If it weren’t for Fight Club — and, yes, that’s one big “if” — it’d be hard to deny that Chuck Palahniuk and film don’t exactly mix. Discounting one other film — the slightly funny but, really, blander-than-you’d-hope Sam Rockwell-starrer, Choke — all other adaptations have sputtered out before things could actually get going. Francis Lawrence had Survivor, but the story proved too alienating for audiences; Invisible Monsters has been optioned, but we have no idea where that’s gone in about a year; and a cast was even assembled for Snuff, but… you get the idea.
Yet there is hope for the lattermost, as Variety says Immortal Transmedia — who were, most prolifically, involved with Kick-Ass and Harmony Korine‘s Mister Lonely — Aperture Entertainment, and co-writer Golan Ramras are all producing a revived version of the film. Variety doesn’t mention Tom Sizemore or Thora Birch as “returning” stars,...

Like Fight Club and Choke, it looks as though Chuck Palahniuk’s 2011 novel, Snuff, will be getting film treatment. According to Cinemablend, the project has just found financing and will continue along the road to production. Jean Pierre Magro and Dean O’Toole of Kick-Ass production fame will back the film. Golan Ramras and Fabien Martorell (who is also set to direct Snuff) wrote the script....

Fabien Martorell's Snuff adaptation is moving forward after receiving funding from Immortal Transmedia. The Tromatized: Meet Lloyd Kaufman writer will bring Chuck Palahniuk's novel to the big screen based on a script he penned with Golan Ramras, Variety reports. Snuff follows a porn star named Cassie Wright who is on a mission to break the world record for serial fornication on camera by having sex with 600 men. The story is told from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137 and Mr. 600 as they wait in line. Daryl Hannah has been linked with the lead role of Wright, with (more)...

While "Fight Club" will probably always be the high bar never to be reached again for adaptations of Chuck Palahniuk's work on the big screen, filmmakers will keep trying. "Choke" came and went and was mostly a disappointment, but "Snuff" should be an interesting gamble. The author's book about an aging porn star who decides to cap off her career by having sex with 600 men in one day, with the story told through the eyes of three men who are lining up to do the deed with her, should be challenging to say the least. And while we never thought financing would come through for a project that presumably has a very niche appeal, money is coming.

French helmer Fabien Martorell is set to adapt and direct Snuff written by NY Times Best seller/cult sensation Chuck Palahniuk.
Martorell will direct the script that he co-wrote with Golan Ramras. Producers Jean Pierre Magro and Dean O’Toole will finance and produce through their London-based Immortal Transmedia along with Ramras, Martorell and Aperture Entertainment's Adam Goldworm.
Snuff is described as "an R-rated story of love and redemption set in the green room of the world's biggest gang bang; porn priestess Cassie Wright intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication on camera with 600 men. Snuff unfolds from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Mr. 600, who await their turn on camera and are each connected to Cassie in strange ways. Like in all of Palahniuk's twisted tales, nobody is who they seem to be and things are going to get worse before they get better.

There was a time when any announcement about a Chuck Palahniuk book being adapted for the big screen might have seemed exciting, but 12 years after the release of Fight Club, I'm starting to think that some of the luster has worn off. I was a fan of Chucky P.'s earlier work, but somehow it seems that the more he branches out and experiments with his writing, the more his edginess is beginning to feel forced. After Clark Gregg turned in a serviceable yet ultimately bland version of Choke, it reinforced the fact that without someone like David Fincher at the helm, his books do not automatically become cinematic masterpieces. Now Palahniuk's third book Invisible Monsters is about to make the jump to the screen, and the man who will make it happen is TV director Samir Rehem (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Skins). Yay? Invisible Monsters was Palahniuk's third published book,...

Several recent stories, two of which are based on quotes from filmmakers, have been shot down it seems.
Yesterday "I Am Number Four" director DJ Caruso told The Playlist about his planned adaptation of the novel "Beat the Reaper" with Fox and Appian Way and hoped Leonardo DiCaprio would appear in the film. /Film now reports that "there is no directorial or development deal in place... for now that one isn’t happening. It could…but not yet."
Talk emerged yesterday at Comic Book Movie that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's role in the upcoming "The Dark Knight Rises" was that of Alberto Falcone, aka Holiday. Turns out that site jumped the gun, taking a speculative tweet from an IGN writer out of context, Cbm has since pulled the article (thanks to Batman on Film for help on that one).

