Although not all of his peers have have been quite as lucky, the Ya community is filled with writers hoping their work -- which has been optioned, is in development, or is just a month or so away from hitting the big screen -- will manage to satisfy both existing fans of the book and moviegoers who've never heard of the book.
We caught up with several young adult authors at the annual Book Expo America, and found out which adaptations are their personal favorites, and the results range from childhood classics ("A Christmas Carol") to newer, trippier fare ("Adaptation"). Here are 11 Ya authors' picks for best adaptation.

Chicago Fire is going to find itself under an intense magnifying glass for its second season and will introduce a new character to keep everyone on their toes. You might have heard of Michelle Forbes, known for playing the insane Maryann Forrester on True Blood and the endlessly depressing Mitch Larsen on the first two seasons of The Killing. There’s nothing I’ve liked less than these two characters she’s played and I pray the woman she’s going to be playing on Chicago Fire is ten times more tolerable, but I won’t be getting my hopes too high when her very mission is to scrutinize.

Exclusive: After seeing so many of his novels turned into films, Nick Hornby is taking on the work of a peer. He has signed to write the script for Wild, the bestselling Cheryl Strayed memoir that Pacific Standard’s Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea have set up with River Road Entertainment’s Bill Pohlad. Witherspoon and Papandrea will produce with Pohlad, who’ll finance development. In Wild, Strayed tells the inspiring story of a woman who tries to rebuild her shattered life by taking on a mission not seen in film since Forrest Gump ran across the country. Traumatized by the death of her mother and then the breakup of her marriage, Strayed made the impulsive decision to try regaining her mojo by taking on an 1100-mile solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State. Despite no experience in long-distance hiking,...

I guess my "uhm... what?" quota for news today hadn't been adequately filled by James Franco playing an "evil meth magnate named Gator," because here we are talking about Reese Witherspoon and Summit Entertainment (the Twilight shit) working together to adapt Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp. The book, by Cartoon Network staff writer M.A. Larson (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic) technically hasn't been published yet, but when has that ever stopped anybody? It hasn't,...

Back in March, Reese Witherspoon and her newly-formed Pacific Standard made their first purchase with M.A. Larson‘s debut novel, Pennyroyal’s Princess Boot Camp. The actress has been doing plenty of other things in the meantime — shooting Devil’s Knot with Atom Egoyan, conducting other pick-ups, and so on — but the thing’s starting to become a bigger priority, thanks in full to Summit Entertainment.
Deadline tells us the company have opted to imbue Boot Camp with their powers of distribution, thus giving Witherspoon the task of compiling its complete team and getting things into shooting shape. Larson herself will write the screenplay, suggesting it’ll stick well to the book’s story: a young, orphaned girl is sent to Pennyroyal Boot Camp, whereat those of her sort are trained to be warriors capable of battling witches. (It’s fantasy, you know?) The actress will produce and take a...

Summit Entertainment has acquired the feature film rights to Reese Witherspoon's fantasy movie Pennyroyal’s Boot Camp. The film is based on an unpublished novel by M.A. Larson, and the story follows an "orphaned girl who travels to the Pennyroyal Boot Camp where she and her friends train to become warrior princesses in order to defeat an ever-growing threat of wicked witches."
The premise of the story is kind of cool. I like the idea of little girl princesses battling an army of witches. It's something my girls will definitely enjoy watching! Witherspoon is producing the film and will also take on a supporting role.
Does this sound like a fun story to you?

Reese Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard, a production company that the actress formed earlier this month, has decided on its first project, and it sounds like something that could be both popular among and enriching for little girls. Witherspoon and her people have decided to adapt M.A. Larson’s “Pennyroyal’s Princess Boot Camp” series of children’s novels, which are apparently about a boot camp where young princesses are trained to do battle against wicked witches. According to Heat Vision, Larson’s first “Princess” book is his debut as an author, and he’s set the series up as a two-book deal with Putnam publishing. A Googling of these “Princess” books and a children’s author named M.A. Larson is currently bringing up next to nothing, so it appears that the debut in this series has yet to be released. We’ll just have to trust Witherspoon’s word that they actually exist somewhere. About...

Michelle Forbes has revealed that she was drawn to her role on The Killing as it allows her to explore "the human condition". The actress, who plays grieving mother Mitch Larson in the AMC drama, confessed that while she loves the opportunity to delve into heavier material, she often finds the shooting process difficult and draining as it forces her to visit "devastating" emotions. Or at least that’s the distinct impression the affable actress left us with during a recent one-on-one in which Forbes took the time to discuss the year’s most addictive new series, the toll playing television’s most honest portrait of grief takes on a person, and why the resolution of spring’s most talked-about mystery may just leave viewers with more questions than answers!
Who killed Rosie Larson?!
Michelle Forbes: I have no bloody idea!
On a slightly more serious note, having finished shooting the season would it be safe to assume that you know the answer to that question?...
