Since arriving on Disney Plus, Hamilton has been receiving a lot of praise, as well as some feedback that the musical obscures historical issues over slavery. Lin-Manuel Miranda has also already addressed the topic and has been open about the flaws in the production and its relationship to history. Now, he’s commented that ensuring historical accuracy was never his intention.
Miranda’s thoughts on the story have been touched on in the new Disney Plus behind-the-scenes special, which arrived this weekend. More specifically, he addresses the difficulty of including everything he wanted to in the musical, explaining as so:
“I get tweets every day from young people who say, ‘But what about this?’ Or, ‘It’s John Laurens’s birthday, why haven’t you said anything yet?’ And so, all the things I could not fit in the two and a half hours I have of your time, it...

When Hamilton first hit Broadway in 2015, it blew audiences away with its creative storytelling and musical performances. Now, a whole new audience is getting introduced to the award-winning musical with its movie release on Disney+. Whether you've seen the show live or you're watching for the first time, there are so many intricate details throughout, you might need to rewatch a few times just to catch them all. Case in point: the innovative way death is portrayed throughout the show.
While Hamilton, Burr, and Eliza play big roles in the story, one of the most significant characters is the Bullet. Played by ensemble cast member Ariana DeBose in the Hamilton movie (pictured above on the right), the Bullet is quite literally death personified. In fact, the Bullet is one of the first characters to die in the show. After King George III sings "You'll Be Back," she is discovered acting...

Last week, Disney+ added to its library a filmed version of the oh-so popular Broadway musical Hamilton, and the internet has been obsessing over it ever since.
Based on the autobiography of America’s least-known but arguably most-influential founding father, Hamilton tells the life story of a self-made immigrant bureaucrat named Alexander Hamilton. Presenting an old story in an incredibly original and contemporary manner – complete with modern dance and music styles – the musical became an instant hit.
Given how tickets have been sold out for so long, Disney+ subscribers were naturally overjoyed to learn that, for the first and perhaps only time ever, they would be able to experience the story from the comfort of their living rooms. Although a filmed version of the musical was initially going to appear in theaters sometime next year, Disney seized an opportunity to entertain their quarantined customers with this exclusive offer.
But since non-essential businesses remain closed,...

Lin-Manuel Miranda is currently living in the past. Or maybe it’s that, at this particular moment in time, the past just seems to keep catching up with him, tapping him on the shoulder, nudging him in the ribs. The 40-year-old playwright/actor/director/producer has spent the previous week watching Hamilton — the musical about one of our nation’s founding fathers that went from off-Broadway hit to Broadway gamechanger to cultural phenomenon — once again become a heavily debated, must-see national obsession, courtesy of a four-year-old idea. Back in 2016, when...

The ending of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s epic American history musical, Hamilton, is easy enough to understand. As any product of the American education system (or anyone familiar with the SNL Digital Short “Lazy Sunday”) can tell you, the story of Alexander Hamilton ends with his death in a duel against political rival Aaron Burr.
And that’s exactly what happens in Hamilton where the title character (who previously never shut up about not throwing away his shot) throws away his shot at the end in an act of mercy and pays dearly for it. Simple enough! There’s one area of the Hamilton ending, however, that has confounded folks since the play premiered in 2015. That confusion has only grown since the play was made available on Disney+ on July 3. In short – what is the deal with Eliza Hamilton’s (Phillipa Soo) gasp at the end of the musical?

Are you ready for a Hamilton encore? If the answer is yes, then you probably have already watched Hamilton more than once on Disney+. But never being satisfied with only having the streaming event of the summer, Disney has now also revealed there will be a new behind-the-scenes look at the musical with Lin-Manuel Miranda and other key members of the cast, plus a historian, discussing the musical’s legacy five years on.
The new “special conversation,” titled Hamilton: History Has Its Eyes On You, is hosted by Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts and features her interviewing Miranda, who in addition to playing Alexander Hamilton also wrote the music, lyrics, and books for the musical. She’ll also be speaking with director Thomas Kail and cast members Leslie Odom Jr. (Aaron Burr), Christopher Jackson (George Washington), Daveed Diggs (Marquis de Lafayette / Thomas Jefferson), Phillipa Soo (Eliza Schuyler Hamilton), and...

