With November Man out, excitement for Pierce Bosnan’s return to spying is at an all-time high for many James Bond fans. November Man, based on the seventh installment of Bill Granger’s book series called There Are No Spies, is about ex- CIA agent Peter Devereaux (Pierce Bosnan). While living a quiet life in Switzerland, Devereaux is ejected out of retirement for one last mission. Although the concept of the “one last mission/job” is not a new concept for Hollywood, it definitely has its place in cinema history, branching out to a wide range of reasons why our beloved characters are being pulled back into their past lives. From a retiree’s last gig, to the bad-boy-gone-good-and-then-bad-again mission, to the revenge premise, mythology of the ex-professional can surely delight and excite us to champion our heroes for one last fight. Here are scenes from ten incredible “one last job” films,...

Composer Marco Beltrami collaborated with director Phillip Noyce to set the tone for the big screen adaptation of The Giver, the beautifully ominous, suspenseful score for director Bong Joon Ho sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer, and Tommy Lee Jones’ Cannes-hit The Homesman.
Beltrami’s new films include the Tom Hardy/James Gandolfini film The Drop and director Roger Donaldson’s latest movie, The November Man, starring Pierce Brosnan, Olga Kurylenko, and Will Patton. Based on Bill Granger’s novel There Are No Spies, the seventh of a thirteen part book series, The November Man centers on an ex-cia operative pitted against his former pupil in a race to find a valuable witness who is hiding from the past, and holds the key to an international conspiracy. Sweet, Silly November: Donaldson’s Espionage Thriller is Overbaked
Starting out with a standard template of flourishes one can find in any number of garden variety spy thrillers, Roger Donaldson’s The November Man gets a lot of credit for being unexpectedly agile and energetic, generating mild tension as appropriate and even utilizing cast members more effectively than most B grade members of its species. But like a semi-talented juggler that takes on one ball too many, Donaldson’s film of furiously committed and concurrent clusters end up smashing into each other to concoct a rather silly and sallow end product. What’s unfortunate is that there are a couple likeable elements to the feature that make it entertaining to sit through, and one only has to compare this to Donaldson’s last film, the wretched Nicolas Cage headlined Seeking Justice, to be thankful for at least that.

Will a long weekend at the end of August prove to be a smart launching pad for “The November Man”? Relativity's action flick, featuring former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan as a retired CIA agent pressed back into duty, took home $833,000 on Thursday, its second day in theaters. That closely mirrors its Wednesday grosses of $861,000 in 2,774 theaters. What's that? Pierce Brosnan needs a new action franchise now, 12 years after his James Bond stint ended? There's a series of novels ripe for the action genre taking that would suit him perfectly? Let's make that deal. But The November Man, from the novels by Bill Granger, ends up being more than a run-of-the-mill spy thriller. Aided by some superb action directing from Roger Donaldson and a nice turn from its charismatic lead, the film trumps most of the recently standard "old guy in an action flick" turns we've gotten. Brosnan joins the ranks of Liam Neeson and Kevin Costner, and the former 007 prevails. Brosnan plays Peter Devereaux, a former CIA operative who has left his days taking out the bad guys for the good guys long behind him. He's enjoying a peaceful life by a lake in Switzerland when he's called back into the field. What begins as a...

The lackluster 2014 summer season comes to an end this Labor Day weekend with the release of the spy thriller November Man and the found-footage horror pic As Above/So Below. This holiday is always a slow one at theaters, and in all likelihood, Guardians of the Galaxy will once again claim the top spot to bid farewell to a season that is looking like it will net out at an eight-year low.
Here’s how things might play out.

