Following a routine procedure for an enlarged prostate in January, tests concluded that King Charles III has cancer.
A statement released by the Palace on Feb. 5 read in part: “During the king’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”
It’s been more than a month since the monarch began his treatment and there is a tell-tale sign that things are going well with that.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday defended an exclusive deal his city-state struck with Taylor Swift that prevents the pop star taking her current Eras Tour to anywhere else in Southeast Asia.
Swift is performing six concerts from March 2 to 9 in Singapore under an exclusive deal that has been criticized by some Southeast Asian neighbors who complain they have been deprived of the tourist boom that her concerts have brought elsewhere.
Lee confirmed that Swift was provided with “certain incentives” from a government fund established to rebuild the tourism industry after Covid-19 disruptions to make Singapore her only Southeast Asian destination. He did not say how much the deal cost.
He said he did not regard the deal as unfriendly toward his neighbors in the 10-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Media and entertainment veteran Kim Williams is to be appointed the next chairperson of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the Australian federal prime minister Anthony Albanese’s office announced on Wednesday.
Williams takes over from the departing Ita Buttrose and will have a five-year mandate. He joins at a moment when the ABC is enduring a moment of editorial turbulence. The public broadcaster has recently been criticized for its coverage of the war in Palestine.
On Monday, union members passed a vote of no confidence in the ABC’s MD David Anderson “for failing to defend the integrity of the ABC and its staff from outside attacks.” The ABC’s Buttrose-headed board hit back on Tuesday with a unanimous vote of confidence in Anderson.

The White House has called off plans to have The B-52s perform during a state dinner tonight (October 25th) for Australia’s prime minister, The Associated Press reports.
“While we had initially planned for legendary B-52s to perform their iconic dance and party music, we are now in a time when so many are facing sorrow and pain, so we made a few adjustments to the entertainment portion of the evening,” first lady Jill Biden said in a statement. She did not directly reference the tragedies of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, or the fact that The B-52s share a name with a common Boeing bomber jet.
“Nurturing our partnerships and relationships with our allies is critically important, especially in these tumultuous times,” Biden continued. “Food is comforting, reassuring and healing, and we hope that this dinner provides a little of that as well.”

Update: John Leguizamo and his wife Justine were given choice spots at the White House State Dinner: At the president’s table, seated with figures including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Earlier, Leguizamo told a reporter that he “definitely” would be hitting the campaign trail for Joe Biden in 2024.
Asked about Biden’s outreach to Latino voters, Leguizamo said, “I think he’s doing the right things, which is getting Latin consulatns and talking to Latin experts who tell him how to address us, and make the effort. If you make the effort, we will be there, but you have to make the effort. I think he’s doing all that — him and Kamala Harris as well.”

In a last-minute itinerary change for the state dinner for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the White House decided to remove new wave band the B-52’s from the entertainment segment. The decision was made out of respect for those “facing sorrow and pain,” amid the Israel-Hamas war, First Lady Jill Biden stated on Tuesday, according to Associated Press. In place of the group, instrumental music was performed by the Marine band and the Army and Air Force Strolling Strings at today’s event.

White House Alters State Dinner Plans Due To World Crises; The B-52s Will No Longer Perform — Update
Update: First Lady Jill Biden said that The B-52s will no longer perform at the White House State Dinner on Wednesday, and that guests instead will listen to music from the “President’s Own” United States Marine Band and the Army and Air Force Strolling Strings.
The change — from the relentlessly upbeat B-52s to the more sedate instrumental music — was made given the multiple crises in the world, Biden said.
“While we had initially planned for legendary B-52s to perform their iconic dance and party music, we are now in a time when so many are facing sorrow and pain, so we made a few adjustments to the entertainment portion of the evening,” Jill Biden said.
The dinner will be for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and partner Jodie Haydon. Biden said that The B-52s will still attend the event.

