There are a lot of themes and ideas one can throw into a simple action comedy, which can backfire and usually does. Role Play is enjoyable because it’s easy with itself and has just the perfect casting for this kind of story. With Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo in the lead, the movie feels very well-balanced, and there is a kind of dialogue going on here with the actors having been cast against type. Oyelowo is known for some heavy-hitting dramatic roles, and in Role Play, he changes his persona to suit this new part, where he is a little discombobulated throughout the whole film, while Kaley Cuoco gets to play the tough killer.
The role reversal is a nice touch precisely because that point is not hammered on the audience. I seem to remember Knight and Day, where Tom Cruise was the one who remained calm and composed,...

A new measure in Florida aims to allow 16-year-old kids to drop out of school and work full time.
An amendment to Hb 49 — offered by the bill’s author, state Rep. Linda Chaney (R) — would eliminate laws that prevent 16 and 17-year-olds from working more than 30 hours a week, impose 8-hour workday restrictions, and guarantee mandated breaks every four hours.
The bill, introduced in September and now under review by the Florida House Regulatory Reform and Economic Development Subcommittee, would relegate 16 and 17-year-olds to virtually the same status as an employee...

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s episode!
Match #1: Pretty Deadly def. The Brawling Brutes The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Elton Prince returned from injury, and his team got right back in the win column as Pretty Deadly defeated The Brawling Brutes, albeit in controversial fashion. When The Brutes were in charge and looking for the win, Prince feigned a knee injury. This distracted the referee long enough for Kit Wilson to kick Ridge Holland, allowing Prince to roll him up for the win.
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Bayley def. Zelina Vega The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this “special” episode…
Match #1: Asuka def. Roxanne Perez The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
One of the most iconic Nxt Superstars of all-time, Asuka, returned to the brand to defeat Roxanne Perez in a hotly contested one-on-one match. Perez proved that she belonged by pushing The Empress of Tomorrow to her limit, but Asuka used a devastating spinning kick to pick up the win. After the match, Kiana James arrived and attacked Perez, only for Shotzi to come to her aid and stave off the attack.

This article contains spoilers for Gen V through episode 4.
The Boys spinoff Gen V is proving to be just as explosive and bloody as its predecessor. Set at Godolkin University, a college for young supes, we’ve already seen the school’s top student Golden Boy a.k.a Luke Riordan (Patrick Schwarzenegger) burn himself in front of everyone, an exploding penis, and Little Cricket a.k.a. Emma (Lizze Broadway) diving through the ear canal of a guard in the mysterious facility known as The Woods.
As if trying to survive the cutthroat politics of God U wasn’t enough, the young supes also find themselves embroiled in a mystery involving Luke’s brother Sam (Asa Germann) and the Vought facility that’s been keeping him prisoner. Now that we’re halfway through the season, things are bound to only get bloodier and wilder from here, especially now that...

Welcome to this review of the 2023 edition of WWE”s Fastlane pay-per-view, well I say pay-per-view but this is technically a Ple (Premium Live Event) because… I have no idea what the difference is other than some countries get to see Ple’s without paying more than a subscription to a streaming service. Anyway, rant over, here’s the review…

The Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight. The World’s Greatest Detective. The Bat. He is vengeance. He is the night. He is, of course, Bruce Wayne – aka Batman. And for 84 years and counting, ever since his introduction in Detective Comics #27 on 30 March 1939, Bill Finger and Bob Kane’s Guardian of Gotham City continues to dominate popular culture.
A superhero with no actual superpowers (except for fat stacks of Benjamins), Bats is – in essence – just a man trying to turn his pain into something positive; a vigilante in a cowl and cape who’s capable of evolving with the times to be whatever kind of hero the moment asks for. It’s no wonder such a dynamic array of filmmakers – from Leslie H. Martinson to Tim Burton among many, many others – have been inspired to send up the Bat-signal on the big screen in live-action and animation over the years.

The latest "Star Wars" series coming to Disney+, "Ahsoka" sends the fan-favorite Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano on brand-new adventures across the galaxy. After voice actor Ashley Eckstein originated the role in various animated projects, Rosario Dawson brought the hero to live-action, starting with "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett." Though specific details remain still tightly under wraps, "Ahsoka" bridges the gap between the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy and post-original trilogy eras. And with Ahsoka playing such a big, franchise-spanning role in the action, there's a lot to keep in mind about the character ahead of the spinoff show's premiere.
For those seeking a refresher course in anticipation of Disney+ debuting "Ahsoka" on August 23, we've got you covered. From Ahsoka's early years as a Padawan in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" to her battle-hardened return in "Star Wars Rebels," Ahsoka figures prominently in the galaxy. Based on what's been teased about "Ahsoka,...