The November Man is a nasty piece of work — the kind of movie where it’s not enough for a bad guy to get a sniper’s bullet through the brain in close-up; he also has to smash his head against the side of a boat as his lifeless body plummets to the water. (He’s on a boat.) Based on the late author Bill Granger’s popular series of Cold War–era espionage novels, this thriller, updated for our times and starring Pierce Brosnan as Granger’s CIA agent hero Bill Devereaux, is appropriately pulpy — fuss-free and fast. If it doesn’t transcend its genre origins, I suspect it’s because it doesn’t want to.The film opens with a scenario typical of movies like this: the job gone wrong. In this case, it’s a foiled assassination attempt in Montenegro in 2008, in which Devereaux’s protégé David Mason...

Twelve years. That's how long it's been since Pierce Brosnan last portrayed James Bond on the silver screen. That history, where he played the iconic British agent for four films, is what the producers of The November Man are hoping will draw you to their movie. Even the tag line, "A spy is never out of the game" is meant to convey the idea that "he's back!" Much of the promotional work for the film centers around "Look! It's Pierce Brosnan, back as a spy!" even though it has little to do with the movie. The idea that his character, Peter Devereaux, was ever "out" of the spy world and returns to it is barely emphasized in the actual film. It's clear this is all about Brosnan. And to really drive that point home, they even cast a former Bond Girl to run around with him through exotic locales.

The November Man, out Wednesday, stars Pierce Brosnan as former CIA agent Peter Devereaux, whose autumnal nickname acknowledges his tendency to leave few alive when he passes through a town. When the woman he once loved (and who secretly bore him a daughter) dies while spying in Moscow, he becomes the enemy of her killer — his old protege (Luke Bracey), whose bosses ordered the hit. Directed by Roger Donaldson and adapted from one in a series of Bill Granger novels, the film is getting a jump on the long Labor Day holiday by opening Wednesday, and is projected to make $12 million

Former 007 Pierce Brosnan is back in the spy game with "The November Man" - though as the actor himself admits, his decision to take on the role didn't come without reservations. "There was a certain trepidation," he said while sitting down with me to promote the new action film. "There was a certain reluctance and a fear maybe, of going back out there in the spy game. And I didn't want it to fail, you know? I had the Bond looming over me. The legacy of that, the memory of that. And I wasn't sure if we should tamper with what had been done." Still, the material - an adaptation of the seventh novel in Bill Granger's book series of the same name - ultimately won him over, and he admits that in some ways the film actually takes a page from the grittier Daniel Craig "Bond" films that followed.

The November Man, starring Pierce Brosnan, isn't out yet. But The November Man 2 is already happening...
Well here's some confidence for you. The first film only arrives in Us cinemas at the end of this month, but Relativity has already set the wheels in motion for a follow-up to The November Man. Based on the books by Bill Granger, Brosnan plays an ex-cia agent in an international world of espionage. Stop us if this sounds just a little familiar.
To be fair, Relativity are up front that The November Man mixes in elements of James Bond and Jason Bourne, and the fact that Roger Donaldson is directing (he gave us No Way Out and Thirteen Days in the past) is cause for a lot of optimism.
We seem to be past the mere announcing of a screenplay stage too, as Relativity is "entering pre-production" on The November Man 2 shortly. Here's...

We don.t know a ton about The November Man at the moment. We know that director Roger Donaldson.s action-thriller comes out next Friday, August 27, and that it stars Pierce Brosnan in an ass-kicking kind of role that he left behind when he bailed on the Bond franchise. But we.re willing to gamble on one thing regarding The November Man, sight unseen. It.s probably pretty damn good, because a sequel just got fast-tracked over at Relativity Studios. Coming Soon reports that Relativity will head into pre-production on The November Man 2 shortly after the initial film opens in theaters. The films are based on a popular series of spy novels penned by Bill Granger. GoodReads lists the 13 current titles in the series, meaning that if audiences devour Pierce Brosnan in The November Man later this month, and the initial sequel does equally well, Relativity can stay in the...

