Under the flashing red and blue lights of The Late Late Show with James Corden stage, indie-rock band Bloc Party brought the heat with a performance of their popping alt-rock single “Traps.”

Led by Okereke, Bloc Party rounds itself out with lead guitarist Russell Lissack, bassist Justin Harris, and drummer Louise Bartle, the latter two members making up the band’s latest additions.

As someone who’s been forced into the all-night-raving world of Edm (Electronic Dance Music) by proxy, I’m no stranger to Steve Aoki. Roommates and friends alike have filled my apartment with stories about the cake-throwing wild-child, coupled with their desires to one day be “caked” themselves (why waste a good cake, if you ask me).
This is how I entered Justin Krook’s Netflix documentary I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, with a frosting-covered caricature of the generational powerhouse and his performance-focused talents. Not his father’s pseudo-abandonment. Not his hardcore, angsty rock beginning. Just a crowd-surfing ball of fun who hits play with the best of them – an admittedly ignorant view on a man with so much more to say.
While growing up in the shadow of super-hero-incarnate Rocky Aoki, many assumed Steve Aoki was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Rocky’s legend...

Bloc Party delivered a sleek version of their "hippie-ish" single "The Love Within" Tuesday on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Frontman Kele Okereke, decked out in a Black Lives Matter T-shirt, crooned lyrics like, "The love within is moving upwards, sweeter than any drug" over Russell Lissack's dissonant synthesizer and the disco-rock pulse of new rhythm section Justin Harris (bass) and Louise Bartle (drums).
"The Love Within" is the lead single from the indie-rock band's fifth LP (and first since 2012), Hymns, which was released in January. Okereke recently spoke...

Despite their songwriter quitting the band not so long ago, Kaiser Chiefs have a new album out in March. I was informed via a link on Facebook; I have friends who have “liked” the Chiefs’ page, but they’re friends who’ve since moved onto genres like post-rock and dream-pop. Judging my circle of friends – a somewhat limited pool admittedly – the Kaiser Chiefs will find it harder than ever to flog their latest effort come March.
They’re not the only ones. Hard-Fi, the Pigeon Detectives, the Enemy, Razorlight, the Twang, Doves, Milburn and Reverend and the Makers have all either disbanded, or have been lost in the depths of obscurity. Bands that seemed to fit in with the indie crowd – like Klaxons or LCD Soundsystem – are struggling/no more, respectively. Directed by: John Krokidas
Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan, Michael C. Hall, Ben Foster, Jack Huston
Running Time: 1 hr 44 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: November 1, 2013 (Chicago)
Plot: College kid Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe) tries to start a literary revolution with William Burroughs (Foster), Jack Kerouac (Huston), and their troublesome friend Lucien Carr (DeHaan).
Who’S It For? Being a fan of the characters and their following work is not necessary.
Overall
Writer/director John Krokidas is very knowledge about his topic. He could likely speak forever on their work, and what their famous expressions mean to him. But even so, his portrayal of literary legends Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William Burroughs is not some romanticized origin story on his heroes, but one that recognizes their less flattering traits. He presents them in his feature debut as relatively naive freaks and geeks whose first-class advantages distance themselves from...

FIFA 14 is out a week today and gamers still hooked on recently-released Grand Theft Auto 5 are going to have something new to obsess over come next weekend.
Much is expected from EA’s upcoming football simulation title following the release of the demo recently to great fanfare as well as positive reviews in these early stages of pre-release.
And if FIFA 14 is as successful as its predecessor, 13, it is going to be a smash hit.
The last game went on to become the biggest videogame launch of 2012 with 7.4 million units sold four weeks after its release.
And we have a sneaky feeling the latest iteration in the long-running series is going to be similarly successful, and here are 9 reasons why.
9. The Soundtrack
The soundtrack of any game is important, particularly when you spend as much time scrolling through options menus and loading screens as you do in the FIFA series.