Match #1: Rich Swann & Sami Callihan def. The Good Hands (John Skyler & Jason Hotch) The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Callihan launches Swann into a springboard crossbody on Hotch. The fight spills to the outside where Hotch bounces back with a step-up Moonsault to both of his opponents. The Good Hands gain the momentary advantage until Swann creates separation with a double dropkick out of the corner. Swann makes the tag to Callihan, who enters the match with a burst of speed. Callihan spikes Hotch with the Death Valley Driver but Skyler breaks up the pin. Swann and Callihan connect with innovative offense on Hotch to score the victory.

Rumor has it that Christopher Nolan is not thrilled with the idea of “Barbenheimer,” an extremely online colloquialism which revels in the culture shock of seeing films like Barbie and Oppenheimer somehow exist in the same universe—never mind be released on the same day! Perhaps Nolan’s apprehension is because he crafted a vast, pensive work about the birth of the atomic age and not one half of a TikTok meme. Or, more likely, there’s probably some annoyance due to the likelihood of Warner Bros. dating Greta Gerwig’s own hot-pink epic on July 21 as revenge for the Inception filmmaker breaking up with them after the studio horrified filmmakers in 2021.
Whatever the case, the opinions of the creators behind the mushroom cloud-sized phenomenon that is Barbenheimer are moot. The internet hype is now larger than them, spilling into the real world where folks are wearing Barbenheimer T-shirts on the streets,...

Countdown to Slammiversary: Match #1: Jody Threat & Death Dollz (Courtney Rush & Jessicka) def. Gisele Shaw, Savannah Evans & Jai Vidal The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Back in the ring, Vidal slaps Rush across the face before Evans continues the attack with a leg drop. Shaw delivers double knees to Rush in the corner as they cut off the ring and employ quick tags. SAG-AFTRA’s New York president Ezra Knight says the actors’ union “agonized” over the decision to go on strike.
“We agonized over this decision because going on strike is a very difficult decision. But once we got across the table from them and saw what they were sending back to us, we collectively agreed that it was not acceptable,” Knight told TheWrap during a picket at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Monday. “I think they underestimated our resolve and our unity in the room.”
Since the last SAG-AFTRA strike in 2000, the entertainment industry has completely evolved from a technological standpoint with the rise of streaming.
“Back in 1960, it was movie theaters and three [TV] networks,” SAG-AFTRA New York’s vice president Linda Powell said, referring to the last time there was a double strike with actors and writers. “Now, we’re dealing with the way that streaming has upended the way we work,...

Jurors declared themselves “deadlocked” Friday at the California civil trial over whether Suge Knight should be held liable – and pay millions in damages – for killing married Compton dad Terry Carter with his Ford Raptor truck seven years ago amid a parking lot dispute with another man linked to the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.
The jurors told the judge their vote was split seven-to-five without confirming which way they were leaning. They need nine votes out of 12 for a verdict in the wrongful death case centered on claims of negligence and battery.

“The highlight was just being totally dwarfed by the challenge and trying to figure it out,” reveals Emmy-nominated cinematographer Gregory Middleton (“Game of Thrones”) about working on the spectacular Marvel Studios six-part limited series “Moon Knight,” on which he served as director of photography for four episodes alongside fellow D.P. [Editor’s Note: This is the second of two parts analyzing the sci-fi craft contenders. Click here to read part one.]
It’s been a great season for large-scale, character-driven, socially relevant sci-fi dramas: Marvel/Disney+’s time-jumping “Loki” and mind-bending “Moon Knight;” Isaac Asimov’s legendary “Foundation” (Apple TV+); the sequel to Nicolas Roeg’s cult classic, “The Man Who Fell to Earth” (Showtime); the latest Star Trek” and “Star Wars” spin-offs, “Strange New Worlds” (Paramount+) and “The Book of Boba Fett” (Lucasfilm/Disney+); and the return of the blockbuster “Stranger Things” (Netflix).
But as you break the shows down in terms of their Emmy crafts potential and how they stack up against one other, four big questions emerge:
1. Can “Loki” and “Moon Knight” Pull a “WandaVision”?
What they offer: After the wild retro TV antics of “WandaVision,” Marvel followed up this season with two trippier shows: “Loki,” in which the titular Norse God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) teamed up with detective Mobius (Owen Wilson) to capture dangerous time criminals,...

“I love the character and I really did enjoy my collaboration with Marvel, so if there was a really interesting take on a story, I’m all ears,” reveals Oscar Isaac about the possibility of one day donning the iconic Moon Knight suit again. The acclaimed actor had two high profile roles this past season, as the titular anti-hero in the Marvel Studio blockbuster action adventure “Moon Knight” and as a husband and father whose marriage begins to painfully unravel in the intimate HBO prestige drama “Scenes From a Marriage.”
For Isaac, both roles presented significant challenges, because both of these very different men are tormented by profound trauma on the one hand, or by blindsiding betrayal on the other. The genre and tone of both series didn’t ultimately matter to the actor, because he needed to approach both characters with a similar sincerity and truthfulness. “I appreciate that...
