Paradigm has hired Kyle Jensen as a Literary Content Agent and Jamie Kaye-Phillips as a Theatre Literary Content Agent, upping Matthew Nutty from Coordinator to Agent in the Talent department.
Additionally, Napoli Management Group, a division of Paradigm Media Entertainment, has tapped Brian Neal as an agent. A 23-year veteran of the television news industry, he’ll in his new role rep all levels of on-air talent in the national broadcast news space.
Jensen and Nutty will be based out of the agency’s Los Angeles office, with Kaye-Phillips working out of New York. Where Neal will be based is not yet clear.
The hirings follow December’s announcement that Todd Eisner, a 30-year veteran talent agent, had joined Paradigm from the now-folded A3. Over the past year, Paradigm has been staffing up with the hires of Chris Till and Neil A. Cohen, as well as internal promotions, having elevated 14 agents to Partner.

“Quantum Leap” is traveling back to the 1992 LA riots in Wednesday’s new episode.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap, Ben (Raymond Lee) lands in the body of 18-year-old Daniel Park, a first generation Korean American teenager working at his father’s shoe store in Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Jumping to 1992 alongside Magic (Ernie Hudson), the pair learn they have been transported to the day when all four officers involved in the beating of Rodney King were acquitted of assault, with three of the four acquitted of using excessive force.
“I remember watching the riots on TV — how unfair that verdict was to the Black community and how angry people were over it,” Ben told Magic as he realizes his new surroundings. “I remember the rooftop Koreans trying to protect their businesses … I can’t possibility be here to stop all that right?”
Instead, Magic informs Ben that amid the riots prompted Daniel’s father,...

With great corporate power should come great responsibility. And with that ethos in mind, comic book creators joined Writers Guild of America members on the picket line Thursday, protesting what they called the exploitation of the most vulnerable.
About 40 or so creators (some WGA members, some not) joined the proceedings at one of the gates outside of NBCUniversal on Lankershim Boulevard, with writers such as Eisner winner Pornsak Pichetshote (The Good Asian), Marc Bernardin (Adora and the Distance, Picard), Jeremy Adams (Green Lantern), David Avallone (Elvira), Emmy winners Shawna and Julie Benson (Batgirls and the Birds of Prey), and Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson (Skyward). Rantz Hoseley, the Eisner-winning editor in chief of Z2 comics and independent filmmaker, organized the gathering.
“This is one of those pivotal moments in history,” Hoseley, taking a moment in the shade of the NBCUniversal tower, told The Hollywood Reporter. “The idea of recognized authorship, the...

A row of previously bushy Ficus trees on Barham Boulevard that were inexplicably pruned over the hot weekend has only heightened the frustration of WGA strikers at Universal — especially since construction on the Lankershim Boulevard side has made it challenging to walk the picket line.
On Monday, strikers who chose to walk the line outside of Gate 8 were surprised to see how the parkland trees next to the gate, which previously offered a shady respite to protesters, were completely cut back. Pine trees on the opposite side of Barham weren’t touched, as were a row of pepper trees behind the fence near the production gate.
“It’s just been very frustrating, trying to get people to come out here and picket these gates,” admits on-site striker Deric A. Hughes, a co-executive producer on Quantum Leap who is also on the WGA Board of Directors. “It’s just very suspect.

Last summer, Van Robichaux ran for the board of directors of the Writers Guild of America West. Out of 17 candidates, he was the only one who raised a concern about artificial intelligence in his campaign statement.
“As far as I know, this issue is not on the radar of anyone else running for the board and while I might sound like a paranoid lunatic talking about it today, in 10 years I’m confident you’ll be glad I brought it up now,” he wrote.
He did not win.
AI has since become the hottest topic in the creative economy, spurred by the release of models like Stable Diffusion last August and ChatGPT in November. Across disciplines – graphic design, animation, acting, music, writing – artists are terrified of being replaced by robots.
“I think they’re right to be concerned,” said Bruce Schneier, a lecturer in cybersecurity at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Abbott Elementary executive producer Justin Halpern are among the eight Writers Guild of America West members just elected to its board of directors.
Incumbents Travis Donnelly, Ashley Gable, Eric Haywood and Deric A. Hughes won re-election to the board in the 2022 board election, while Bob-Waksberg, Halpern, Angelina Burnett and John Rogers were elected as additional members, the union announced on Tuesday. Seventeen WGA members were originally nominated to run in the election, for which voting took place between August 31 and Sept. 20.
In their candidacy platforms, most of the writers that won seats in Tuesday’s election said that, if elected, they would prioritize gaining more compensation — and especially more fulsome streaming residuals — from streaming platforms. Another popular theme of their platforms was ending so-called “mini-rooms,” or small writers’ rooms convened during the development process for a TV series.