There's been a lot of jumping the gun lately when it comes to casting announcements, and, surprisingly, most of it has been from directors and producers rather than press. So here's an attempt to quickly set the story straight on several diverse projects: David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, the adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel Snuff, and Beat the Reaper. First up is Cosmopolis. Colin Farrell and Marion Cotillard were originally attached, but he left to do Total Recall (replaced with Robert Pattinson) and she left to have a baby. There was word that Keira Knightley might be the new lead actress, bolstered by the fact that the French financing company put her name in a cast list on their website. (Doesn't hurt that Ms. Knightley is also in David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method, now in post-production.) But whatever was happening there is no longer happening, as Up and Comers...

Daryl Hannah is upset that an explosion of web reports have her starring as an aging porn star who tries to break a record by having sex with 600 men in a single day. The reports say she will star in Snuff, a Fabien Martorell adaptation a novel by Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk. According to her reps, Hannah has never heard of the project; an outspoken advocate who speaks out against the sex trafficking of children, she is embarrassed by this and has no plans to take part, I'm told.

Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club, is having another of his stories, Snuff, adapted for the screen. Fabien Martorell is set to direct this story of a porn star (Cassie Wright) who decides to film a 600-person strong gang bang before retiring. Daryl Hannah, who was plucked from relative obscurity by Tarantino for Kill Bill before retreating once again into the wilderness, will play Cassie Wright.
The story is told from the point of view of three of the men in line to participate in Cassie’s swan-song, each of whom are identified only by their numbers, Mr 72, Mr 137 and Mr 600. Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, True Romance) has been cast as Mr 600, being the man who first introduced Cassie to the adult entertainment industry. He in turn introduces us to each of the others waiting in line. There is no news yet on who will play...

Some books seem like a natural fit for a movie adaptation. Chuck Palahniuk’s Snuff is not one of those books. A kind of thriller set in the porn world, Snuff follows an aging porn star’s quest to break the world record for onscreen fornication — with 600 men. Most of the characters are naked for the majority of the book, and the final orgy sequence makes Caligula look like, well, something much less disturbing than Caligula. But according to Chuck Palahniuk’s official website, the Snuff movie is happening. Personally, I’m a little bit intrigued to see just what,...

David Fincher's Fight Club catapulted Chuck Palahniuk to fame, and since then very few of his books have been published without also getting optioned as a possible film adaptation. Strangely, only one other Palahniuk book has actually made it to the big screen thus far, and Clark Gregg's middling take on Choke proved that the success of Fight Club was due to a lot more than just the source material. While Survivor [1], Haunted [2] and Invisible Monsters all appear to be stuck in development hell, we are now starting to see some movement on one of Palahniuk's more recent novels, Snuff. A director is attached, a script has been written, and now a number of actors have signed on including Darryl Hannah, Thora Birch, and Tom Sizemore. Yes, that's right... Tom Sizemore. We'll kick things off today with a couple of items on soon-to-be Oscar winner Christian Bale. He appears set to reunite with his The Machinist director Brad Anderson on an adaptation of J.G. Ballard's novel Concrete Island. Here's how Anderson describes the project to Edward Douglas of Shock Till You Drop: "The best way to describe it is it's like an urban Robinson Crusoe story - a guy crashes a car into a highway interchange and is marooned in this weedy lot, injured, and can't escape and he's basically trying to survive in the middle of the big urban Metropolis. It's sort of a crazy, cool Ballard-esque type story, but Christian's on board to do that when we can fit it into his schedule, of course." Anderson is also working on a movie called Jack with Samuel L. Jackson and Liev Schreiber on board, which Anderson describes as the...

