Chicago – The sex comedies of Judd Apatow have rendered “American Pie” passé, but that certainly isn’t going to stop the franchise from pumping out paychecks. When compared to “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Superbad” (not to mention Lena Dunham’s “Girls” series), the “Pie” farces are shallow and sophomoric. No wonder they’re most popular among junior high schoolers.
Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg’s “American Reunion” revisits the sex-crazed friends in their ’30s, and like “Scream 4,” the film has no reason to exist, except to increase sales of its predecessors. The adolescent antics that used to make these characters endearing are now off-putting. Like Joe Pesci in “GoodFellas,” Seann William Scott’s irrepressible character of Stiffler bullies the guys into doing moronic things for fear of losing their masculinity. Scott has proven to be funny elsewhere (see “Role Models” and “Goon”), but a little of Stiffler’s act goes a very,...

Let me make a statement that, like a penis penetrating a warm apple pie, is anything but subtle and also kind of surprising: "American Reunion" is the best installment of this raunchy franchise since the 1999 original.
Is this something of a backhanded compliment, considering the second film was a letdown, the third was unwatchable, and the subsequent direct-to-dvd flicks simply went unwatched? Sure. "Reunion," nonetheless, has some damn funny moments. Those moments are too often broken up with stretches of needless character development and stilted acting (try taking Tara Reid seriously at this point — I dare you), but when writer/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg dial into what made the original such a hoot, "American Reunion" delivers the belly laugh-inducing goods. Here are five reasons to check it out this weekend.

Jason Biggs, who was already our favorite Twitter celebrity (er, celebrity on Twitter?), put the news of Reese Witherspoon getting hit by a car and sustaining minor injuries in perspective last night. Since the Oscar-winner is out of the hospital and hopefully in tiptop Tracy Flick form, we like to think Mr. Biggs's quip registers as playful sarcasm. Ahem: "I just heard the news about Reese Witherspoon doing a voice in 'Cars 3'. Wow!" [@BiggsJason]...

Back when Nickelodeon purchased the rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise back in 2009 for $60 million, we knew that a new live-action movie and a CG-animated TV show based on the turtles was on the way.
We haven't seen much from the movie yet, but not too long ago some footage and the first image from the upcoming animated series arrived online (you can see it at right). The reactions to that seemed to be mixed, many unsure how they felt about the new look. And uncertainty in the show grows a little bit more with the announcement that American Pie star Jason Biggs will be voicing Leonardo.
I don't know about you, but I have a lot of trouble imagining Leo voiced by Mr. Biggs. Maybe it'll work out in the end, but surely a strange casting just going off initial impression of the news. [...]...

New York — The magic is back. R. Kelly still has it. Friday night at Wamu Theater at Madison Square Garden, the once legal-trouble-ridden singer showed why he's one of music's all-time greats, keeping the audience on its feet for almost all 90 minutes of his performance.
The Ladies Make Some Noise Tour gives R. a chance to dig through one of the deepest catalogs of classics of any current viable act. Surprisingly, almost halfway through the show, he spoke about his legal battle and victory.
"This is the first tour since my court case," said Kells, who was found not guilty on 14 counts of child pornography last year. "I'm still here. I'm still here!" he said with palpable sincerity, garnering applause. Then he started singing,...

Hail to the Chef. Raekwon will debut in SoundScan's top five with his classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II. Rae popped up at the Vma Radio Forum over the weekend, and we had the opportunity to ask him about a longstanding rumor that at one time, Diddy wanted to sign him and Ghostface Killah to Bad Boy.
"I heard that too," Rae said. "We did a show at the Palladium [years back], and Puff had security with him that was from Staten Island. When we got back to Staten Island, we bump into the kid, and he told us while he was up there performing, Puff said, 'I need them two. What I gotta do?' He was excited...