Eight WGA West members have been elected to the guild’s board of directors in a race that foreshadowed a possible writers strike next year.
Former board member Angelina Burnett was the top vote-getter, with 1,696 votes, followed by incumbents Ashley Gable, Deric A. Hughes, Eric Haywood and Travis Donnelly. Also elected were Raphael Bob-Waksberg, John Rogers and Justin Halpern.
A total of 2,527 valid ballots were cast.
The WGA’s current contract doesn’t expire until May 1, but many of the 17 candidates made it clear that they’re prepared to strike if the guild can’t get a fair deal at the bargaining table. In their campaign statements, they outlined a wide range of issues that need to be addressed in the next contract, including higher minimum pay rates, bigger streaming residuals, more secure pension and health benefits, greater equity and inclusion, the elimination of free work, and the curbing of mini-rooms,...

The WGA West is calling on Hollywood to consider not shooting films and TV shows in states that ban abortions. The move comes in the wake of a leaked draft opinion by a 5-4 majority of the Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade and let states decide whether to ban abortions.

An upcoming episode of Legacies is set to pay homage to the shows that came before it.
The CW has scheduled Legacies Season 3 Episode 3, titled "Salvatore: The Musical," an episode that was set to air as one of the final episodes of Legacies Season 2.
But, as you know, the episodes have been tacked on to Legacies Season 3 due to the Covid-19 pandemic shuttering production for months.
Last year, Legacies executive producer, Brett Matthews, revealed news of the musical in an interview with TV Guide.
"Episode 19 is our grand musical episode," Mathews told TV Guide at the time.
"We try to do a musical a year, and it's a musical that will sort of revisit our legacies -- the legacy of the show, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals."
It is set to air on February 4th.

The WGA West board of directors sent a letter to its members today that updates writers on the union’s latest efforts in the wake of its new film and TV contract. Read it in full below.
The missive comes less than a week after WGA members voted overwhelmingly to ratify with the new film and TV deal worked out with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Sent under the header, “How Agency Information Sharing Is Paying Off,” the letter notes that “a key objective of our agency campaign is timely information from the agencies to assist Mba enforcement of late pay and free work violations, and enhance the Guild’s analysis of compensation and other employment trends.”

Writers Guild of America leaders have endorsed the union’s tentative deal negotiated this week with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. In an email message this morning (read it below), union leaders said that “both the Wgaw Board and Wgae Council voted unanimously to recommend the contract.”
Earlier this week, the WGA and the AMPTP secured a tentative three-year deal that bring labor stability to an industry hobbled by the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. In a marathon bargaining session that stretched into the early hours Wednesday, negotiators secured an agreement to take to the guild’s membership for ratification.
In today’s email, the leadership said that, upon certification by the WGA’s chief negotiator of the final contract language, the guilds will conduct a ratification vote among eligible members later this month.

After a stinging loss in federal court two weeks ago, the WGA has filed its first amended complaint in its ongoing legal battle with the Big 3 talent agencies over packaging fees.
The latest filing reframes many of the guild’s claims that U.S. District Court Judge Andre Birotte Jr. threw out on April 27, including his ruling that the guild “lacks organizational standing to bring claims for breach of fiduciary duty and constructive fraud on behalf of their members.” In its amended complaint, the guild asks the judge to “declare that packaging fees constitute a breach of the Agencies’ fiduciary duties to their writer-clients,” and that “the Agencies’ packaging fee practices constitute constructive fraud.”
Birotte also had ruled that the guild “lacks Article III standing to bring an Unfair Competition Law (Ucl) cause of action on their own behalf,” but the guild is now urging him to “declare that packaging...