We can all woop King George III style now that Hamilton is now available for the world to watch on Disney+. The long awaited recording of the global sensation is two hours and 40 minutes of pure magic – a beautiful retelling of the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. We presume the show is all about Alexander, as he is in nearly every scene. Although he played such an important role in the Revolution and in forming the nation’s government, the show’s namesake – Hamilton – also plays homage to his wife, Eliza Hamilton.
It may take the story unfolding for us to realize that Eliza was, in fact, the real hero of Hamilton. Not only did she play a huge role in the show, but in American history.
Eliza, then a Schuyler, is introduced with her sisters Angelica and Peggy in an early number before she takes centre stage during...

Over five years after it first premiered, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton hit Disney Plus on July 3rd and tons of fans have been reliving the epic tale of Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
With Lin-Manuel’s critically acclaimed and Tony award-winning musical now on the streaming platform, though, many people who weren’t able to catch the Broadway production are finally able to see what all the fuss is about as well. And it seems that everyone has been checking it out lately, with Hamilton topping the trending chart on Disney Plus and bringing in a ton of new subscribers.
As is the case with most things that gain traction on the internet, though, Hamilton has sparked a lot of debate recently, especially regarding its portrayal of slavery. But there’s something else that folks are debating about, too, and that’s the meaning...

He’s one of the most endearing characters in Hamilton. Introduced as bashful and vaguely awkward due to his struggle with the English language, the only major character in the musical with aristocratic titles—besides the King of England, of course—is strangely modest when standing next to the likes of Alexander Hamilton or Aaron Burr. But the Marquis de Lafayette doesn’t stay that way. Soon enough good-natured modesty gives way to spitting English rhymes faster than anyone else on stage. Actor Daveed Diggs may have even secured his Tony award before playing Thomas Jefferson with Lafayette’s rapid fire verbal assault in “Guns and Ships.”
Yet the thing about the same actor portraying Jefferson is it means we see nothing of Lafayette after the American Revolution is won in Act One. In “Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down),” Lafayette promises he’ll go back to France and “bring...

Every month, Netflix adds close to a hundred new films alongside dozens of shows. With that much content, it’s always a mystery which titles will emerge popular and victorious, and which will sink to the oblivious bottoms of its massive library. Usually, productions from Netflix regulars like Adam Sandler always perform well. However, sometimes a surprise contestant swoops in to take the spoils.
This week’s surprise entry is a film titled Only. It wasn’t made with an absurdly-large budget, nor does it feature any particularly well-known actors. Despite these setbacks, however, the pic has been dominating the Netflix Top 10 movies list for several days and now sits comfortably in the #5 spot. Its popularity isn’t that mysterious, though, when you look at the cast list, as one of its stars, Leslie Odom Jr., plays a major part in the musical Hamilton. Hamilton is having a moment. Again. After being the toast of Broadway and pop culture five years ago, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s tour de force musical is back in the spotlight and in a different context. When it premiered at the Public Theater and then on Broadway in 2015, Hamilton was heralded as a masterpiece that broke into the mainstream with its infinitely catchy and layered original soundtrack, which fused rap and hip hop rhythms with traditional Broadway melody, jazz, and other American influences. And with its color-blind and diverse casting, it also reframed the American experiment’s founding for all Americans. At the time, it was embraced as the definitive work of art of the Obama years, with Michelle Obama herself calling it the best art “I have ever seen in my life.”

