House of the Dragon’s highly anticipated season 2 is only a month away from finally arriving at the streaming, and one particular detail about the upcoming installment’s episodes may come as something disappointingly unexpected for the show’s fans.
The recent reports have recently revealed that the season’s overall run was shortened to 8 episodes instead of usual 10 with the prequel’s creators noting that it wasn’t up to them after all. However, House of the Dragon’s exciting future may have chances to make it up to the second season’s alleged imperfection.
Talking about the upcoming season to Entertainment Weekly, House of the Dragon’s writer Sara Hess opened up about some major changes that the show’s next installment had to endure.

House of the Dragon fans have been excitedly awaiting any updates regarding the second season. However, it seems that history is repeating itself with a familiar mistake that is leaving some fans frustrated.
Well, a recent report from Entertainment Weekly has lit up the fandom with the announcement that the eagerly awaited House of the Dragon Season 2 will indeed come with a sharpened focus on story-driven pacing, even if it means echoing Game of Thrones’ unpopular decision to reduce the episode count.
House of the Dragon‘s Velaryon family
As a devoted Westerosi spectator, we recall the ache of wanting more as GoT neared its end, and now, that familiar feeling resurfaces with House of the Dragon. The latter’s second season, which will hopefully avoid the hurried storytelling that dogged Game of Thrones, will only have eight episodes.

HBO has released the first full-length trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 (via SFFGazette.com), and brace yourselves because it's epic. In the newly released footage, we see more of the scheming which continues in Westeros as war beckons between Queen Alicent Hightower and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.
The Targaryen civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons" is nearly upon us and this sneak peek does a phenomenal job of setting the stage for the conflict to come.
All the major players are highlighted, with the sneak peek ending on a suitably epic note as Rhaenyra stands tall with Syrax looming large behind her. Who will prevail? Book readers (and most Game of Thrones fans) will know, but we won't spoil anything here,
"The first season was so much about the royal family, that 1 percent of the upper 1 percent that rules this world. All the people in the...

On Tuesday, HBO released the full trailer for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, which premieres June 16.
The eight-episode second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel finds the Targaryens in a civil war, with the Greens – supporters of Aegon II Targaryn (Tom Glynn-Carney), son of late king Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the traditional heir – on one side, and the Blacks – partisans of Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Viserys’ chosen heir, and her husband/uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) on the other. Both sides claim the Iron Throne, and they will kill their kin to get it.
The trailer previews the combination of political strategy, intense action, and interpersonal backstabbing that’s the “Game of Thrones” franchise’s signature. On the political side, there’s a small council meeting where Aegon forcefully rejects the idea of dignity in favor of revenge. On the action side,...

HBO is rolling out some beauteous dragon footage and a potty-mouthed Aegon in the season 2 trailer for House of the Dragon, which returns June 16.
The drama based on on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” is setting up an epic war between the Targaryens and the Hightowers following the Season 1 finale, which saw tragedy befall the former (R.I.P Prince Lucerys Velaryon) at the hands of the latter (Prince Aemond Targaryen). The series was largely able to continue filming last summer during the strikes as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.
Season two returning cast is Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. “House of the Dragon” Season 2 is about to soar onto screens soon.
After Season 2 was first unveiled at Ccxp in Sao Paolo in December 2023 with a teaser, and later released viral dueling trailers, the season of the dragon is almost upon audiences. Season 2 will not have a time jump like in Season 1, and instead solely focus on former besties turned step-family Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) as they both battle for the Iron Throne.
Per the official synopsis, after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), an undeniable rift has grown between his daughter Rhaenyra (D’Arcy) and wife Alicent (Cooke), after their close friendship as teenagers. A rift that’s now a full-blown civil war.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” and is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

“House of the Dragon” is asking viewers to pick a side in Season 2: Rhaenyra’s black faction or Alicent’s green team?
HBO dropped two unique trailers Thursday for Season 2, which premieres on June 16. One trailer focuses on Rhaenrya, Prince Daemon and their forces on Dragonstone, and the other is centered on the King’s Landing team of Alicent, her father Otto and her children King Aegon and Prince Aemond. Taking place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will officially mark the start of the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
In the wake of the Season 1 finale, in which Aemond murders Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon, war is imminent in Westeros. The blacks and the greens are both gathering their forces, dragons and new allies to face off in a bloody, fiery battle to the death.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO/Max in June, said Jb Perrette, head of global streaming & games for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Speaking at a media conference Q&a today, he said it’s one of a handful of HBO tentpole series set to contribute to a turnaround at the media giant after a soft period for film and television due in part to the Hollywood strikes last year.
He didn’t give a specific premiere date. HBO and Max content chief Casey Bloys last said in November that the season would be coming in early summer. Warner Bros. Discover CEO David Zaslav confirmed during the February 23 earnings call that Season 2 would premiere in Q2.