Leaders of the Writers Guild of America have told members that the guild will press on in its legal battle with Wme, CAA and UTA over packaging fees in the wake of a federal judge’s decision to dismiss most of the guild’s lawsuit against the talent agencies.
The WGA sent a message to members Tuesday, a day after U.S. District Judge Andre Birotte dismissed eight of the 14 claims brought by the WGA in its countersuit, including claims that packaging fees amount to illegal kickbacks and were a form of racketeering.
In a message sent to members by the WGA’s agency negotiating committee and the WGA West board of directors, guild leaders emphasized that the claims involving breach of fiduciary duty and price-fixing among agencies over packaging fees were allowed to proceed and will be the crux of the guild’s case. The CW is scheduled to air the new, 5th episode of this current final season 8 next Tuesday night, November 19, 2019 at approximately 8 pm central standard time. So, definitely be sure to jot down that very important date on your TV show calendars. So, what will the CW be airing instead of the new episode 5 tonight, November 12, 2019? According to the TV guide listings, The CW will actually be airing an episode of Arrow tonight. It just won't be a new one. They're airing a repeat of the premiere episode 1 of this current season 8. The familiar faces just keep on returning. In previous episodes, we’ve seen the comebacks of Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell), Thea Queen (Willa Holland) and several more, and in the next installment of Arrow season 8, Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) will put in an appearance for the first time in this final season of the show. What’s more, he’ll be suiting up in his Arsenal outfit once again.
The photos down below reveal that Roy has been living incognito, working as a mechanic and going by the name “Jason” – a nod to fellow red-themed superhero sidekick Jason Todd, perhaps. Diggle tracks him down, though, and apparently recruits him to help out on a mission. Meanwhile, Oliver and his grown-up kids will infiltrate a fight club, an investigation which looks to – unsurprisingly – turn violent.

When the producers behind Arrow said Oliver Queen would be replaying his greatest hits during the eighth and final season, they weren’t kidding around. So far, we’ve seen generous tribute paid to seasons 1 and 3, with more nods to the past undoubtedly out of the way.
That being said, it only makes sense that Ollie and the gang head back to Russia in a matter of weeks. After all, his history with the Bratva is crucial to his background, not to mention how season 5’s flashback segments were largely set in that particular country.
Having reiterated that, here’s what’s set to go down in “Prochnost”:
Don’T Let Your Past Define You – Upon learning the key to oppose The Monitor (guest star Lamonica Garrett), Oliver (Stephen Amell) and team return to Russia on a mission to gather the necessary materials. Diggle (David Ramsey) reunites with a figure from his past.

The late summer 2019 timing of the WGA election for new president, officers and eight board seats was considered perfectly timed for the membership to select leaders they feel would best fight for their interests in the crucial 2020 negotiations with the AMPTP.
But while the battle with the studios is still looming on the horizon, it is another standoff that is currently on the minds of WGA members — the ongoing impasse with the Association of Talent Agents which led to more than 7,000 writers firing their agents.
The WGA leadership is looking to stay the course of hardline approach toward agencies as most current WGA-Agency Agreement Negotiating Committee members in elected guild positions are seeking reelection. That includes David A. Dealmaking in the creative community is in a state of limbo as the traditionally close alliance among writers, agents, managers and lawyers has ruptured amid a highly volatile climate.
Since the Writers Guild of America filed suit against Hollywood’s four largest agencies — Wme, CAA, UTA and ICM Partners — on April 17 in Los Angeles Superior Court, the steady stream of termination letters flowing from writers to their agents has cast a dark cloud over the industry. Writers are essential to job creation in the TV and film businesses. Nothing gets done in scripted entertainment without a script.
Meanwhile, lawyers and managers are scrambling to sort out what they can — and can’t — do on behalf of their writer clients in the absence of agents. The Ata maintains that the guild is overreaching its authority as the collective bargaining agent for writers.

Good Friday has put Hollywood on pause for tomorrow, but today the Writers Guild said it has a very big Easter delivery for the uberagencies coming on Monday.
It’s been nearly a week after talks completely broke down between the WGA and the Association of Talent Agents over the new anti-packaging Agency Code of Conduct and scribes started pink-slipping their agents as the Guild leadership instructed. And today the Negotiating Committee sent a memo to members with news about some big numbers and big names.
Claiming that “over 92% of the members who signed the Statement of Support have already fulfilled their pledge and signed letters terminating their unfranchised agencies,” the memo warns the Ata that a forest full of official letters will be arriving at the likes of UTA, CAA, ICM Partners and Wme on April 22. Updated with more info and full lawsuit: The WGA has filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against the four major packaging agencies, accusing them of violating state and federal laws with respect to the fiduciary duties to their writer-clients.
Tony Segall, the general counsel for the Writers Guild of America, West, said during a press conference at Wgaw headquarters in Los Angeles on Wednesday said the suit against CAA, Wme, ICM Partners and UTA makes two claims: that packaging fees violate state fiduciary duty laws, and that those fees violate federal unfair competition laws.
Specifically, the suit cites the anti-kickback provisions of the Taft-Hartley Act. Under that law, representatives of an employee can’t receive money from an employer, Segall said.
“Packaging fees have caused tremendous financial harm to the guilds and their members including the individual plaintiffs,” read the 25-page suit (read it here).

