M. Scott Havens, who has been CEO of Bloomberg Media for almost two years, has been hired by the New York Mets.
The exec will oversee business operations for the team, with a portfolio including pretty much everything but baseball. The position had been vacant since Sandy Alderson transitioned to a consulting role last year.
Havens will join the organization in January, reporting to owner Steve Cohen.
“Bringing someone on board of Scott’s caliber is an exciting development for the Mets organization,” Cohen said in a joint statement with his wife, Alex. “Scott has vast experience leading world-class media and digital technology-led companies such as Bloomberg Media and Time Inc. and he’ll provide a modern vision and strategic direction for our organization.”
Havens had been with Bloomberg since 2015 and was installed as Justin Smith’s successor as CEO after the exec left to co-create new media outlet Semafor.

A team of agencies led by Hollywood shop Range Media Partners is stepping up to the plate to make the New York Mets relevant to younger, diverse audiences.
Steve and Alexandra Cohen, who purchased the team last year in a deal valued at $2.4 billion, made the move to bring their “progressive vision for the organization to life as it intersects with popular culture and innovative digital technologies,” an announcement said.
Range is working with agencies 4Front and Base Design to update the Mets brand identity – which may include visuals surrounding the team, outdoor advertising and digital presence. The marketing reboot will also aim to make the Mets’ home turf, Citi Field, not only as a sports destination, but a hub for culture and entertainment.
“We have an enormous opportunity in front of us — to both excite existing fans and entice new ones with the additional expertise and resources of Range,...

Brodie Van Wagenen, who left as co-head of the baseball division at CAA to make the rare transition to Major League Baseball general manager, has been let go by the team.
The move came two years into his tenure and just hours after new owner Steve Cohen officially closed his deal to take over the team. Van Wagenen’s front office lieutenants, including special assistant to the Gm Omar Minaya, assistant GMs Allard Baird and Adam Guttridge and player development direction Jared Banner, also were dismissed.
“I want to thank Brodie, Allard, Adam and Jared for their contributions over the last two years,” the Mets’ new President of Baseball operations Sandy Alderson said in a statement. “I especially want to thank Omar for his long and distinguished service to the Mets in many important capacities.”
