Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been embroiled in a bitter rivalry in the music industry for many years, during which both musicians have been critical of each other. The latter, 36, recently released a new track called Euphoria, in which he once again targeted Drake. Three days after releasing this diss track, he intensified his feud with Drake on Friday morning by releasing a second one, 6:16 in LA.
This is the latest in their long-running beef, which has gotten bigger and more intense over the past few weeks, involving other rappers.
Drake in a still from ‘Sticky‘
Not one to back down, Drake is said to quickly hit back with a diss track of his own. However, that is not all—he recently shared a scene from Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 2 on his social media, showcasing his lyrical skills and channeling his inner Denzel Washington in the process.

There are movie franchises that are so captivating you just can't wait for the next installment to be released. And there’s even no need in having some sort of a very complicated story in each of them, you just want all the good stuff from the original to be present and it’s good if there are some new details to the story.
In the case of action movies, there’s usually a new villain in every new chapter, but it’s always hard to top the first one, of course, so it’s important that writers use all their creativity.
One of the most popular franchises of action thrillers out there is without doubt Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer. The original movie was released in 2014 and turned the viewers into obsessive fans of his character, Robert McCall.

With things being so slow at the box office in the early going of 2024, you would half expect to hear people reporting sightings of tumbleweeds rolling across the floors of their local movie theaters. Praise to the cinema gods, May is finally arriving with a promising crop of tentpoles to help rejuvenate the marketplace, starting with director David Leitch's much-buzzed-about '80s series turned contemporary action-comedy "The Fall Guy" (you can read our own Jacob Hall's glowing review of the picture here). But never fear! If you're searching for something to watch at home, too, Netflix will provide in bountiful amounts.
Well, sort of.
Truth be told, next month is looking kind of sparse when it comes to Netflix exclusives outside the purview of shows with firmly established fandoms (see: the latest season of "Bridgerton") or the service's usual smattering of specialty offerings, including live comedy events and ongoing anime series.

Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, "The Equalizer" trilogy sees Denzel Washington playing a killing machine. Washington is Robert McCall, a former Marine and ex-Defense Intelligence Agency agent who would really like to be left alone. Unfortunately, scumbags and other villains frequently cross his path, which means McCall is often getting back into action and killing a lot of people.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the "Equalizer" trilogy is ultra-violent and action-packed. It's also surprisingly solid. These aren't great movies, but like Robert McCall, they get the job done in swift, brutal fashion. "The Equalizer 3" feels like an ending of sorts for Robert McCall, which makes for a sturdy trilogy. But how does the trilogy stack up as a whole? Which is the best entry? Which is the worst?
Let's find out by ranking "The Equalizer" movies!

We all have the inherent understanding that our lives are part of a larger system, an infrastructure that's not only the one humanity has constructed for itself but the one that's existed for many more thousands of years: the natural ecosystem of the planet that we live on. However, it seems that our goal as human beings has been to implicitly make our lives more relaxed, more convenient, and more catered to our every whim, with little care or understanding for how it affects everything around us.
Case in point: the honey bee. While it's general knowledge that bees are a vital part of our ecosystem and their populations are declining (due in large part to climate change), it's also true that not enough is being done to help stop it. The action genre, when boiled down to its core essence, is about overcoming injustice: whether action heroes are on...

There’s nobody left making action movies like Antoine Fuqua. The heir apparent to Tony Scott, Fuqua’s films are lean, mean, and defiantly R-rated, and his latest, The Equalizer 3 (which hits VOD today), is no exception (read our review). I’ve been interviewing Fuqua pretty much since I started on the site, and he’s always been one of the nicest, friendliest guys to talk to. I’ve always admired his kick-ass action flicks, so in our quick interview, we went right into how he feels about staging hardcore action scenes that are the opposite of the more polished kind we typically see in Hollywood.
In our chat, Fuqua went into who he thinks could play a young Robert McCall if Denzel Washington decides to call it a day after this trilogy wraps. I blew his mind a little when I suggested John David Washington. He also told...

The Equalizer 3 marks the final chapter in the series and will see the retired CIA operative, Robert McCall, go up against his toughest enemies yet – the Mafia. The Equalizer originally hit the small screen in 1985 and ran for a total of four seasons. In 2014, Antoine Fuqua took the reigns and rebooted the series for the big screen with Denzel Washington at the forefront. Fuqua’s reboot served as a solid stand-alone entry that quickly became a box office smash hit. Its stomach-churning violence took the concept to whole new levels and quickly spawned a sequel in 2018.

