! The following will not only get you up to speed with the ghouls, demons, and ghosts of The Conjuring Universe, but it will also lay out the tangled timeline of the entire series in chronological order.

“Yes, and you’ll need to pick a team,” Coon’s Russell responds. “Head-to-head and one will be the winner.”

"You don't have to be your mother. You get to define you, mama." Film Movement has debuted an official trailer for an indie dramedy titled Queen of Glory, featuring actress Nana Mensah who writes, directs, and stars in this film. It first premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and also played at tons of other fests including Melbourne, Reykjavik, Vancouver, Hamptons, London, Warsaw, and San Diego. Queen of Glory is a "tightly-conceived, witty and compassionate love letter to the Bronx" that's at once a view into a tight-knit community, and an intensely relatable drama-comedy for anyone with a family. It looks quite good and especially authentic. Ghanaian-American Sarah is set to abandon her Ivy League doctoral program to follow her married lover across the country, until she must take over running a small Christian bookstore in the Bronx. Nana Mensah stars with Meeko Gattuso, Russell G. Jones, Oberon K.A. Adjepong,...

This article contains The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It spoilers.
Set in 1981, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It centers around the real case of Arne Johnson, a young man who murdered his landlord and claimed that he was possessed at the time. While this case, which the Warrens did have involvement with, is the framing device of the story, the meat of it, where the Warrens strive to understand what the demon wants and where it comes from, is fictional and has a neat tie-in to the wider Conjuring universe.
We discover that an occultist has summoned the demon using witches totems in order to gain great power. This occultist is revealed to be the adopted daughter of retired priest Father Kastner (John Noble). Kastner was instrumental in bringing down a cult called The Disciples of the Ram, an endeavor he worked on for almost a decade.

“The Conjuring” has led to spin-offs and sequels based on the experiences of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. But what actually “happened” and what was invented for the movies? Here’s a rundown of where real accounts and Hollywood screenwriting meet in “The Conjuring,” the “Annabelle” movies, and ‘The Nun.”
“The Conjuring” is based on a real reported haunting
The first film in the “Conjuring”-verse is mostly an actual, reported event, if you believe in that sort of thing. As demonstrated with photos during the end credits of the movie, the Perron family really did exist, and reported they were being attacked by some kind of entity. The Warrens did, in fact, investigate. Both Lorraine Warren and the Perron family signed off on the movie as well.
The Warrens really do have that museum of creepy things

Happy March, readers! Hard to believe another month is upon us, but that just means we have more new horror movies to look forward to in the coming weeks on various digital and VOD platforms. The month kicks off with both Ted Geoghegan’s Mohawk and Midnighters from IFC Midnight on March 2nd, and then just a few days later, a handful of titles are launching digitally, including The Dark Crystal (which is a new transfer of the cult fantasy film), Curse of the Mayans, The Crossbreed, Eat Me, The Terrible Two and Flay.
On March 13th, we have a terror-fueled trio to look forward to—Prodigy, Hell’s Kitty, and Attack of the Southern Fried Zombies —and just a week later both Insidious: The Last Key and Welcome the Stranger come home as well. March’s digital releases wrap up with I Kill Giants, Followers, and Pyewacket (which is...

"Is there anything you've done that would make someone come after you?" IFC Midnight has debuted the official trailer for a Hitchcockian thriller titled Midnighters, the feature directorial debut of editor Julius Ramsay (of work on shows like "The Walking Dead", "Battlestar Galactica", "Flashforward"). Midnighters is about a couple in a strained marriage who face the ultimate test after they cover up a terrible crime and find themselves entangled in a Hitchcockian web of deceit and madness on New Year's Eve. The film stars Alex Essoe and Dylan McTee, along with Perla Haney-Jardine, Ward Horton, Andrew Rothenberg, and Joseph Anderson. This looks a bit odd, but it might be creepy & thrilling. The film "offers a layered, enigmatic thriller set in the Gothic backwoods of New England – the perfect place to get away with murder." Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Julius Ramsay's Midnighters, direct from IFC's YouTube: A...

Back in June, the 2017 Los Angeles Film Festival took over Southern California, hosting screenings at numerous locations and featuring numerous genre films that horror and sci-fi fans should definitely keep on their radars in the coming months. Here are my thoughts on three of the movies that I had the opportunity to watch at the festival:
Replace: As far genre feature film debuts go, co-writer/director Norbert Keil has a lot to be proud of with Replace, a stunning and beautifully executed cinematic mystery that’s part body horror/part psychological thriller. Something of a hallucinatory fever dream at times, Keil has crafted an intriguing and chilling portrait of just how far some folks are willing to go in the name of vanity, and the whole affair is anchored by a trio of powerhouse performances by Rebecca Forsythe, Barbara Crampton, and Lucie Aron.
