Last month, Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro put out a call to the public, asking people to send ideas for music by Latin artists to submit to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. It’s part of a years-long effort on Castro’s part to get more Latin art preserved within the Library of Congress and to increase Latino representation across media and pop culture.
The National Recording Registry is made up of works considered “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” or that “inform or reflect life in the United States.

I still remember where I was the first time reggaeton made me look up a song. It was 2007; I was 19, sitting in my then-boyfriend's living room. He was flipping channels as I messed around on my Sidekick when MTV3 came up on the screen. He paused long enough for me to make out the song. It was Eddy Lover in dark sunglasses belting out "Perdoname" as Demphra and Joysi Love of La Factoria swiveled around in their black and red corsets with the wind in their faces. I was captivated: not just by Eddy's falsetto or Joysi and Demphra's deep commanding voices, but by the fact that this music hit so much harder than everything I'd heard up to that point.

Previously a guest of honor at Beyoncé’s Coachella last year, J Balvin claimed Coachella for himself on Saturday night, with a high-octane show at sundown.
While plenty of Latinx talent has graced the festival’s main stage since its inception two decades ago, the Coachella Stage has counted predominantly rock acts, like the Mars Volta, Café Tacvba, Kinky and Zoé as alumni; the shape-shifting Puerto Rican hip-hop duo Calle 13 became the first urbano act to play the stage in 2010. M.I.A. has strong negative opinions about violent video games, but she's all about dancing and music games, as are her other fellow recording artists whose tracks appear on the full "Dance Central" track list that's been announced. Lady Gaga, Rihanna and the Beastie Boys also show up on the Kinect title's soundtrack, which should inspire much shaking and twisting.
"We felt it was very important to launch 'Dance Central' with a balanced selection of the latest, greatest and all-time classic tracks," MTV Networks senior vice president of music, electronic games and programming Paul DeGooyer said in a statement. "The setlist on the disc really achieves that goal, offering everything from 'jerking' to disco, from Rihanna to Young Mc. Whatever your jam, we think you’ll find something to get you moving in this contagiously fun soundtrack."

HollywoodNews.com: MTV and Universal Republic Records dropped this summer’s sonic blockbuster, the “Jersey Shore Soundtrack,” today, July 20th 2010. It’s the only place you can hear today’s hottest artists—Lil Jon, Lmfao, and Pitbull—in one continuous mix. The brand new collection of sizzling dance and pop tracks are inspired by Snooki, The Situation, Pauly D and the rest of the gang. Even if you don’t live in Jersey, you can rock to this.
Rather than simply slapping together a bunch of modern hits, Universal Republic enlisted the talents of noted producer, DJ, and remixer Jason Nevins to ensure that the “Jersey Shore Soundtrack” would play as one non-stop mix. This one-of-a-kind set of bouncin’ and bangin’ tracks definitely evokes some of the show’s most memorable moments “in the club.” “Jersey Shore’s” very own Pauly D even offered up his “Beat Dat Beat (It...

Reggae. Dubstep. Hip-hop. However you try to describe the music of Major Lazer producers Diplo and Switch, one thing is certain: It is dance music. And if their songs like "Pon the Floor," "Hold the Line" (featuring Mr. Lex and Santigold) and their new single "Keep It Goin' Louder" (featuring Nina Sky and Brooklyn, New York vocalist Rick Blaze) already make you get down, on tour the party is going to get a whole lot brighter.
"A Major Lazer show is pretty sick," Diplo said when we caught up with him Thursday (March 18). "We are doing a whole U.S. tour, so we have these gigantic lasers — these super-duper f---ing lasers!"
And with Diplo being from the Orlando, Florida, area, it makes sense that the tour is...

They added, "After months of no movement we asked to be released + still nothing. No acknowledgment from the President of out (sic) label Bryan Leach. Bottom Line, we want to be released. New York — Dominican Bachata act Aventura have expanded their sound and fanbase beyond the traditional Spanish-speaking crowd by collaborating with a range of artists from rapper Ludacris to pop duo Nina Sky.
But the four-man collective's work with Akon and Wyclef in the past really ignited their creative spirit, according to Aventura frontman Romeo. The singer said working with Akon helped the group evolve their sound, but he emphasized that there's a limit to their expansion.
"Akon and us, we family, it's a mutual respect," Romeo told MTV News. "When I work with artists, I like to not because they're popular, but because there's some sort of connection in what we do. And we've been huge...

"Beautiful People" music video from sisters duo Nina Sky has been debuted. It contains montage of Natalie Albino and Nicole Albino when they are rehearsing, doing live performances and spending time with their friends.
" 'Beautiful People' is not just another video, it's some insight into what's been going on in our lives," they said. "A lot of artists have a different definition of what 'beautiful' means. These are good times with the most important people in our lives and they represent the Real definition of beauty."
The song is listed in the group's upcoming second studio album "Starting Today" which was formerly titled "The Musical". The album is set to be released sometime this year with the likes of Rick Ross, Ryan Leslie and Daytona serving as featured guests.