London, July 4 (Ians) The contentious dismissal of Jonny Bairstow on final day of second Ashes Test at Lord’s has undeniably heightened the tensions between England and Australia, intensifying the already fiercely competitive atmosphere of the Ashes 2023 series.
Both the captains have already shared their opposing views on Bairstow’s dismissal. Stokes was sceptical about the whole incident and clarified that he wouldn’t have wanted to “win a game in that manner”.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins, on the other hand, offered an entirely contrasting view to his England counterpart, saying “It was totally fair play. That’s how the rule is.”
England coach Brendon McCullum was left frustrated by the incident and declared post-match that “he can’t imagine we’ll be having a beer any time soon” with the Australia players. Australia coach Andrew McDonald hit back, calling the comments ‘disappointing’.

“We want to embrace the diversity of talent and nominees this year, and we want to try to go back to the days of escapism,” an AMPAS source adds of the dual ethos of the 2023 Jimmy Kimmel hosted shindig. Escapism may be a hard sell with Netflix’s anti-war film All Quiet On The Western Front on the ballot for Best Picture and other categories, but the Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss produced broadcast is aiming to stay primarily politically agnostic and controversary free, we hear.

Hugh Jackman has stated his belief that it is “inevitable” Australia will become a republic in the future.
The actor shared his views while appearing on the BBC One politics programme Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.
“I think Australia will become Republican at some point. It feels natural,” he explained in the interview, set for broadcast on Sunday (19 February).
He continued: “It feels like something that is, I would guess inevitable, and I guess would be a natural part of an evolution of a country. You know?”
Jackman told Kuenssberg that he has both British and Australian citizenship and grew up in a household that revered the royal family.
“I’m a British citizen as I am an Australian citizen – I don’t know if people know that but I am,” he stated.
“My father made us stop doing whatever we could to watch, in 1981, the wedding of Lady Di and Prince Charles.

Sydney, Dec 2 (Ians) As a 1-0 triumph over Denmark sent the Socceroos into the last 16 of the Qatar FIFA World Cup, great joy has burst out across Australia, with more measures rolled out to fuel cheer for the team on its home soil.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, the Socceroos defeated Denmark 1-0 to clinch a spot in the final 16, marking the first time that the men’s team of Australia has made it to the knockout stage since 2006.
Regarding the result as “magnificent win,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese led the celebrations with a tweet shortly afterward, reports Xinhua.
Later in the day, Albanese also responded to calls for a public holiday to be declared.
“Too late to call a national holiday after the @Socceroos huge win against Denmark last night. But if we win the #FIFAWorldCup… that might be a different story,” the prime minister wrote on his social media.

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II has already gone down in history as a once-in-a-lifetime event, with huge praise reaped on both the organizers and the tireless broadcasters coordinating events and beaming them across the world. All except…
Two Australian commentators, Tracey Grimshaw and Peter Overton, working for the Channel Nine network were clearly caught on the hop as they were tasked with naming the high-profile arrivals at Westminster Abbey for the State Funeral service of Her Majesty.
Having announced the likes of US President Joe Biden, French premier Emmanuel Macron and other world dignitaries, they presumably thought their work was done, until a couple appeared out of their vehicle at the front of the Abbey and made their way inside.

Thousands gathered in the streets of London to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II at her funeral on Sept. 19. Among the mournful crowd were a few famous faces, including none other than "Grey's Anatomy" alum Sandra Oh, who followed behind the queen's casket as it was transported from the state funeral service at Westminster Abbey to St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle for a committal service. Surrounded by royal family members and world leaders, Oh's appearance at the funeral caught the internet off guard, but the "Princess Diaries" star had good reason to secure an invitation to the queen's funeral.

Rachel Griffiths will play the former prime minister – but what about the rest of the cast? Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Anthony Albanese? Eric Bana as Tim Mathieson?
Gillard is our Macbeth – her story is one in which all manner of plot lines converge – scheming and dreaming of power, the overthrow and murder of a King, the terrible consequences that follow - the blood that doesn't quite wash off the hands, the spectre of Banquo's ghost and the circle closing with the eventual murder of the murderer.
So when earlier this year I interviewed Rachel Griffiths for a magazine profile and asked what her dream role was, she didn't hesitate: Julia. It's a meaty part for one of our most acclaimed actors – and with a nasally accent, rusty bob and a white suit jacket, she'll look the part.
But who to play the players?
Kevin Rudd would be cast perfectly by Chris Lilley.