Nearly twenty years after the release of Man on Fire, Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning have reunited for The Equalizer 3. Director Antoine Fuqua told Empire that the on-screen reunion meant as much to the actors as it does to the audience.
“She’s like a daughter to him, he loves her,” Antoine Fuqua said of the reunion between Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. “It was so beautiful to watch them together on the set, just talking, laughing. And they’re both so talented, they just get into it, they didn’t skip a beat. What was weird for me looking through the lens and seeing Dakota as a grown-up! She’s fantastic, and watching them together was a joy because she’s a samurai. She knows it, she’s there, she’s pleasant, she does her thing. And it was a bonus her relationship with Denzel. She’s friends with his kids.

Denzel Washington is stepping into some familiar shoes for his new project. The 68-year-old reprises his role as the justice-driven Robert McCall for “The Equalizer 3”, the final entry in the film adaptation of the ’80s television series of the same name.
“The Equalizer” films star Washington as a retired U.S. Marine and former Dia officer, whose desire to dole out justice in his own way and help those being oppressed often pulls him back into dangerous missions. The first premiered in theaters in 2014 and the second in 2018.
“It’s unfinished business,” Washington tells Et when asked what inspired his return to the film series at 2023’s CinemaCon. “You know, the doormen in my building in New York, they love this guy. I talk to them about other films [and] they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, ‘Fences’, yeah, good movie. But when is the next [‘Equalizer’?]’ I’m like, ‘Why do you love him?...

As you'll likely have seen by now thanks to the first trailer, Denzel Washington's Robert McCall is back back back for the third – and apparently — final chapter of the Equalizer movies.
This latest outing for the government assassin-turned-doer-of-good-deeds (even if he often still resorts to violence to get the job done) finds McCall on Italy's picturesque Amalfi Coast, though plans for a relatively more relaxing time are soon scuppered when locals ask for his help to deal with a powerful criminal element.
Naturally, we took the opportunity to speak to returning Equalizer director Antoine Fuqua about why he chose to set the new movie outside the US, the main man's headspace, new danger and an old friend…
Mambo Italiano
More usually found stalking around Massachusetts, the third Equalizer sees Robert McCall instead hanging out at Italian cafes on the Amalfi coast. So is this Fuqua, Denzel Washington and co.

Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington returns for one final outing as Robert McCall in Columbia Pictures’ The Equalizer 3. The third film of the action franchise’s intense official trailer shows the former government assassin is just as lethal now as he was when Washington first played him in the 2014 film.
The third and final film reunites Washington with his Man on Fire co-star Dakota Fanning nearly 20 years after they made that action movie together.
Antoine Fuqua directed The Equalizer, The Equalizer 2, and returns to direct The Equalizer 3. Richard Wenk, screenwriter of the first two films, also returns. Fuqua, Washington, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Clayton Townsend, Alex Siskin, and Tony Eldridge produce, with David Bloomfield, Tarak Ben Ammar, and Andy Mitchell executive producing.

"You seem like a man who understands violence." Sony has unveiled an official trailer for The Equalizer 3, another highly anticipated sequel arriving in theaters later this year. The production just wrapped filming in January, and the release is set for September - this is looks totally awesome already. This sequel to The Equalizer (2014) and The Equalizer 2 (2018), originally loosely based on the 1980s TV series, sees Robert McCall in Italy taking on an entirely different kind of crime kingpin. After settling down in Southern Italy, his friends start to end up dead and he realizes he must now confront the dangerous Italian mafia head on. Denzel Washington returns as McCall, with an ensemble cast including Dakota Fanning, Sonia Ben Ammar, Remo Girone, Andrea Dodero, Eugenio Mastrandrea, and Andrea Scarduzio. Let's go!! I don't know how they pulled this off, but it looks even more badass than the first two movies?...

In between doling out Oscar-worthy performances and making Shakespearean monologues feel like something you haven't heard a thousand times before, Denzel Washington has spent the past two decades cracking skulls and taking names, going back to at least "Man on Fire." In fact, he's been doing it so long, his co-star in Tony Scott's sublime 2004 action-thriller, Dakota Fanning, had the chance to go off and grow up into a fully-fledged adult actor. That noise you just heard was the sound of millions of Millennials popping the vertebrae in their backs as they abruptly jerked upright, crying out in terror.
Washington and Fanning are now in the process of reuniting for "The Equalizer 3." The vigilante movie franchise is based on the 1980s series of the same name, which was also re-imagined as a TV show starring Queen Latifah in 2021. Both reboots retain the basic setup of the original show,...

Sony film boss Tom Rothman took a moment during his studio’s CinemaCon presentation Monday night to nod to a new Nrg study that investigates the most popular movie stars in Hollywood.
Rothman explained that if the pundits are to believed, “movie stars don’t matter anymore,” adding that he really hopes “all my competitors believe that shit” because he most emphatically disagrees. “True movie stars matter more than ever,” Rothman said. “They are just rarer than ever. Streaming doesn’t create movie stars, only global hits do.”
The veteran studio chief used the hot topic as a way to tee up the presentation’s surprise award presentation — a lifetime achievement award — given to Denzel Washington. It was no coincidence as Rothman explained that over the course of his own 30-plus year career, he has worked on 12 films with Washington either as an actor or as a filmmaker with another,...