It wasn’t until this week that I became aware of The November Man, which opens as early as next Wednesday. Hey, it’s not like I write about movies for a living or anything. But outside of barely paying attention to a commercial for the Pierce Brosnan-led action thriller the other night, I still haven’t given it much thought. I also haven’t heard much buzz or anticipation for the movie, which is directed by Roger Donaldson (reunited with his Dante’s Peak star) and is about an ex-cia operative who has to take down his former protege while tiptoeing around a compromised agency. Should be interesting to see another evocation of Three Days of the Condor so soon after Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Yet unfortunately it looks more generic than that, like it’s following instead in the footsteps of another movie with the same number in the title: 3 Days to Kill...

This is most likely one of those press releases sent out merely as a way to give the current film a little additional publicity, but I guess there is a small, fraction of a chance Relativity thinks they may have their own Taken franchise in the form of The November Man, an upcoming release starring Pierce Brosnan. In the flick, due for an August 27 release, Brosnan plays an ex-cia agent, lured out of retirement to protect a valuable witness (Olga Kurylenko) only to learn the he is now the target of his former friend and CIA protege (Luke Bracey). The film, and it's supposed sequel, is based on Bill Granger's bestselling "November Man" book series. Directed by Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job), I have no question this film might be good, but when studios do this whole announcing the sequel before the first film is even released tactic. It reeks of desperation,...

Onetime 007 Pierce Brosnan embraces a darker take on spycraft in Roger Donaldson's The November Man, playing a former CIA agent whose autumnal nickname acknowledges his tendency to leave little alive when he passes through a town. A familiar string of dark secrets, shifting allegiances and (wo)man-who-knew-too-much pursuit propels the storyline (adapted from one in a series of Bill Granger novels), giving Brosnan the opportunity to prove his cool remains intact, sans tux and gadgets. Like a worrywart parent who fears that video games will turn their child into a sociopath, it’s conceivable that the higher-ups of intelligence agencies might have some concern over how the spy movie genre has influenced their incoming agents. Are they driven to pursue other careers when they find out that being an operative is more about eavesdropping than dropping bodies? Do they instinctively distrust the suits running ops from behind desks, particularly the ones who look like masculine character actors? And do they expect to eventually be betrayed by the organization and country they’ve sworn to serve, just as their silver screen idols always are? Sadly, The November Man, the latest bog standard entry in the spy thriller genre, won’t be changing any of these misconceptions, even if its star has a pedigree in espionage fiction that’s always been amongst the best.

"You know we use to call you? The November Man. Because after you passed through, nothing lived." After being James Bond for four films, Pierce Brosnan is back in action mode in The November Man. We've already seen a teaser trailer for the film, and now the theatrical trailer shows off even more of the action thriller. While the plot seems generic, there's still something about this that seems appealing. Maybe it's just having Brosnan in this kind of role again at an older age, not unlike Liam Neeson. The supporting characters leave something to be desired, but that doesn't seem like it's ruining anything all that much. Watch below! Pierce Brosnan is up this year for the entry in the older, action gentleman’s club, and the ex-Bond is a spy again. The November Man, if the trailer is to be believed, packs a lot of action into the story, and finds Peter Devereaux (Brosnan) sucked back into his life as a spy so that he can protect a witness. Naturally, part of the problem protecting her is that there may be a mole, and Devereaux doesn’t know who to trust.
This one hits on August 27th, and may be taking a chance there. Certain other movies with similarities to this one have proven they can perform well, but the tail end of summer competition might be fierce.
At any rate, I liked Brosnan as Bond, and he should be able to pull off a great turn here. I am getting a little bored of the generics of the plot synopsis,...

(Cbr) Even if he isn’t wearing tuxedos and drinking shaken-not-stirred martinis on the regular anymore, Pierce Brosnan remains firmly entrenched in the action world. The former James Bond star is front and center in a new spy thriller called "The November Man," based on the novel franchise of the same name written by Bill Granger. Brosnan stars as Peter Devereaux, a former CIA operative who returns to action to settle a score against a former protege. The movie also stars another Bond veteran, Olga Kurylenko, who appeared opposite Daniel Craig in "Quantum of Solace." Check out the "November Man" trailer above. "The November Man" hits theaters on Aug. 27.

