"Last night I tried to kill my wife." Dark Star has released an official US trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Dementia Part II, which is indeed technically a sequel to the horror Dementia from 2015. But the concept is mostly about being old as an invitation for supernatural evil. This originally premiered in 2018 at FrightFest, Sitges, and the Chattanooga Film Festival; it's finally getting a US release this spring. Suzanne Voss plays Suzanne. Suzanne wasn't always this confused. She wasn't always dead either – when an ex-con takes a job as a handyman for an unstable elderly woman to avoid a parole violation, it becomes a choice he may regret. Also starring Matt Mercer, Graham Skipper, & Najarra Townsend. This looks like some grungy grindhouse nastiness. Watch out - this trailer is disgusting, please don't watch it if you've just eaten. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Matt Mercer & Mike Testin's Dementia Part II,...

Los Angeles-based Dark Star Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to the festival midnighter Dementia Part II as part of their exciting collaboration with horror leader Bloody Disgusting, the companies announced Monday morning.
Taken from the pages of Sam Raimi, and delivering absurd gross-out humor and nonstop mayhem, the making of Dementia Part II came out of a dare from Chicago’s Cinepocalype Film Festival and the movie’s producers Jd Lifshitz and Raphael Margules. The two must produce a feature-length midnight movie from concept to finished product in one month so that it could make its World Premiere on the last night of the film festival. The film turned out to be Dementia Part II, a tongue-in-cheek sequel to Mike Testin’s 2015 original film.

The new collaboration between the two groups announced this morning that they have axquired the North American rights for Mike Testin and Matt Mercer's Dementia Part II. The fun fact about this film that it was made on a dare. Universal Monsters by Greg Staples: "On Tuesday the 26th of January Vice Press and Bottleneck Gallery will be launching a new series of limited edition Universal Monsters movie posters and art prints by British artist Greg Staples.

What at first seems like an ordinary online dating experience spirals into a stolen identity crisis and increasing paranoia for a reclusive man (Lukas Haas) in the new thriller Browse, and with the film out now on VOD from FilmRise, we caught up with director Mike Testin to discuss the film's psychological thrills, utilization of modern-day technology, and working with a cast that includes Haas and Jocelin Donahue.

The thought of a creepy stalker as a movie hero stinks to high heaven. Yet the idea that Lukas Haas is portraying the protagonist in the upcoming film Browse is more inviting, in large part because of Lucas Haas' ability to embody complex characters who are deeper and more complex than they might appear from the outside. Mike Testin (Dementia) directed the suspense thriller, which tells the story of Richard, the character played by Lukas Haas. In the official synopsis, he is described as "an introverted man who becomes convinced that his identity has been hacked after dabbling in online dating. "Desperate for clarity, Richard seeks to uncover the truth of who is trying to manipulate him and why, but the more he struggles with...

"Wake up, Richard." FilmRise has unveiled an official trailer for a paranoia thriller titled Browse, which hasn't shown up at any festivals this year. This drama finally takes us into the world of digital paranoia, with all of our devices and technology being able to track and observe everything you do. Lukas Haas stars as Richard, a solitary man who becomes convinced that someone hacked into all of his devices and that they're being used to manipulate and control him. "Desperate for clarity, Richard seeks to uncover the truth of who is trying to manipulate him and why, but the more he struggles with his futile investigation, the further he’s cast into an insurmountable web of paranoia." Scary. Also starring Sarah Rafferty, Chloe Bridges, and Bodhi Elfman. This actually looks quite unsettling. Especially with the Clockwork Orange wink at the end. Joe Begos has cited Gaspar Noé as a celluloid role model. But he may have outdone the Gallic sensationalist with his third feature, which actually does the piling-druggy-excess-upon-excess thing better than Noé’s own psychotropic nightmares “Enter the Void” and “Climax.” An adventuresome step up from Begos’ somewhat more conventional prior horror outings, “Bliss” is as much a movie about addiction and mental illness as it is about vampirism — in fact, it’s held out as a possibility here that the film’s belligerently self-destructive L.A. artist heroine may simply be hallucinating her periodic bloodbaths.
Whether classified as straight-up genre piece or substance-abuse drama in disguise, this is a dive into psychedelic hedonism that succeeds in constantly topping itself, rather than succumbing to shock-value fatigue like the aforementioned Noé joints. It is certainly not for everyone, but those eager for a walk on the wild side will find those expectations fully sated.