Comedian David Cross pops up every once in a while on the Internet, whether it be on Super Deluxe or Bonnaroo365, but the well-travelled comedian now has a permanent online video home. Before you enjoy Cross in the upcoming Netflix season of Arrested Development (just three weeks away!), it's worth examining Fkr.TV, a hybrid music/comedy channel founded by Cross and Frenchkiss Records founder Syd Butler. Though it is not affiliated with YouTube's Original Channels, Fkr.TV uses a similar format. It features an established name in the role of executive producer, provides a regular stream of original content, and, as evidenced by the channel trailer, hits on subjects (such as music, kids, and cats) that make the Internet go round. The music comes from Frenchkiss, a New York-based label that helped discover celebrated indie bands such as Passion Pit, Bloc Party, and The Hold Steady. Fkr.TV hosts...

So the BBC have long listed the nominees for their Sound of 2013 and as, generally, ever it encapsulates a wide array of genres and artists that have been making waves this year and are likely to truly come into their own in the next – something that is often helped exponentially by their inclusion in the long list, definitely the short list, without a doubt the top three and of course the winning position.
The ‘Sound of’ tradition is something that the BBC have been running for a number of years now for those not familiar with it. It essentially entails, as said, a list of up and coming artists from far reaching locations and wildly different genres. It began in 2003 and in its bid to bring new music and acts to the wider public it intends to predict, and usually helps ascertain, the kind of music and artists who will...

I’m somewhat saddened that the more Gothic side of Post-Punk Revival has run its course. I really haven’t been interested in much of anything Interpol has done post-Antics and Editors floundered hard with their third album, not to mention I have no idea what The Exploding Boy is up to anymore. Even some of the non-Gothic inspired bands have started to falter (I’m looking at you Bloc Party), the genre had a good run and for a revival of one of my favorite times in music I greatly enjoyed it while it was in its prime. However Hidden Hospitals and their newest release Ep 002 is giving me some serious flashbacks to a time draped in black and grey.

A couple of weeks ago it was pretty much confirmed that Brit sensation Adele would be lending her impressive pipes to "Skyfall." But now it's officially official as artwork and details for the song -- also called "Skyfall" -- have arrived. The artwork for the single has dropped and it looks like a production intern with some Photoshop skillz spent about five seconds throwing it together. Regardless, what you should know is that it was co-written by Paul Epworth, the Bloc Party and Futureheads producer who also helped pen a little song you might have heard of called "Rolling In The Deep." And while Adele didn't jump in right away, she explains why she eventually decided to team with 007. “I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for 'Skyfall.' There’s a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song.

Bloc Party's Kele Okereke has revealed that the band's new album is heavily influenced by Nirvana. In an interview with Spinner, the singer said that the processing on Four was inspired by Nirvana's 1989 debut Bleach. Okereke said: "I was listening to a lot of Nirvana. I've never been that big a Nirvana fan, but I listened to Bleach a lot when we were making the record. I was really impressed by how raw the whole thing was and how intentionally under-produced it was. "I just like the way it sounded, how visceral it [was]. I don't think it would be so cool to write songs like [them]. I think when a lot of (more)...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
4 (four; /ˈfɔər/) is a number, numeral, and glyph. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5.
There it is then.
Four.
The number.
Just another number. One of an infinite amount in fact. So what’s its significance? Why should Bloc Party use it as the title of their latest release? Their comeback album even. Well, I mean there’s the glaringly obvious fact that this is their fourth album. Though that’s too easy for Bloc Party, too straightforward. I mean there could well be a basis in that simple fact, but it seems more significant than that.
Given the tensions running through the band around the time of their last album, Intimacy, subsequently leading to the hiatus that this album sees them returning from, Four as an album has more of an importance to the band and their career, than just any other fourth album.

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has admitted that he found recording sessions for their new album "slightly nerve-wracking". The band will release their fourth studio album Four later this month after a four-year break and have explained their apprehension over writing a new record. "If you haven't interacted with human beings for a while you don't know how it's going to feel. It all came back very naturally," Okereke told BBC Newsbeat. "I think if we'd made another record after Intimacy it would have been quite a poisonous head space for us all. Having time out was the best thing we could have done." He added: "I think in any collaborative venture, there are going to be times (more)...