If you are going to be a spy, there’s no better person to learn from than Mr. James Bond himself. More than a decade following his last outing as 007, Pierce Brosnan joins the spying world yet again in The November Man, albeit in an apparently more serious capacity.
Brosnan is Peter Devereaux, a CIA operative who teaches David Mason (Luke Bracey) how to be a proper spy. When Devereaux is brought back into the game, he finds himself pitted against his own protege on a deadly and personal mission. The November Man is based on the novel There Are No Spies, the seventh book in “The November Man” series by Bill Granger, with direction from Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job). It also stars former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and character actor Will Patton.

Though Pierce Brosnan may no longer go by the call sign 007, that doesn't mean his time as a spy is done. This time, Brosnan is an ex-cia agent, codenamed The November Man, brought back from retirement for one last mission, protecting a valuable witness (Olga Kurylenko), a former Bond girl coincidentally enough) and training a less experienced agent on the rise (Luke Bracey). This looks like a pretty solid and dramatic little action thriller based on this first teaser trailer, and it just might kick off a bit of a resurgence for the once thriving Brosnan who hasn't really been at the top of his game lately. Watch the trailer below! Relativity has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for "November Man," directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Brosnan, Olga Kurylenko, and Luke Bracey. Donaldson has a good working relationship with Relativity, as they distributed his 2008 Jason Statham-led hit "The Bank Job." Also interesting about this pairing is the fact that the cast includes an ex-Bond and ex-Bond Girl. The thriller is adapted from the Bill Granger novel, "There Are No Spies," in which a former CIA operative, who gets back into the game for a personal mission, finds himself pitted against his former protege in a plot that involves high-level CIA officials, and the Russian President-elect. Relativity has committed to a wide release sometime later this year. Written by Michael Finch and Karl Gajdusek, the film is produced by Brosnan's Irish DreamTime and Sriram Das of Das Films, in association with The Solution Entertainment Group, Merced Media Partners, and Palmstar Media Capital.

Legendary Bond actor Pierce Brosnan will soon be returning to the world of action-thrillers, taking the lead in Roger Donaldson’s November Man later this year.
The film has been a long-time passion project for Brosnan, and it’s nice to see he was finally able to get what he’s referred to as a ‘labour of love’ off the ground and shortly into cinemas. And now a fiery first look at Brosnan’s ex-cia agent, Peter Devereaux, has landed online.

Here’s your first look at “The Bank Job” director Roger Donaldson’s latest, the spy thriller “November Man” starring a guy who knows a thing or two about playing spies, Pierce Brosnan. You might have heard of him. He used to have a license to drive. Er, fly. Well, it was a license to do something, I know that much. Something very, very deadly. Take a gander at the first image from “November Man” above, take a ganderers. An ex-cia operative is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect. Starring Pierce Brosnan, Luke Bracey, Olga Kurylenko, Will Patton, Bill Smitrovich, and Eliza Taylor. Blowing up this 2014. The movie is based on the book of the same name by Bill Granger:...

Based on the novels by Bill Granger, Roger Donaldson directs Pierce Brosnan in November Man and the first picture has just arrived from the spy thriller as Solution Entertainment Group is selling international rights to the film at the European Film Market. Co-starring Luke Bracey and Olga Kurylenko, the film centers on Brosnan, playing an ex-cia operative brought back in on a very personal mission, finding himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect. Donaldson has directed The Recruit and The Bank Job and I would expect November Man to fit somewhere right in the middle of that bunch considering The Bank Job is a highly underrated feature you should check out if you can.

Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan has had a relatively steady career since handing over the keys to the 007 role to Daniel Craig, but hasn't attempted to relive those days in other films...until now. In November Man, Brosnan plays Peter Devereaux, an ex-cia operative made famous in a series of books by late author Bill Granger. Joining Brosnan in the film adaptation is fellow Bond alum Olga Kuryleno, Will Patton, and Luke Bracey with veteran director Roger Donaldson (No Way Out, The...