Unlike last year’s CinemaCon, Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman didn’t have a record-breaking hit like “Spider-Man: No Way Home” to tout from his studio’s 2022 box office record. But that didn’t stop him from cheering on theater owners from the Caesars Palace stage and mocking those who predicted their demise.
“For the past three years, as the punditocracy pissed on your business, we at Sony held fast,” Rothman boasted. “We are the only studio that held entirely to theatrical. We were sure that movies in theaters would not only survive but triumph. Well, whaddaya know?”
In 2022, Sony’s yielded relatively quieter numbers than in 2021, when films like “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” became big successes while “Spider-Man: No Way Home” became one of the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time.

While we’re probably not going to see an official trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 3 for a few more weeks, Sony has revealed the movie’s official synopsis. While we already knew that the film was set in Southern Italy and that it would reunite Denzel Washington with his Man on Fire co-star Dakota Fanning, not much else has been revealed – until now.
Here’s the synopsis:
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.

Skyscraper tumbles 56% in second weekend as lacklustre run continues.
Columbia Pictures’ The Equalizer 2 starring Denzel Washington scored a surprise $35.8m number one debut over Universal’s pre-weekend favourite Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
Despite landing in second place on an estimated $34.4m, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again helped push the studio past the $1bn North American mark for the year-to-date, marking the eighth consecutive year Universal has accomplished the feat.
Denzel Washington stars as the vigilante Robert McCall in The Equalizer 2 and reunites with Antoine Fuqua from the original for the first sequel role of the star’s career.

Universal’s “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” and Sony’s “The Equalizer 2” are both on their way to overshooting box office forecasts, with an estimated $39 million and $33.21 million, respectively.
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” playing at 3,317 North American locations, had been pegged in the $30 million to $36 million corridor, while “The Equalizer 2” was estimated for a $27 million to $32 million range from 3,388 locations.
The original “Mamma Mia!” — based on the long-running London stage musical about Abba songs — opened with $27 million on the same weekend a decade ago and finished with $145 million domestically and $615 million worldwide on a $52 million budget.
The sequel film — which is also a prequel, telling the story of how Meryl Streep’s Donna met the three men Amanda Seyfried’s Sophie invited to her wedding in the 2008 film — stars most of the original cast, including Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, Colin Firth,...

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is heading for an impressive opening weekend in the $41 million range at 3,317 sites in North America, early estimates showed Friday.
Denzel Washington’s “The Equalizer 2” should finish second with a solid $33 million at 3,388 locations, followed by the second weekend of “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” with about $23 million. The opening of horror sequel “Unfriended: Dark Web” will open with a moderate take of around $4 million at 1,549 venues.
The weekend represents a rare instance of three sequels opening in wide release at the same time. The only other occurrence came on the Dec. 16-18, 2011, frame with the launches of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.”

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” has opened with a solid $3.4 million at 2,850 North American locations in Thursday night preview showings that began at 7 p.m.
That was enough for the musical to top Denzel Washington’s “The Equalizer 2,” which launched with $3.1 million at 2,934 sites in Thursday previews that began at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Universal’s follow-up to its 2008 musical “Mamma Mia!” is tracking for a three-day tally between $30 million and $36 million when it opens in over 3,317 venues. Its predecessor opened with $27 million on the same weekend a decade ago and finished with $145 million domestically and $615 million worldwide on a $52 million budget.
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is both a sequel and a prequel, highlighted again by Abba songs. Denzel Washington playing a Lyft driver? No one could have predicted that casting choice. But in The Equalizer 2 – the first sequel ever in the 63-year-old star’s career – the actor gets behind the wheel and picks up customers in the Boston area. God help you if you piss him off. Washington’s character, Robert McCall is still a retired special-ops agent hellbent on equalizing the criminal scum he encounters on his watch. His cover last time was a job at Home Depot, but the Lyft gig gives him access to the worst of people.

As an action blockbuster, the first Equalizer picture had about as much stamina as the good-hearted, overweight cop who couldn’t pull a tire twenty yards; if you don’t remember who this is referencing, you’re only making my point. Sure, it made a lot of money – just surpassing the $100 million mark at the domestic box office – but by the time John Wick came out a month later, and a small beagle proved that he could incite as much passion and chaos as any character in The Equalizer, the Denzel movie became irrelevant. And as far as I know, for the four years since its release, it’s stayed that way, a fact that makes the actor’s decision to partake in The Equalizer 2, the first sequel of his career, even more questionable.