On the second day of the 2012 Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago, the weather went from a sweaty annoyance to a party crasher as severe storms led to the evacuation of the grounds and the cancellation of several bands' sets.
The day got off to a reportedly solid start as local favorites Jc Brooks & the Uptown Sound played an early set. Doomtree and Aloe Blacc also played earlier sets. The Chicago Sun-Times was on hand for some of the pre-storm jams.
(Scroll down to view 2012 Lollapalooza festival photos. View our day one recap and photos here.)
But shortly after 3 p.m., matters took a turn for the stormy. Below are some highlights -- and photos -- from the Saturday action at Lollapalooza.
Late arrival: Due to technical difficulties compiling our monster slideshow from day one of the festival, I arrived just in time for Neon Indian's set. Only two or three songs into the set,...

Kele Okereke has clarified his recent comments about Bloc Party's latest album. The frontman recently suggested that their upcoming LP Four could be their last. He had previously said: "I don't know what will happen. But I know if this is the last thing we ever do, then we've done everything I wanted to do." However, the singer stated that he was speaking "absent-mindedly" about the album, and said that he hopes they will continue to make music. "I want to make it clear that I want another Bp record as much as anyone, it really just depends on us being inspired together as a band," he said in his blog. Okereke continued: "The reason we made Four (more)...

First things first: Maybe we forgot to tell you that Animal Collective has a radio show now. It's true! They do. And when they are not making prank phone calls to inform local pizzerias that the refrigerator is running, they are using the time to debut new music. Panda Bear hosted last night's episode, and he premiered "Today's Supernatural" — the loud, trippy, nontraditionally spooky lead single of Centipede Hz, due September 4. This'll shake you right out of whatever weekend hangover you've got going. And in case that was too jarring for 9:15 a.m. on a Monday morning, here's "Day Four," the latest from Bloc Party. So soothing (relatively). One more treat: another song from the St. Vincent-David Byrne collaboration is streaming on their wesbite. "Weekend in the Dust" is the new one. Enjoy.

Bloc Party have debuted a new song on Australian radio. The track, titled 'Day Four', is a relatively down-tempo song that has drawn comparisons on Twitter and Soundcloud with Silent Alarm's 'So Here We Are'. Pitchfork reports that Australian station Triple J exclusively premiered the track, before the band tweeted a Soundcloud link to fans shortly afterwards. The song will feature on upcoming album Four, to be released on August 21 on Frenchkiss. The band have (more)...

Four years ago, Bloc Party rushed out its third album Intimacy, an electronics-heavy record that sounded about as thoughtfully conceived as the strategy that saw it released the same week it was completed. After a long layoff, a solo record for frontman Kele Okereke, and greatly exaggerated rumors of the band’s demise, Bloc Party returns with the video for its newest single “Octopus.” Visually it features some glitchy loop editing, lots of primary colors, and some rhythmic gymnastics with ribbons and hula hoops as the band performs in a run-down warehouse. The song points to a bit more of ...

“Hi there!
We’re delighted to be able to announce the debut of our first single in three years. Entitled “Octopus“, we hope you will become entangled in its myriad tentacles – look out for Russell staking his claim for inclusion in the guitar solo pantheon. It is getting its first play on Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 this evening. There is also be a video accompanying the single which you can now.”
The return of Bloc Party has been bubbling and brewing for some time now, to boiling point over the last few months. After the release of the none-too-well received Intimacy back in 2008, and then the one off single One More Chance in 2009, Bloc Party were no longer bound by a record contract. This kick started an indefinite hiatus for the band, with Kele pursuing his solo career. Further channelling the electronica and dance influences that had become far more prevalent in Bloc Party.

When Bloc Party released Silent Alarm back in 2005, the title’s subtle foreshadowing was probably not intentional. The album roused applause from the critics and led to sold out tours. NME voted it Album of the Year, after which it went platinum. Two more albums followed, but then…silence. Bloc Party has been on hiatus (or maybe broken up) since 2009, but reemerged to announce a 2012 release earlier this year. Four—which the band says "doesn't sound like anyone else on the planet"—will be available from Frenchkiss Records on August 21. The band had officially decreed ...
