NEW YORK -- VNU said Tuesday that it had hired Jon Mandel as CEO of NielsenConnect, a new unit of VNU that will connect the company's information divisions in an effort to "follow the consumer."
Mandel had been chief of strategic solutions at media company Group M and before that was chairman of MediaCom, the company's U.S.-based media buyer. He also was chairman of the National Association of Television Programming Executives, a member of the board of directors of the American Association of Advertising Agencies and chair of the 4A's Television Committee, among other activities.
Mandel will be based in New York and report to VNU chairman and CEO David Calhoun.
"Jon's knowledge, experience and enthusiasm are vital to our goal of taking this company to a whole new level of client service," Calhoun said. "His mission is to 'follow the consumer.' That means connecting all of the different information resources across VNU so our clients benefit from clear, actionable information they need to grow their businesses."
Calhoun said the new company will extend the Nielsen brand across all the elements of VNU.