House of the Dragon fans have been anxiously awaiting word on the release of season 2 of the fantasy series. It was previously reported that the series would debut sometime this summer, but that date has just been narrowed down a little more.
Warner Bros. Discovery streaming and gaming chief J.B. Perrette revealed (via Variety) that House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on HBO in June but didn’t specify an exact date. The first season was a surprisingly big success for HBO, and I only say “surprisingly” because I honestly wasn’t sure if fans would be willing to return to Westeros after the disappointment following the Games of Thrones finale. Will the second season be able to keep the momentum going? HBO certainly hopes so, as they’re said to be actively developing seasons 3 and 4 of the series.

Literary agency Verve has parted ways with CEO Bill Weinstein.
“We thank Bill as a co-founder and for his 14 years of service and wish him nothing but success in his future,” Verve leadership said in a statement Monday.
No reason was given by the agency, although the decision “was made after thoughtful deliberation by Verve’s leadership and approved by Verve’s board and owners,” according to the email announcing the ouster. Some sources have said the move could be financial; the agency, with a strong focus on the literary, was hit hard during the strikes last year. That, coupled with a contraction in television, is hitting many companies and the agency may be no exception. The company rebuffed acquisition overtures from Gersh last summer.
Verve will not be naming a new CEO. The responsibilities of that role will be shared by the founders and managing partner, Liz Parker.

The creator behind the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon has given his verdict on the first two episodes of season two.
Writing on his Not a Blog website, George R.R. Martin related how he visited the set of what he termed “Hot D” for three days while it was being shot.
“All I have to say about that is… ohmigod! I am no stranger to film sets. I have worked off and on in television and film since 1986, where I joined the staff of the Twilight Zone revival at CBS. I still recall the rush where I saw them building Stonehenge on the sound stage behind my office, for an episode I’d written. And of course I visited the Game Of Thrones shoots in Belfast, Scotland, Morocco, and Malta. Those were incredible too.

HBO’s House of the Dragon season two teaser trailer opens with Otto Hightower admitting errors were made immediately following King Viserys’ death. The kingdom’s being torn apart by conflict between those who support the Greens and those who stand with the Blacks. And Alicent Hightower warns, “The war will be fought, many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne.”
“There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin, and no war so bloody as a war between dragons,” says Rhaenys Targaryen. That pronouncement is followed by scenes of battle, and fighting between the mythological beasts.
HBO’s first look at the much-anticipated second season was accompanied by photos, two posters, and the announcement of new cast members Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark,...

House of the Dragon is officially returning to HBO next summer.
The second season of the Game of Thrones spinoff will air in early summer 2024, as long eyed by the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network.
The news was confirmed by Casey Bloys at an HBO event in New York this morning, where members of the press saw the first trailer for the second season.
The show, which has finished filming and is currently in post-production, was largely able to continue filming during the summer as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.
Elsewhere, Bloys said that the hope is for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, its latest GoT prequel to start shooting in the spring.

“I’ve never actually worked with so much CGI and so many different elements. It was really challenging,” reveals director Clare Kilner about taking on the pivotal ninth episode of HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” For our recent webchat she adds, “when the episode came out, my friends threw a party and I saw everyone’s reactions when that dragon came out. It was really exciting and fun to connect with the audience in that way, to really be able to entertain and shock.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

George R.R. Martin is no newcomer to transformation. After “Game of Thrones” revolutionized the fantasy landscape and paved the way for genre series to achieve mainstream acclaim, he and “House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal set their sights on another mighty challenge by crafting a female-centric spin-off.
“If you’re going to make a successful spin-off or sequel, it has to have a reason to exist,” Condal said. “There were great female characters in the original show, but really, other than Cersei, no [woman] really ascends to power the way that both Alicent and Rhaenyra do in their own ways.”
That would be Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), the dueling heroines of HBO’s prequel series that takes place almost 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.” Whereas that show featured...

Viewers will be spending less time with Rhaenyra and her dragons on House of the Dragon Season 2.
That news was revealed earlier this year when it was reported that the Game of Thrones spinoff's sophomore run would come in at eight episodes, down from the planned 10-episode run.
A definite answer to why the decision was made was not revealed at the time.
In a new interview with Deadline, HBO's EVP and Head of Drama, Francesca Orsi, revealed the decision was driven by the middle of the season "treading water."
"There was some question about the narrative shape of Season 2," Orsi told the outlet.
"We were developing it with Ryan Condal and [EP] Sara Hess, and we realized that we were sort of treading water narratively in the middle of the season," Orsi said.

It is part of a long-term plan for the show, which includes HBO mulling a green light for a third season, I have learned.

The news comes as production is about to begin on Season 2 in the UK for a likely summer 2024 premiere.
In what is a relatively common practice, HBO did not reveal the episode order in the Season 2 renewal announcement last summer. I hear the initial plan was for another 10-episode arc, which eventually changed, leading to some script rewrites.

Verve, the talent and literary agency, has appointed a new CEO as it expands its representation ambitions.
Bill Weinstein was named to the top job by the Los Angeles-based agency’s 11 partners, the firm said on Jan. 18. “I am incredibly grateful and humbled to be selected for this position by my fellow Partners and peers,” Weinstein stated.
Weinstein, previously a motion picture literary agent with WME, was part of the trio — along with Bryan Besser and Adam Levine — who left the Endeavor-owned agency to form their own firm, which became Verve in 2010.
As founding partner, Weinstein engaged in negotiations with the Writers Guild when talks over packaging fees and affiliate production were hotly debated in 2019, and the agency broke ranks to sign the writers’ code of conduct before the majors made deals.