The Equalizer 2 is a case where ‘more of the same’ would have been just fine but somehow they screwed this up. The powerful director/actor team of Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington gave us The Equalizer in 2014, a pulpy urban revenge thriller that had all the trappings of a tired Hollywood genre effort: a loner with a mysterious past, a young hooker with a heart of gold that provided the catalyst for his return to action, and an army of sneering Russian gangsters for him to dispatch in all variety of gruesome manner. But it worked surprisingly well, with a weird, electrifying life of its own thanks to Washington’s brooding presence and Fuqua’s dazzling direction. It also helped that they kept the scope small, focusing on its hero’s simple existence in Boston. The paint-by-numbers sequel, which opens things up with some globe-hopping tangents in Istanbul and Belgium,...

Two decades into his filmmaking career, and director Antoine Fuqua has started to receive a new kind of feedback — from fans on the street. After his “The Equalizer” hit screens in 2014, audiences started stopping the filmmaker to offer up their ideas for where the film, a Denzel Washington-starring version of the 80’s TV series of the same name, should go next. Fuqua was happy to listen, though he wasn’t always keen on taking their suggestions into account.
“I listened to the audience a lot,” Fuqua said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “I would walk through the airport and I would listen to what people would say. Whenever someone would stop me and talk about the movie, I would see how enthusiastic they were about certain things and the questions they had. Those are the things you want to make sure you satisfy.”

In true popcorn-season form, it’ll be a battle of the sequels at the domestic box office this weekend.
Universal’s “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is taking a chance at the top spot against fellow newcomers “The Equalizer 2” and “Unfriended: Dark Web.”
The follow-up to 2008’s jukebox musical “Mamma Mia!” is tracking for a three-day tally between $30 million and $36 million when it opens in over 3,200 locations. A $30 million-plus debut would be a jump on its predecessor’s $27 million start. Much like the hit Broadway musical it was based on, “Mamma Mia” became a box office smash, earning $615 million worldwide on a $52 million budget. Though it pocketed an impressive $144 million in North America, “Mamma Mia” found even greater success overseas, where Swedish pop group Abba has a huge following. At the time, it was the highest-grossing film directed by a woman (Phyllida Lloyd), until it was surpassed by...

Denzel Washington offered a bemused reaction as to why Sony’s “The Equalizer 2” was his first sequel.
“People keep talking about it, but it’s not that big a deal,” he reflected at Tuesday night’s world premiere at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. “Is there a curse for doing sequels?”
Washington, who has nine Academy Award nominations and two Oscars in over three decades, says there’s a simple reason.
“I haven’t been asked,” he responded. “The only time I’ve been asked was for ‘Safe House,’ but that didn’t make sense because my character had died, so they were talking about a prequel. And I was asked for ‘Inside Man. But this one just made sense.”

Why did it have to be “The Equalizer”? Of all the films that Denzel Washington has made over the years, it’s the first to get a sequel. Of all the indelible characters that Denzel Washington has brought to life on camera, widowed vigilante Robert McCall is the first he’s ever reprised. In this day and age, that’s a rare testament to the integrity and resolve of contemporary American cinema’s most forceful star — a star who’d rather leave it all on the field than come back for seconds, who’d sooner lead a four-hour Eugene O’Neill drama than take an easy paycheck. After almost 40 years of iconic performances on stage and screen, there’s really no reason to begrudge Washington for betting on one sure thing; the guy is 63, still acting his ass off, and less than two years removed from adapting an August Wilson play into an Oscar-winning hit.

It’s a credit to Denzel Washington’s career choices that he’s gone four decades without making a single sequel. That’s not to say that breaking the pattern with “The Equalizer 2” means he’s finally sold out (plenty of stars rely on franchises to balance out riskier one-off ventures), but nor does this particular project demonstrate much of a reason to justify wanting to return to the character of Robert McCall, other than a chance to work with “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua for the fourth time.
Thing is, until Part 2 came along to top it, “The Equalizer” was a uniquely unpleasant action movie: a brutal, patience-testing bloodbath in which bad guys did nasty things to blue-collar Boston folks while dirty (white) cops looked the other way, only to have a single concerned citizen stand up and give them a taste of their own medicine. “The Equalizer 2” is getting a lot of press because it’s the first time that Denzel Washington has starred in a sequel to one of his own movies. You can infer a lot about Washington’s connection to this material from that one piece of information, and about his (apparently quite positive) ongoing working relationship with director Antoine Fuqua, who directed both “Equalizer” installments, as well as “Training Day” and the 2016 remake of “The Magnificent Seven.”
But perhaps the most important takeaway is this: Never pick a fight with Denzel Washington. It’s been over two decades since the TV series “The Equalizer” debuted opposite Washington’s hit series “St. Elsewhere,” and now the actor has officially claimed the saga of ex-Black Ops assassin-turned-vigilante crime fighter Robert McCall for his own. The movies may be a mixed bag, but Washington brings his all to “The Equalizer 2.”
