Days of Wine and Roses, the critically acclaimed musical adaptation of the 1962 film, will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, March 31, just about two months after its January 28 opening night.
The production becomes the third in recent weeks to announce that it would vacate the Broadway boards just as the industry gears up for one of the busiest springs in memory. Spamalot, which opened last November, announced yesterday that it would close Sunday, April 7, while A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical will play its final performance on Sunday, June 30; the production opened December 4, 2022.
All three of the soon-to-close shows have been struggling at the box office in recent weeks. Last week, Days of Wine and Roses, with a book by Craig Lucas and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, grossed just $364,686, filling only 55% of seats at Broadway’s Studio 54.

The Last Day of August undertakes an enormous gamble, a risk assumed by films that withhold crucial information until the end: Will the audience accept the story "on credit"? A chamber drama set almost exclusively at a house in upstate New York, the picture concerns an intervention three friends (Sebastian Arcelus, Bill English, Vanessa Ray) stage for their alcoholic, wheelchair-bound college buddy, Dan (Michael Izquierdo). Backstory is obfuscated, so the audience is left to speculate about the source of narrative tension as Dan obstinately disregards his friends' attempts to help. Belligerent and defensive, Dan's one-note refusals to admit he has a problem are enabled by his new girlfriend, Shannon (Heather Lind), a "townie" who sees nothing unusual in Dan's predilection for wa...

Sam Huntington has been tapped to star in ABC's much-talked-about upcoming comedy series Cavemen, which is undergoing some retooling.
Huntington will play a new caveman character, Andy, who is the younger brother of Joel (Bill English). Andy, who lives in their small hometown, comes to Atlanta to visit his brother after breaking up with his girlfriend.
Andy will replace Jamie, Joel's easygoing little bother character played in the pilot by Dash Mihok.
Inspired by the popular Geico insurance commercials, Cavemen will continue to revolve around three modern cavemen -- Joel, Joel's younger brother and Joel's cynical best friend Nick (Nick Kroll) -- as they struggle to fit in the human-dominated society.
The ABC Studios-produced Cavemen will not launch with the pilot but with another yet-to-be-filmed first episode, which is said to be delving more into the cavemen's backstories.
The original pilot (with Jamie's scenes reshot) is expected to air later in the season.
Huntington, who played Jimmy Olsen in Warner Bros. Pictures' Superman Returns, voiced one of the lead characters in Fox's animated comedy pilot Two Dreadful Children this past development season.
