Less than a year after the previous entry, Manabu Asô was tasked with providing a follow-up entry to the One Missed Call franchise that would close the trilogy in fine form before the American remake would arrive two years after this last Japanese installment. Offering a new take on the franchise that still stays true to its J-horror roots, the film is included in the trilogy box-set released on February 25 from Arrow Video.
After going on a school trip, Japanese students Emiri (Meisa Kuroki), Hideki (Kenichi Okana), Hiroyuki (Ryû Morioka), Minori (Erika Asakura), Mari (Yû Kamiwaki) and Shinichi (Rakuto Tochihara) decide to pass the time telling stories to entertain themselves before landing in South Korea. In February, Arrow Video send a wonderful Valentine to genre film fans, with a bells and whistles release of a classic J-horror trilogy.
The One Missed Call Trilogy- An iconic trilogy of J-horror films comes to Blu-ray for the first time! Tapping into the same brand of terror as the Ring and Grudge movies, visionary director Takashi Miike presents a modern, high-tech twist on that mainstay of Japanese folklore, the yurei or vengeful spirit, in the form of its own iconic antihero – the terrifying Mimiko.
In the first instalment in the trilogy, 2003’s One Missed Call, student Yoko receives a phone message from her future self, ending with her own death scream. Two days later, she dies in a horrific rail collision. As the mysterious phone curse spreads, claiming more young lives, Yoko’s friend Yumi joins forces with detective Hiroshi, whose sister met the same gruesome fate.

As previously reported, Shun Oguri will play the lead role of Lupin. However, we have some casting changes. Tetsuji Tamayama (Casshern) will play the pistol- wielding Daisuke Jigen, while Gou Ayano (Rurouni Kenshin) is now playing the skilled swordsman Goemon Ishikawa. Thor: The Dark World's Hogun the Grim, actor Tadanobu Asano is playing Detective Kōichi Zenigata. At the time of our reporting last June, a number of actress were said to be vying for the role of Fujiko Mine but none of those names on the list secured the role. Instead, the seductive temptress will be played by Meisa Kuroki (Crow Zero II). Ryūhei Kitamura (Godzilla: Final Wars) is directing from a script written by Mataichirō Yamamoto (Crows Zero). Jerry Yan (Meteor Garden) is playing an original character named Michael Lee, an adversarial rival of Lupin's. Also starring are...

Crows Zero II
Stars: Shun Oguri, Kyôsuke Yabe, Meisa Kuroki, Nobuaki Kaneko, Haruma Miura, Sôsuke Takaoka, Takayuki Yamada | Written by Shôgo Mutô | Directed by Takashi Miike
When I first saw Crows Zero (review here) it quickly became one of my favourite Takashi Miike films. First introduced to his work through Audition then Ichi the Killer I was used to his harsh and extreme horror side, but the more of I see the more he impresses me. Be it with 13 Assassins or the Crows Zero films I’ve been able to see that he can enact ambitious fight scenes that are full to the brim with gore and his own impressive style, although Crows Zero to be fair does not use gore, it seems probably his tamest work and to be aimed at a more teen audience.
Following on straight after the events of the first film it’s not long...

Crows Zero
Stars: Shun Oguri, Kyôsuke Yabe, Meisa Kuroki, Takayuki Yamada, Sansei Shiomi, Ken’ichi Endô, Gorô Kishitani | Written by Shôgo Mutô | Directed by Takashi Miike
Crows Zero can be taken in two ways really, it’s either a tale about school kids kicking the holy hell out of each other or it’s a story about coming of age. It’s a tale of boys who are becoming adults and are finding themselves in the world of violence, gangs and the Yakuza. To survive Suzuran Senior High School is one thing, but to survive on top is impossible.
Suzuran, a school also known as the School of Crows is a building controlled by factions of school kids in the middle of all out gang warfare. The teachers have apparently given up on trying teaching the kids, or we don’t see them in class at least, all we see is fighting and violence.

Director: Takashi Yamazaki. Review: Adam Wing. Based on the 1974 anime TV series, Space Battleship Yamato is a live action film adaptation directed by Takashi Yamazaki. In the distant future, the depleted forces of humanity lose a major battle to alien invaders the Gamilas, retreating back to a radiation-soaked, nigh-uninhabitable Earth. Man has one last shot at redemption, a toxin-killing device supposedly sent by a benevolent species, located on the distant planet of Iscandar. Earth’s only hope is the giant star-cruising battleship Yamato, armed with a wave motion cannon capable of mass destruction. The Yamato is launched with an overly familiar ragtag crew of personnel, including angst-ridden hotshot Susumu Kodai (Takuya Kimura), Captain Birdseye Okita (Tsutomu Yamazaki), and super hot fighter pilot Yuki (Meisa Kuroki). The Yamato must race against time and across treacherous space to find the mysterious device and defeat the insidious Gamilas.

Summary: A decorated soldier discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. The experiment is a program that enables him to re-live another man's identity in the last eight minutes of his life which he must do repeatedly to find the truth.
Analysis: Two years ago British filmmaker Duncan Jones delivered his indie debut feature "Moon", a little seen but critically acclaimed sci-fi tale that was essentially Sam Rockwell acting alone or against himself. It was fresh, innovative, somber and overall heralded the arrival of a director to watch out for. After failing to secure funding for his next project, Jones quickly hopped onto the helm of this high-concept action/time travel blockbuster.

Well Go USA has acquired Mamoru Oshii's 2009 live-action sci-fi film Assault Girls and will be releasing it on DVD in North America on October 19, 2010.
The film was released in Japan back in December as the feature-length follow-up to Oshii's previous short films “Assault Girl: Kentucky no Hinako” and “Assault Girl 2”, both of which were part of omnibus action movies (2007’s “Shin Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden” and 2008’s “Kiru ~ Kill”, respectively).
Plot: In the aftermath of global thermonuclear war, the Earth's surface has been turned into a desert battlefield. Three beautiful female hunters: Gray (Meisa Kuroki), Lucifer (Rinko Kikuchi), and Colonel (Hinako Saeki) traverse the barren landscape armed with powerful assault rifles to fight a group of deadly sand-dwelling monsters called "sunakujira" (sand whales). From Mamoru Oshii, the well-known and respected Japanese director of “Avalon” and the “Ghost in the Shell” franchise comes what I can only assume is a get-rich quick scheme to pay off a house note or two, ala “Assault Girls”. The full length follow up to his recent short film Assault Girl 2 and first live action feature since Avalon, the first trailer has just arrived for Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii’s Assault Girls. It doesn’t show much and what it does show has a curiously washed out effect - having seen Assault Girl 2 I can tell you that the post production effect he lays on the visuals here looks much better in proper resolution - but new Oshii is always a major event, even relatively low-budget, quick production cycle Oshii like this. Ann has posted some new/first details for Mamoru Oshii’s upcoming live-action film Assault Girls. According to Hollywood Channel and Cinema Today, the long version of Oshii’s Assault Girl 2 short from the Kiru ~ Kill omnibus will open in Japan on December 19th. The film is set on a desert planet that has been devastated by giant monsters called Suna Kujira (sand whales). For reasons yet unknown, three female hunters played by Meisa Kuroki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hinako Saeki visit the planet to hunt down the most dangerous sand whale there is, the Madara Suna Kujira (spotted sand whale) using assault rifles and other weapons.
Even though the films is getting released pretty soon, only one photo that makes one of the Assault Girls (Meisa Kuroki) look like an amazing mix of Casshern and Oshii’s Avalon has been released so far.