After more than five years, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton debuted on Disney’s recently launched streaming platform on July 3rd, making the rounds online after fans relived the epic tale of Alexander Hamilton’s trials as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
When the Mouse House outbid multiple rivals like Warner Bros. and Netflix to acquire the rights to Hamilton in February, it was announced that Lin-Manuel’s universally acclaimed and Tony award-winning musical will be making its way to Disney Plus. As such, a lot of people who missed the chance to catch the Broadway production in theaters now have the opportunity to stream it from their homes. As is the case with everything that manages to get traction on the internet, though, this renewed interest has sparked a lot of debate, especially regarding Hamilton‘s portrayal of slavery.

Lin-Manuel Miranda wants Hamilton fans to know he hears their concerns. The hit Broadway musical premiered on Disney+ this week and has largely renewed applause for the actor's writing, but with the praise comes some criticism. A chief concern among the critics is that Miranda made Alexander Hamilton and other Founding Fathers out to be all-around honorable figures, while glossing over the fact that many of the men who signed the Constitution contributed to the United States' troubling history of slavery. As influential scholar Roxane Gay explained on Twitter, "I have a lot of thoughts about Hamilton and the way it idealizes the founders, and...

With so many streaming services available these days, choosing which ones to put your money down on can be difficult at times. Sure, Netflix is the most widely used and probably still has the best content, but it’s also losing a lot of big titles to the other players. Especially when it comes to Disney’s own service, Disney Plus, which has now taken a ton of great movies from the big N and added them to their platform instead.
When it comes to original content, D+ is still lacking, true, but they are making strides to fix that and just this past Friday they added a recorded version of the beloved musical Hamilton, which shot to the very top of Disney Plus’ trending chart. But it seems not everyone’s happy with the arrival of the Broadway smash.

With so many streaming platforms to choose from and all of them having such exceptional collections of content, deciding which ones to subscribe to can be difficult at times. Sure, Netflix is the most popular, but it’s also now losing a lot of fan-favorite Disney and Marvel movies to Disney’s own fairly new service, Disney Plus.

Iron Man VR on PlayStation VR got some thinking about other superheroes who need their own VR games.
“Iron Man VR is a game for the PS4’s PlayStation VR headset that lets you climb into Tony Stark’s armor. While modern VR gaming is still in its infancy, there’s no denying that superhero games are an attractive use of the technology. Who hasn’t wanted to slip into the leotard of their favorite comic book heroes (metaphorically) and really feel what being superhuman is like?”

The room where it happened is now in your living room, as long as you subscribe to Disney +, where a filmed version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton is currently streaming. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway smash about Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers, became nearly impossible to see after celebrities and New York elites drove up ticket prices. It’s indeed worthy of high praise, though, and high ticket prices, as evidenced by the life-affirming events that take place over the course of the 2 hour, 45 minute run time. But Disney + is where it belongs, at least for now.

Hamilton — the musical phenomenon set to premiere July 3 on Disney+ — began, humbly enough, in a hammock. That's where Lin-Manuel Miranda was lounging on a 2008 jaunt to Mexico, engrossed in Ron Chernow's 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton.
Sensing that the story of the first treasury secretary would lend itself to a musical, Miranda, then 28, started work on "The Hamilton Mixtape" — a loose collection of hip-hop verses and melodies. The project only came to life, however, in the White House. In May 2009, then-President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama invited Miranda over for "...

“Hamilton” fans rejoiced as Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical was finally released on Disney Plus on Friday, giving people the long holiday weekend to watch the groundbreaking performance.
Originally released in 2015 on Broadway, the hip-hop infused musical about founding father Alexander Hamilton became an instant smash hit. Most people had to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to get seats at the frequently sold-out shows, but now anybody with a Disney Plus subscription can enjoy it from their own home.
Director Thomas Kail put together the Disney Plus version after filming several live performances during the show’s original run. “Hamilton” was originally going to hit theaters on Oct. 15, 2021, but Disney moved up the release date in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and the drought of films as theaters were shuttered.