Now that Arrow‘s final handful of episodes to complete season 7 are in full swing, it’s hard not getting overly excited for what’s to come. I hear that, right off the bat, the leaders of the WGA negotiating committee told the agency representatives that they were rejecting Ata’s latest proposal, introduced yesterday, which included the agencies sharing a percentage of their packaging fees with the writers. The WGA did not offer a counter proposal.
The sit-down was well attended on both sides by the top negotiators as well WGA and Ata’s legal teams. I hear that included WGA West President David A.

The WGA and the ATA have averted — at least temporarily — a looming crisis and they have agreed to push tonight’s midnight deadline five days to try and figure out a compromise. Sources said that the agents initiated a meeting with WGA that lasted three and led to an extension as their 43-year-old franchise agreement was set to expire at midnight. The new deadline is Friday.
Numerous members of the WGA negotiating committee were away including Chris Keyser, and sources said that on the WGA side were David Young, Mike Schur, Michelle Mulroney and David Shore. Meeting for the Ata and the agencies were Wme’s Rick Rosen, CAA’s Bryan Lourd, UTA’s Jay Sures, who reportedly helped organize the sit-down, and Apa’s Jim Gosnell, who serves as Ata President.

Despite the fact that Arrow will be reaching its conclusion next season, that doesn’t mean we can overlook what’s happening before then. Don’t forget, we still have five episodes remaining in the current season, and it’s around this time that the series normally kicks things into high gear.
Based on what we’ve just learned, the episode titled “Spartan” will be something no fan of the show will want to miss. Here, take a look at the official synopsis and then we’ll discuss it further:
Ernie Hudson (“Ghostbusters”) Guest Stars — After the Ninth Circle delivers a major setback for Team Arrow, Diggle (David Ramsey) reluctantly reaches out to a Four-Star General of the Defense Intelligence Agency (guest star Ernie Hudson) for help, despite unresolved tension from their past. Meanwhile, Oliver (Stephen Amell) discovers a piece of information that he believes will turn Emiko (Sea Shimooka) against the Ninth Circle.

If anything, the current season of Arrow is making for some strange bedfellows. With Oliver Queen now being behind bars, the rest of Star City’s costumed club have moved on with their lives in various ways, though not all of them are adjusting to civilian life as well.
Obviously, the person taking Ollie’s incarceration hardest is that of his wife, Felicity Smoak, who’s been behaving in atypical fashion of late. I guess when you feel as though you have nothing left to lose you’re not going to be the same man or woman you were before.
Based on the gallery of images promoting next week’s episode, “The Demon,” Felicity will manage to put aside any hard feelings when she, Dinah Drake and Earth-2’s Laurel Lance work in unison to free Oliver from Slabside. Already, the women more commonly known as Black Canary and Black...

From VancouverFilm.Net, take a look at the "Arrow" episode "The Demon," written by Benjamin Raab, Deric A. Hughes and directed by Mark Bunting, airing November 12, 2018 on The CW:
"...'Felicity' (Emily Bett Rickards) learns something new about 'Oliver' (Stephen Amell) that shocks her.
"Meanwhile, 'Diggle' (David Ramsey) asks 'Curtis' (Echo Kellum) to go undercover for 'Argus'.
"Then 'Dinah' (Juliana Harkavy) goes to work with an unlikely ally..."

If anything, tonight’s episode of Arrow showed us how the flash forwards are quickly becoming more intriguing than whatever’s going on in the present. I mean, when Roy Harper gives us a tour of a dystopic future where Dinah Drake is an aging Black Canary and has taken Wild Dog’s daughter under her wing, how can you not expect me to favor that unfolding mystery?
Still, there’s no guarantee of that being explored next week, as the first promo for “The Demon” focuses entirely on Oliver Queen’s ongoing misfortunes. After being subjected to some psychiatric “rehabilitation” by Slabside’s top shelf shrink in “Level Two,” our hero seems as though he’s ready to lose his marbles.
Considering how the footage provided shows him ready to kick some serious ass, it’s fair to say he’ll be doing more than sitting on a bench seven days from now.

Last month, when it was revealed that this season of Arrow would include an episode titled “The Demon,” I’m sure we weren’t the only ones who immediately thought of the League of Assassins. I mean, Matt Nable’s iteration of Ra’s al Ghul may be dead and so, too, is his successor in Malcolm Merlyn, but Nyssa al Ghul is still out there somewhere. And though Talia is presumed dead after season 5’s finale, I must remind you that we never saw a body.
Well, now that the official synopsis for said episode has arrived, I’m not so sure if the connection can still be made because there’s no hint of anyone from the al Ghul lineage being involved. Here, take a look for yourself:
Felicty Discovers A Secret About Oliver; Curtis Goes Undercover — Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) learns something new about Oliver (Stephen Amell) that shocks her.