For his third feature, writer/director Joe Begos heads into the blood-soaked realm of vampires with Bliss, his nightmarishly gritty exploration of the darker side of the creative process and what we’re willing to give up in order to “feed the beast”—so to speak.
Bliss is centered around Dezzy (Dora Madison), an up-and-coming artist living in Los Angeles that is having a rough go of it: she can’t pay her rent, she is suffering from a crippling case of painter’s block, and her agent has decided to dump her, leaving her feeling hopeless and desperately numb. Looking to forget her troubles, Dezzy sets out on a drug and alcohol-fueled bender with the help of her friend Courtney (Tru Collins) and Courtney’s eccentric boyfriend, Dante (Jesse Merlin), and the trio’s night of debauchery culminates in a very brutally intimate fashion.

IFC Midnight Acquires Indie-Horror Dementia. Mike Testin‘s Dementia will be released in North America by IFC Midnight sometime this year. Dementia‘s plot synopsis: “After being diagnosed with Dementia, an elderly war veteran is forced by his estranged family to hire a live-in nurse, only to find she harbors a sinister secret.”
IFC Midnight is one of the great purveyors of our current theatrical horror environment. One need only look at the history of films they’ve chosen to support, such as Kill List, Anti-Christ, Byzantium, and Maniac, to respect the work they’ve done and their place in theatrical horror. I love going to their cinema in Manhattan to watch midnight movies with strangers and re-experience old classics on the big screen. Today's short is an enjoyable Mad Max inspired film called "A Good Man is Hard to Find." It comes from director Mike Testin, and it tells a western-type story that centers on some warrior women who are battling for claim of what they believe is the last good man in the apocalyptic world in which they live. The short features some fun make up and costume designs, and it's something I think you all might enjoy, so check it out!

In college, I remember taking a class in which the professor showed a public service announcement that warned young adults about date-rape. The overall message—like in any stranger-danger warning—was that the effects of the incident don’t end with the morning-after guilt and that there is a fair chance that it could have been prevented all together.
It could be easily said that Contracted (2013) is like an hour and a half-long PSA, but it digs so much deeper than that. It reveals the daily self-consciousness and indignity endured by many women and the great lengths to which they are willing to go in order to achieve love and acceptance.
Written and directed by Eric England (Madison County), Contracted tells the story of Samantha, a young woman uncertain of her sexuality and desperate to rekindle her relationship with her girlfriend Nikki. While at a friend’s party,...

Chicago – We’ve all seen the girl at the party. You know the one who catches your eye as she walks by. She’s beautiful but alone, looks a little lost, and, sadly, almost always winds up with some other guy. Eric England introduces us to such a girl at the beginning of his film “Contracted” and then spends the rest of the movie’s runtime punishing the hell out of her as a mysterious and fast moving Std eats away at all the things that had us looking in the first place.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
The genius of England is he’s able to keep us looking as that pretty face disintegrates because the real problem is something else. Sam is subject to a perfect storm of rape culture, personal insecurities and friends and family determined to bring her into line with their own agendas. Where it all ends up is not entirely unpredictable.

One of the horror films I’m most curious about this year is Ti West’s found footage thriller The Sacrament, set for release in May. Aj Bowen (pictured at top), who broke out in last summer’s You’re Next as Crispian, is set to star as one of several photographers who uncovers a sinister presence at play inside the seemingly idyllic commune of Eden Parish. Bowen will face off with Gene Jones (pictured at bottom), playing the commune’s creepy but charismatic leader, known only as Father. Buzz on the project is very positive (with a lot of early praise going to those two performances), and evidently the two enjoyed working together so much that they’ve now found another film to star in: the psychological horror flick Dementia.