Verve has appointed founding partner Bill Weinstein to the position of CEO, the first in the agency’s 13-year history.
In his newly created position, Weinstein’s responsibilities will “continue to evolve,” though he will remain working in his capacity representing clients, “an indication of Verve’s continued commitment to its core tenet of advocating for creative talent across all levels of the company,” per the agency.
Weinstein’s clients include J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay (“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”), Sara Hess (“House of the Dragon”), Jac Schaeffer, Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Mike Jones, Adele Lim (“Crazy Rich Asians”), Meg LeFauve (“Inside Out”), John August (“Aladdin”), Allison Schroeder (“Hidden Figures”), Brian K Vaughan (“Paper Girls”), James Schamus and Geoffrey Fletcher (“Precious”).
The decision to appoint Weinstein to Verve’s first-ever CEO was announced internally last week by fellow founding Verve partners Adam Levine and Bryan Besser in an all-company meeting.

On the eve of its anniversary, Verve has tapped founding Partner Bill Weinstein as the first CEO in the agency’s thirteen years. The decision was made by the Partnership and announced by his fellow Founding Partners Adam Levine and Bryan Besser in an all-company meeting with a grateful and excited Weinstein thanking each member of the Verve community for their support and belief.
In the heartfelt speech from Besser and Levine, they highlighted the need to provide additional structure as the independent agency adds resources to its core film and television business while continuing to expand into new areas of client representation.
“As we continue to evolve, we recognize the need to formalize the managerial organization of our business to bring greater accountability, efficiency, and excellence to our core mission of advocating on behalf of creative talent,” Said Besser on behalf of the Partnership.

Those who had read George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels knew exactly what to expect from the Red Wedding in the Game of Thrones TV series. The sequence was one of the most memorable moments from the novels and the TV series, and it seems that House of the Dragon will have its own Red Wedding with Blood and Cheese.
I won’t get into specifics, but if you’ve read George R.R. Martin‘s Fire & Blood, upon which House of the Dragon is based, you’ll know all about Blood and Cheese. The term is a nickname given to two characters who are tasked with taking revenge against Queen Alicent after the death of Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys at the hands of Aemond. House of the Dragon writer Sara Hess told Variety that they’re “currently writing the finale of season 2,” and that...

Blood and cheese: Two words that strike fear in the hearts of those who have read George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” and thus painting a horrifying mental picture of the dark vengeance to come in the second season of “House of the Dragon.”
So, what is “Blood and Cheese”? And why is it going to be such a big deal? Without giving away any major spoilers from Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book that tells the Targaryen family history in textbook form and serves as the source material for “House of the Dragon,” Blood and Cheese are the nicknames given to two characters who are responsible for carrying out a revenge plot against Queen Alicent (played by Olivia Cooke on “House of the Dragon”), Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) and the Greens on behalf of Prince Daemon (Matt Smith...

“House of the Dragon” has made a name for itself not only as HBO’s wildly popular “Game of Thrones” prequel, but also as a show with a large following that loves to dissect its use of the female gaze, its portrayal of a deeply intimate friendship between young women and that relationship’s subsequent dissolution, and its intense appeal to fans of the romance genre.
For just a glimpse at this group, head over to TikTok, where you’ll find users cutting videos on everything from their preference between Rhaenrya Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and her uncle Daemon’s (Matt Smith) romance and her short-lived turn with Ryan Corr’s Harwin Strong, to the complexities of Alicent Hightower’s (Olivia Cooke) ruthless decisions made in the name of her children juxtaposed with her seeming attraction to childhood friend Rhaenyra.

Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke not only made waves on TikTok for their viral “Negroni Sbagliato” video, but also stunned onscreen as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, respectively, in HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon this year. After a rigorous audition process, the two were cast as the adult versions of their characters (the younger roles are played by Milly Alcock and Emily Carey in the first three episodes), both of whom go through a tumultuous time struggling with complicated family dynamics, lost friendships and who is the true heir to the throne.
D’Arcy and Cooke spoke to THR about how they prepared for their roles, their most challenging scenes and decompressing after the show’s darkest moments.

This article contains spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok and House of the Dragon
It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since Taika Waititi twirled Mjolnir and made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with Thor: Ragnarok. While we’ve since had Thor: Love and Thunder, most agree Ragnarok is the God of Thunder’s best. More recently, we’ve become obsessed with HBO’s House of the Dragon and a fight for a more painful throne than the one in Asgard. It might be hard to connect the dots to Westeros, but on another viewing, Thor: Ragnarok is Marvel’s answer to House of the Dragon – just with fewer dragons and no Jeff Goldblum.
Succession is the name of the game in both the Nine Realms and the Seven Kingdoms, with the crux of House of the Dragon season 1 being about who will take over from King Viserys Targaryen...