Perhaps the most unlikely book adaptation in development right now – Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk has just announced on his blog that Daryl Hannah is to star in a big screen version of his novel Snuff, where the Kill Bill actress would play aging porn star Cassie Wright who wants to retire breaking porn records by filming herself having sex with 600 men in one day!
The film is told via the p.o.v. of three specific men who are to nail her, including Tom Sizemore as ‘Mr. 600′ who got Hannah’s pornstar into the business and is the last to do the deed with her. Thora Birch, perhaps not coincidentally the daughter of a porn star, supports as her talent agent who must get all the 600 men organised and rounded-up.

Daryl Hannah, Tom Sizemore, and Thora Birch have all signed on for the adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's 2008 novel "Snuff" reports ChuckPalahniuk.net.
The story centers on an aging porn star, Cassie Wright (Daryl Hannah), who tries to set the record for the biggest gang-bang in history by screwing six hundred men on camera in one day.
Despite the subject matter, there's little actual sex in the book as it focuses on three men bonding through their future sexual conquest. Things get more twisted as a few claim she is their misplaced mother yet still plan to have sex with her.
Sizemore will play Mr. 600, the man who introduced Cassie to the industry, while Birch will play Cassie's personal assistant. French filmmaker Fabien Martorell will direct from a script he is co-writing with Karina Wilson.

Here’s some mighty interesting news, a new adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Snuff is in the works and it has scored itself three cast members. Fabien Martorell the director sent word to Palahniuk’s official site about the casting news.
To set the scene here is the synopsis for Snuff (Amazon): Cassie Wright, porn priestess, intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication porn movies, on camera, with six hundred men. Snuff unfolds through the perspectives of Mr. 600, Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Wright’s personal assistant, Sheila. With his satirical narrative and thorough research, Chuck Palahniuk reveals through these four characters the little-known facts and histories of not only pornography and sexual deviance, but also acting and life in and out of the spotlight, and throughout the novel shows the rarely acknowledged presence of pornography in modern America.

I’ve read Chuck Palahniuk’s Snuff. It is a deliriously f*cked up novel that follows a porn star who organizes the world’s largest gangbang to break the ultimate record for most sexual partners in one film. The entire time I was reading it, I was imagining how a film adaptation would be simply impossible, unless you strip away every raunchy element, in which case you would be left with almost nothing. The climax (no pun intended) of the film alone is enough to warrant at least an X rating.
We’ve seen Palahniuk’s work adapted before with Fight Club and Choke. Even Haunted, Invisible Monsters, Survivor, Rant, Diary, and Lullaby have been rumored to get the bigscreen treatment, but never would I have imagined Snuff. It looks like it is happening though, as chuckpalahniuk.net (via /Film) report casting.

While authors often see their work absolutely decimated and destroyed by the Hollywood machine, Chuck Palahniuk continues to have a perfect batting average. Albeit only two of his novels have been adapted, Fight Club and Choke, both are seen as solid representations of Palahniuk's work (even if they do tweak a few things here or there). Risking his perfect score, a third movie is now in development based on his 2008 novel Snuff, and now the adaptation has landed its first three cast members. Palahniuk's official site, ChuckPalahniuk.net, has revealed that Tom Sizemore, Daryl Hannah and Thora Birch are all officially attached to the project, which is being directed and co-written by Fabien Martorell. Good lord, does Snuff sound horrifying. Author Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club) has just posted on his blog that the first three pieces of casting for the adaptation of his book, Snuff, are; Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill), Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan) and Thora Birch (Ghost World). Hannah will play an aging porn star who decides to hold the mother of all record attempts; lay 600 dudes in the world's largest, er, group...sex...event. If you've read the book, which I have, then you'll know how absolutely sleazy, grimy, sweaty and altogether filthy the material is, so it'll be interesting to see how it crosses over into mainstream cinema. It'll be directed by Fabien Martorell, who, from his IMDb page, has only done a documentary for Troma Studios (which, given the subject matter of Snuff, doesn't surprise me at all). But if I'm being honest, the book is cool and any friend of Troma is a friend of mine,...

After first seeing the indie adaptation of Choke with Sam Rockwell, we got on a Chuck Palahniuk frenzy a few years back, covering stories on various adaptations like Survivor or Lullaby, that still haven't taken off.
